Minecraft Ash Storms in the Nether

Minecraft Ash Storms in the Nether

    Ash Storms in the Nether

    Posted: 22 Feb 2019 09:35 AM PST

The Nether is the mid-game destination for survival players and a literally hellish dimension filled to the brim with lava. For all the hype surrounding it, however, it is largely empty and forgotten - lifeless in a bad way. Maybe adding random events / weather in the Nether would make it seem more alive and organic.

I suggest that Ash Storms take place rarely in the Nether, with a graphic similar to Overworld snow but obviously
ash-like in appearance. The particles could either render everywhere, or be dependant on height, ex. around y=30 and y=100, to reduce lag.

    During Ash Storms:

    • Wither Skeleton spawns increase slightly to encourage players to grind / search for fortresses.
    • Wither Bosses spawned in the Nether have +50 additional HP. This is not unbalanced as the player can chose whether to spawn / fight them there or during an Ash Storm in the first place. Spawning and killing the Wither in the Nether during an Ash Storm grands the player an achievement [example name: "On Hostile Grounds" or something like that]

Scorpion to replace spiders in desert

    Posted: 21 Feb 2019 08:28 PM PST

It just makes sense, husks are basically zombies spawning in the desert so they've done similar before. Make the scorpion apply some poison effect, likely a decent duration of poison 1 or a short duration of poison 2. Slightly more health than spiders so we can maybe see band of Arthropods be used a bit more since these could be considered challenging threats. These wouldn't drop string of course, but I feel should drop a new item labeled scorpion tail which can be used as a weapon to deal poison effect with minimal base damage and low attack speed. Or be brewed into a poison 3 potion. Just a neat little way to spice up desert life again while maybe giving bane of arthropods another use.

Redstone Ore Should Output Redstone Signal when Updated

    Posted: 22 Feb 2019 03:34 AM PST

When you step on redstone ore it lights up as if activated. This also happens when clicked or on block update. I believe it should output a redstone signal in all directions like a redstone block maybe with lesser distance like 5 blocks instead of 15.

It would actually be useful in redstone networks and make sense visually.

Add Nautilus to minecraft and add sea shells to beaches

    Posted: 22 Feb 2019 12:39 PM PST

Sure we have the nautilus shell but I think adding the mob would be really cool. The Nautilus could spawn in deep cold ocean biomes or deep warm ocean biomes. Or even spawn near the location of a under water temple so it would make it that if the play sees a nautilus that means there very close to the temple. The nautilus would a passive mob and mostly stay away from the player or mobs but they will begin to tryst the player the more time the player remains in the water. When threaten like squids the nautilus would spray a cloud of black ink particles and swim away. When killed the nautilus would drop the nautilus shell and a ink sac. If we have the nautilus shell in the game why don't have more? An idea is to add shells to beaches and make the nautilus shell a place able item. Shells would spawn on all beach biomes they would be mostly used for decoration with a rare chance of a nautilus shell spawning on the beach. I know it's not much and that the idea may have been suggested already but I do hope that they add these features to mine-craft one day.

    Fireworks crafting table

    Posted: 22 Feb 2019 11:39 AM PST

Add a fireworks crafting table. Seeing as a lot of crafting table variations are coming in 1.14, and the fact that fireworks and firework stars are very annoying to make in the regular crafting table, a fireworks dedicated crafting table would be very helpful.

Its recipe would be two wood on the bottom, one paper on top, and one gunpowder next to it.

Its UI would be similar to that of the loom, with one input slot for the gunpowder, two for the dye (one for primary color, the other for the fade color), a section to select the firework's shape with a slot to add the necessary item for the shape, and a section for the additional effects with two slots to add the diamond and/or the glowstone. There will be two output slots, one for the firework star, and one for the firework with an additional input slot for the paper.

    Tell me what you think.

Hex Color Customization/Transparency Customization Support for Potions

    Posted: 22 Feb 2019 03:44 PM PST

Mapmakers would certainly use this ability if they had it. We can customize potions effects and names and lore, but have to use the textures that exist to pick a color. I assume it would be rather easy to add that to the game. I've seen the way they've separated the potion textures up in the latest snapshot, so if we're messing with it already and adding the dye-able leather horse armor, why not allow the customization of the color of the potion? Also, if the transparency was editable- either on a percentage out of 100 spectrum or even a 0-5 value index- that would give the map-making brewer even more customizing power. This way if you want chocolate milk, a brown potion with no transparency, blood, a dark red potion with low transparency, or the Elixir Of Shadows, which I can only imagine is pitch black #000000 hex value with a higher level of transparency, you can make it.

This whole thing seems on par with the customization power that Mojang seems to be okay with mapmakers having these days, I'm not sure. Would be cool either way, please up-vote!

P.S.- If they're feeling spicy, they could make it a bit harder on themselves and let the swirly particle effects match the color of the potion. Harder to do and weirder to make work, but hey!

The hitbox for the Lectern just looks wrong

    Posted: 22 Feb 2019 10:54 AM PST

The lectern has the weirdest outline on its top. Why? If they can make the block model have a diagonal shape, why can't the hitbox have one?

If it's some sort of technical limitation with just hitboxes, then I understand, but it just looks kinda jarring.. Maybe they'll have to redo how hitboxes render in order to fix it, but that isn't such a bad thing, since any future models with diagonal sections can benefit from that!

    Reptiles in Minecraft!

    Posted: 22 Feb 2019 04:05 PM PST

Minecraft definitely needs something to make environments more natural without messing it up very much. And what better way than reptiles?

Here are how some of them could work:

    Desert Snakes

Desert snakes are small, orange and brown snakes that spawn in desert and mesa biomes. They are neutral mobs and will only attack the player if you stay within 3 blocks of them for more than 30 seconds or are directly looked at for more than 5 seconds. They have a rattle at the end of their tail that shakes if you are within 3 blocks of them for more than 10 seconds. Their bites will give you poison for 3 seconds. When killed, they drop a venomous fang or a rattle. Rattles can be brewed to make potions of fear, which make all mobs avoid you for 30 seconds. Fangs can be brewed to make potions of harming.

    Jungle Snakes

Jungle snakes are also neutral mobs, but will prefer to avoid the player. They have a shiny lime coloration and will spawn in jungle biomes. They can walk on top of leaf blocks but will move through them if they go in front of them. They can climb all wood blocks by spiraling around them. When attacked, they will spit venom at you that causes poison for 3 seconds. When killed, they drop a venomous fang.

    Jungle Lizards

Jungle lizards also spawn in jungle biomes but are passive mobs. They spawn with either gray, red, orange, or yellow scale colors. They make clicking sounds and can climb any surface at any angle. They prefer to be on vertical surfaces or branches. There is a 10% chance that they will drop a lizard eye when killed, which can be brewed into a potion of night vision.

    Savannah Lizards

Savannah lizards are large neautral mobs that spawn in savannah and plains biomes. They have a beige coloring and black spots on their back. Savannah lizards will only attack you if you attack them. They are usually slow but can run extremly fast on their hind legs to hunt rabbits, chickens, pigs, and sheep. Savannah lizard eggs rarely spawn in dirt burrows and can be harvested with pickaxes with silk touch. Eggs that are harvested and replaced will hatch as babies, but are smaller than babies that hatched from uncollected eggs. They will eventually grow into adults (again, smaller than wild variations), and will attack each other if they are within 5 blocks of each other. Savannah lizards that are "domesticated" will be able to be put on leads and will not attack the player even if they hit it. They will also eat meat that is dropped on the ground. When killed, there is a 5% chance of them dropping a lizards tail, which can be brewed into a potion of swiftness. Savannah lizards cannot be bred, and eggs can only be claimed from burrows.

    Toads

The final mob I had in mind was toads. Toads are peaceful mobs that spawn in jungle and swamp biomes. They bury themselves into dirt blocks and will usually stay there for a while. When they get out, they hop around and sometimes swim. In the water, they will either sit at the bottom of the water or slowly swim around in bursts of movement. There is a 5% that they drop a toad leg when killed. Toad legs can be brewed into potions of leaping.

That's all I had in mind, let me know what you think!

When on Peaceful or Easy Mode on a single player World, The game in the background will slow down when the player has their inventory menu open

    Posted: 22 Feb 2019 04:03 PM PST

Doing this would allow player's who struggle with the game allow for them to react quickly by allowing them a window of time to organize their inventory or equip any armor that may have been destroyed in the process of combat. This could also be useful in beginner situations like

    - Burning in lava to slow down the burn damage to by the player some time to move a bucket of water to their hot bar

    - Replacing your Broken Elytra when in mid flight

    - Placing a totem of Undying into your offhand before dying

    - Make Organizing your inventory more calming when in an unsafe location

    - Buy yourself some time before running into a fight you might not be Prepared for

    - Slow down your pet's death by opening your inventory to retrieve an item to save them

    Add Wards in minecraft

    Posted: 22 Feb 2019 05:37 AM PST

We should have wards that add glowing status effect in large area to the mobs that have that certain item that they drop. (example: creepers drop gunpowder so using gunpowder with wards would make wards add glowing status effect to creepers only).

    Sailing Ships:

    Posted: 21 Feb 2019 05:05 PM PST

Basically the ship model for shipwrecks, except it always spawns upright and has lanterns for lighting. It also spawns as part of the docks for coastal villages.

It can be populated by either villagers or illagers. Those with villagers will also spawn wandering traders, to represent merchants. Those with illagers can spawn vindicators, pillagers, and maybe either a witch or evoker.

    Why?

Oceans are usually empty and monotonous, especially near the surface. Players traveling long distances over the ocean, such as for ocean monuments and mushroom islands, will be able to encounter these to break the monotony and provide interesting encounters.

Players seeking the wandering trader will have a more proactive way of finding them.

Lastly, they would add a unique structure to villages.

Decrafting magma blocks into magma cream

    Posted: 21 Feb 2019 07:59 PM PST

I believe that magma cream is a pain to get (at least for me). Magma cubes themselves are pretty rare, and magma cream only has a chance to spawn from large or medium cubes. Blocks of magma are uncommon in the Nether, but not really a hassle to find. You can already craft 4 creams into one block, and I think it would be cool if you could have the inverse happen. A single magma block could be decrafted into 4 magma cream. The functionality of this feature is in place (I.e. diamond, gold, and iron blocks), so it would only make sense. I know there's the Uncrafting Table in the Twilight Forest Mod, but it would be nice to have this feature in vanilla Minecraft. Just spitballing an idea.

    Advanced Item Transport

    Posted: 22 Feb 2019 12:46 AM PST

I would like Minecraft to give players more advanced tools for item transport and more reasons to use them. This concept is represented by a collection of other ideas below.

An item transport system should be able to do 5 things and currently we can do these things with the tools available:

    • Input using a Hopper.
    • Output using a Hopper or Dropper.
    • Filter using hoppers and a circuit.
    • Split using a double chest, hoppers and a minecart track or circuit.
    • Transport using water streams, minecarts or a hopper chain.

These systems all work fine however there are a number of flaws:

    • They are bulky.
    • They require a lot of resources.
    • They are over dependent on hoppers, which are fragile and difficult to input redstone into.

Also in vanilla minecraft, item transport systems are only used for 1 or 2 things: storage or automatic furnaces. Brewing stands are also hopperable but most players don't know this because it is not intuitive. I think we can do better than that. I would like to expand on the concept of item transport with more specific and advanced tools and more intuitive reasons to use them.

Reasons to use item transport systems include any block that requires a specific set of items in or around it or any system that drops items to the ground. The delineation of Smokers and Blast Furnaces is a good step in this direction. Below is a list of ideas for encouraging the use of more advanced item transport systems:

    • Automatic Stone Cutters: The stone cutter looks automatic (with a constantly spinning blade like a trap!) It currently reduces the material cost of crafting stairs. I think output items should require a period of time to craft, like a furnace. The crafting should be automatic after selecting an output type in the GUI. Importantly both input and output should be hopperable.
    • Better Dispensers: Dispensers can shear sheep now - that's pretty advanced. Why can't they plant seeds? Why can't they hoe soil? Why can't they fill cauldrons? Why can't they fill bottles? You get the idea..
    • Redstone Spike: A spike that extends and retracts like a piston to create traps for players and mobs or harvest stone pickaxe tier blocks. Harvesting blocks should require an alternating redstone current and take time equivalent to a stone pickaxe. The item would drop to the floor in front of the spike. A similar idea can be seen here: Minecraft redstone spikes.
    • Stone Grinder: Grinds up stone-like blocks into gravel or sand. Has a small chance to spit out an iron nugget, flint or a gold nugget. These bonus items should be dropped to the ground in front. The interface would have an input for stone, sandstone or granite-like blocks and an output slot for sand or gravel. Other input blocks or a full output slot will stop the grinder from working. You may only get a few nuggets per stack of stone so a constant flow of items is necessary. I believe it should be powered by alternating redstone rather than coal. A similar idea can be seen here: Block Grinder.

Advanced transport tools should compliment existing tools rather than replace them. Below is a list of ideas for advanced item transport tools:

    • Item Comparator: Used to check how many multiples of a specific item set are in a container. Outputs one block of redstone power for each multiple up to 15. This can be used to make filter splitters (So advanced ~ wow!) and it performs a function which is pretty much impossible with the current tools.
    • Filter Hopper: Crafted using a comparator and hopper, it acts like a normal hopper with 2 slots: a filter slot and another slot. Whatever item is in the filter slot determines which items are allowed to enter the other slot.
The Filter Hopper is not intended to replace the current implementation for the following reason: An empty filter slot means the other slot does not accept items. Powering it will output the item from the filter slot, making it empty. An item input from the side while the filter slot is empty and not powered will go into the filter slot instead of the output slot, thus changing the filter can be automatic.
A similar idea can be seen here: Item Filter.
    • Multiple Item Dispenser: Dumps items downwards, automatically and silently when powered without the need for a redstone clock.
    • One Way Transport Pipes: They take input from hoppers or pipes facing them and output to other inventories. They only travel in 1 direction, so can have multiple inputs but only 1 output. They should face opposite to the direction the player is facing when they are placed and have a visual indicator to show their direction. The recipe should be cheaper than a hopper. A similar idea is Pipes in Minecraft.

Important: Please only discuss the concept of "Advanced Item Transport" on this page. This is already kind of breaking the rule for multiple suggestions and the FPS list so please go to the linked pages if you would like to discuss those specific ideas.
