[Brainstorm] Top Monthly Suggestions For January 2020! This Month's Theme is "Enchanting"!

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 01:43 PM PST

Your monthly reminder that yes, there are suggestions that do get over 100 upvotes from the Minecraft Community. Truly crazy, innit?

In this post are showcased all the suggestions for the past month that have achieved an upvote notoriety beyond 100, as well as the 10 closest stragglers that were just shy of making the choice 3-digit beauty mark.

Ha HA! You thought we forgot again, did ya? Nope! Not this time. We promised that this TMS report will be out on time, and by-golly-gosh it is. We fought through a mess of posts, the bot screwing up the TMS post catalog, and busy time schedules, but here it is, first day of February as promised. :)

Looks like everyone's heads are safe.

    This time... (rubs hands evilly)

SO, without further ado, let's take a look at January, shall we? We have a slight dip in quantity, with 77 suggestions that broke the 100+ mark. Still, a very good month overall. 7 of those made it past 200+ upvotes (Super Luminous!), 8 reaching 300+ (Enlightened!), 5 reaching 400+ (Ascended!), 18 reaching 500+ (Legendary!), 8 reaching 600+ (Mythic!), 6 reaching 700+ (Godlike!), 8 reaching 800+ (Omnipotent!), 2 reaching beyond our normal naming conventions, with 1 reaching 900+ and 1 reaching 1000+.

Special congratulations go to /u/Martijndebakker for being MVP for the month of January thanks to his 1000+ post. Great work! :D

Alright, now normally we'd have in this section the different flairs for each of the posts that made it into the TMS, but unfortunately the bot messed up the flairs this time and it would've taken hours to go through each and every post to count up the flairs. So, instead, we'll forgo it just this once and just post what you all came here to see anyway: the ideas themselves.

    THEME: Enchanting!

This month's brainstorming theme is...enchanting! Enchanting has been in the game for a while, with plenty of room for new suggestions, whether tweaking the system or adding new enchantments or curses. There's plenty to go around for suggestions! Please give any ideas, big or small, that can be used to improve enchanting or enchantments. Have fun!

    IN OTHER NEWS:

Another slow month for news, guys. But hey, no news is good news, am I right?

    ...Right.

Anyway, here's your monthly reminder to please read the FPS list before making an idea, just to be sure your idea isn't already on there.

    Carry on, suggesters!

<>If there was a suggestion that was missed, please let us know below. Despite our best efforts, we haven't yet reached infallible perfection just yet (we're still trying, impossible as it might be), so some mistakes are still within the realm of possibility.<>

    Honorable 10 Suggestions:

<> All Monthly Suggestion Posts are cataloged on the subreddit's TMS Catalog Wikipage.<>

Note: The comments are not for posing ideas unless they pertain to the feedback theme. If an idea crops up in a discussion, then that's fine, but for posting a suggestion for the community and the developers, that is what the "submit" button at the top right is for.

Also also, you can see some suggestions that have actually been implemented on the Successful Suggestions Wikipage! Maybe one of these will make it on there someday! If you have a suggestion that actually has been implemented in some form or another, please let us know so that we can update the list. Thanks!

Until next time folks, have a fantastic day/night, and take care! :D

    Jungle Island

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 02:12 AM PST

Jungle islands are uninhabited islands. The mobs that spawn will be only parrots & ocelots.

These islands are very rare and can only spawn in the middle of any kind of ocean biome with no land in a 300 x 300 block radius.

Jungle islands will have most of a jungle's properties, except it will never be a bamboo jungle, nor jungle temples will spawn in it. It can have a secret buried treasure.

Instead, it will have a new structure, called the shack. It's a small (5x5x3) structure that is built only out of jungle wood & a jungle door, with jungle trapdoors as windows. It have a bed, a crafting table, a chest, a torch, and an extinguished campfire outside. The chest contains several fishes, wood planks, rotten fleshes, and occasionally golden apples and valuable minerals, such as diamonds, gold ingots, or emeralds. There will never always be an enchanted golden apple. It can also have a skeleton skull, indicating the person inhabited it before has already died.

The island will never be displayed in a map to suggest that the land was never found.

It counts as a jungle biome variant.

EDIT: Almost as rare as a mushroom island.

A Player's Use for Smithing Table

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 05:07 AM PST

The suggestion: With the Smithing Table, you can now craft Iron and Gold tools, as well as blocks and items that use Iron and Gold Ingots, such as Rails. For each ingot that is used to craft these items, you get a nugget back from it.

Example: You craft an Iron Sword, you get 2 Iron Nuggets back from it. Craft an Iron Door, get 6 Iron Nuggets back from it. Craft some Powered Rails, get 6 Gold Nuggets back from it.

You will be able to craft Blocks of Iron or Gold via the Smithing Table, but you will not get any nugget bonuses from it. You will also be able to craft them back into ingots.

Crafting Anvils will give you 4 Iron Nuggets and 3 Iron Ingots from the Iron Blocks.

Given that a Smithing Table already requires 2 Iron Ingots to craft, I feel like a newer player would have to decide whether they want to spend their Iron on tools or a Smithing Table.

You would probably be able to add an Advancement/Achievement/Trophy for crafting a Smithing Table via a Smithing Table, just for the hell of it.

This feature would add an option to save just a little bit of Iron and/or Gold each time you craft with it. Although it's really not much, it can potentially add up to save a lot in the long run.

Here's a sort of mockup of how I imagine the UI to look. Made by me in GIMP.

    Leather based iron armour

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 04:03 PM PST

Leather armour serves no decent use in Minecraft anymore apart from aesthetics. It takes longer to get and is much worse.

My idea is to make iron and diamond armour require leather armour as a base. Any iron/diamond armour piece should require a leather piece to be crafted.

Not only will this make getting leather armour first make sense, but it could also have extra benefits.

For example, enchanted leather armour passes on it's enchant to the armour you craft with it. Not only would this mean you could make more use of enchanted leather armour you find, it also means you could enchant leather armour in an enchantment table until you get the enchantment you want, and then craft your final armour with it. With a cow farm mid-game this will mean not wasting iron/diamonds.

If you have dyed leather amour that could translate in some way to the iron/diamond armour you have. Of course iron and diamond armour still need to look like iron and diamond, but they could have some kind of colour on them based on the dye.

It's also quite realistic, which makes it make more sense IMO.

If you like this idea please up-vote it on Minecraft Feedback here!

Melons and Pumpkins should have a growing phase

Melons and Pumpkins should have a growing phase from being a different color and smaller in the first and looking more like Pumpkins and Melons in the later phases.

    Drums

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 03:40 PM PST

Simple idea for a new tool and block in the game the drum. When used by the player the drum draws the attention of near by golems causing them to follow you so long as you are using it, though Iron Golems will not travel far from villages and Snow Golem will not follow you dry/warm biomes unless they have the Fire Resistance effect.

When placed down as a block it loses this use, but could be used to attract Zombies, this idea came to me with how zombies are often attracted to sound in fiction. The block could also be hooked up to redstone circuit. Naturally like all blocks it can also be used for decoration and during the day villages; especially baby villages, can be seen playing with it.

I think it would make sense to make them with planks/sticks and rabbit hide (I feel that it could use another use.).

    Item Hotbar (Nintendo Switch)

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 12:50 AM PST

The touch feature on Nintendo Switch is really useful for the inventory system, its quicker and you can free up buttons for other uses.

An option to move the hotbar to be vertical along either the left or right side of the screen would make it easier and much faster to change items in the hot bar, therefore not needing to use 2 buttons to cycle all the way through. Allowing you to select an item with your thumb.

    More unique items

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 11:05 AM PST

Minecraft items are terribly boring, you can almost the same items everywhere and almost every item that you use in the end game is obtained trough mining and enchanting so here you have some of my ideas for more unique items: (items are uncraftable unless specified) FROM DESERT TEMPLES My main inspiration for this items was the egypt -gold mask: can be used as an helmet (grants the same protection as a gold helmet but it's unbreakable and has a cool texture) or placed (would work similar to a head and look like an Egyptian funeral mask) -flint knife: deals the damage of an iron sword but comes with smite III and has the same durability as a stone sword -papyrus: looks similar to paper but more yellow-ish, works like a book and quill but with only one page and a texture similar to the one of the maps FROM JUNGLE TEMPLES -bamboo whistle: has the durability of a gold item, every time that you use it the mobs in a 5x5 radius will run away from you for 2/3 seconds -Totem head: probably only decorative item, could reduce the spawn rate/light needed of mobs in a small area when placed FROM SUNKEN SHIPS We already have hearts of the sea here so I don't think that we need a lot of unique items -pirate coins: big golden coins, can be traded with cartographer(?) villagers for 5/10 diamonds FROM WANDERER TRADERS Wanderer villagers are useless now, let's give them some unique stuff to sell! -unique enchantment: I didn't want to have enchantments in this suggestion but I feel like wanderer traders would really benefit from some useful stuff so: light step, an enchantment for boots that reduce the food needed for sprinting, not compatible with feather falling (max level 3) -paintings: not like the classic paintings, paintings with exclusive images of minecraft biomes and mobs -ice boots: (maybe also found in igloos idk), same durability as the iron boots and protection as leather boots, when on ice you don't use stamina and you get speed II FROM NETHER FORTRESS -nether amulet: works like the totem of undying but it activates when you catch on fire and it give you fire protection for 5 minutes along with regen and health boost

That's everything that I could think of, if you have some ideas/don't agree with my ideas let me know!

Elytra With Curse of Binding Allows Temporary Flight

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 04:53 PM PST

Physically the only reason you can't flap your wings (elytra) from a real world stand point is that they're not connected to your muscle to be able to move them. So it would obviously make sense that if they WERE connected to you permanently they'd be a physical part of the player so that you could temporarily fly and get height, a bit similar to how wings work in Terraria.

Obviously this would seem overpowered at first, as well as the fact that you could just use fireworks to get height, however they'd be permanently attached to where the most important armor piece goes so that would be the trade off for getting temporary flight (being unguarded) and allows you to be sparse with fireworks assuming you don't have an overpowered creeper farm.

But then what about them depleting and not being able to take them off? Well there could be a few solutions, one could be that instead of curse of binding it's a new enchantment called Flapping that only allows you to take them off when completely depleted as well as a 5 heart damage penalty (these are connected to your back, after all) or perhaps the mending enchantment must be on the elytra first in order to enchant them with Curse of Binding.

    A Change to Smite

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 04:22 PM PST

In Minecraft, the enchantment "Smite" is infamously bad... this makes sense, Smite does the same thing as Sharpness, although it only works on undead mobs, albeit more damage than sharpness. Though Smite on paper doesn't seem totally useless, in my opinion, it is, I've never tried to get it on my sword.

This is where my change comes in, let's look at the definition of Smite

    1. LITERARY strike with a firm blow. "he smites the water with his sword" This definition, though interestingly close to what sharpness does, is not what I'm looking for, let's now look to the second definition

    • 2. be strongly attracted to someone or something. "she was so smitten with the boy"* Now, this definition could give us an entirely different enchantment with the same name, here's what it would do

Smite, an enchantment applied to shears because it deals with livestock, has one level. When applied, hitting any mob capable of breeding, the mob will start to search for a mate. This will obviously damage the mob, and deal 2 points of durability to the shears. If the affected mob breeds with another mob, it will not give you any XP like it would if you do it the normal way. After being hit, if the mob is within radius of another mob of its type, it will not go into panic mode. This would only be useful in combat if you were fighting a zombie jockey, or a Hoglin.

I feel like this might be better as it's own enchantment, but Smite is also pretty useless, so what do you think?

    new dimension: mining fields

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 04:12 PM PST

this time, i actually looked at the rejected iideas which werent in the rules, even though on 99% of the other subs, they are (got a new suggestion!). either way, the mining dimension dosent include brdrock breaking or mining helmets, because theyll make things too easy, i guess. but the caves will still get harder as you go on, as its a mining dimension and will also be time-based (the surface is like the overworld basically but covered in mostly stone), and mining rules will be as shown accordingly:

coal- anywhere, but more common when p<400

iron- similer to coal, but only spawns when p<400 and more common when p<300, mostly replaced at p<100 by other stuff but still exists

gold- rare, but once the dimension is accessed, its probably highly valued as its the main component in powered rails, which are exceptionally useful in the nether. spawns when p<150, more so when p<100

redstone- same as gold, but 2x more common

diamond- once the dimension is found, diamonds are obselete, as all diamond items likely have been acquired with mending, but still is good to mine. spawns when p<85, more when p<50, and back to normal when p<20

emerald- since this is a mining dimension and every part of the dinension is biomeless, emeralds wouldnt spawn normally. however, they still spawn 4x more common than diamonds in veins of 1 (like normal emeralds) when p<170.

nether quartz- this isnt the nether, so theres no nether quartz, obviously, instead pure quartz generates (a new ore)

    new ores—————

pure quartz- generates in large veins with a similer texture to nether quartz, but suited to this dimension. functions identically for mechanisms and can be used as an alternative, but the block (crystal quartz block), is seethrough. generates when p<250.

XP ore- drops absolutly nothing except for some XP. the deeper you go, the more that drops, with a base of 10 when p<500 (the highest it generates), and every 25 blocks down, 1 XP is added. can be mined with silk touch. due to a lack of drop otherwise, it cannot be smelted.

stalagemites/stalagetites- can generate on any stone block in the dinension, but only upon world creation, and are not renewable. they can be broken with a pickaxe (obviously), and look like stone sort of. stalagetites (i think) can fall onto the player if there is no block supporting it doing 6 damage and are not affected in any way by pistons or sticky pistons. they will simply fall if they are stalagetites, or prevent the piston from moving if they are stalagemites. stalagetites dont do any damage on the sides, but steppong on the top will do 3 damage and can effectively be used as a trap.

the dimension can be accsessed by finding 10 hardened stones which are extremly rare blcos found deep upderground, and making them into a nether portal shape. it requires a diamond charge to ignite, made from 8 diamonds and a flint and steel.

also the dimension is 700 blocks tall

    The Netherwart Forest Grey

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 03:18 PM PST

The Netherwart forest "wither" or grey is a biome that i came up with for the nether update.

This biome would have a dark ambience and monochrome-like feel or something like those images , but with some dark red and orange included :forest 1 , and more , anyway those kind of feelings and ambience while going inside the forest .But i must get in more details:

    netherwart'' trees'':

the'' trees'' in this biome would have a geometric appearance , something kind of resembling forks or chorus trees or real life tree-like corals or flowers. but rather that chorus stems they would consist of a new block : the white nether wart block ,

with the stems itself being a : dark grey block with bright white vines or cracks ( similar to the other nether stems) . On top of each or one of the trunk pillar ( or white nether wart block on top of the trunk) is the new light block , that also appear on top of the other nether trees in the red and blue biomes , to give off light to the biome but it can't be seen very well due the white netherwart block branches/leaves obscuring the block itself. Its basically located on the inside center of the tree.

As for the rest of the vegetation there is:

nether grass: a dark grey or black grass on top of netherack.

nether fungi: grass-like fungi with a gradient ( starting black on the ground until becoming white on the top ).

white mushroom: a mushroom like the other nether mushrooms but white and basically resembling a fork or crowd in the texture top white a yellow spot on the center .

    overall theme:

the biome have a black fog ,with white sideways particles floating around .In fact sideways is a major thing in this biome , the fungi and mushrooms from this biome can be placed sideways and some nether trees can be oriented sideways resembling sharp hands or claws forming archs , some short some long.

Being sidewaystheme is a middle ground between the upward theme in nether forest red and the downward theme in nether forest blue.

but overall that's my idea ,did you liked or not , any suggestions , please say in the comments.

If you can help visualize this idea( because i pretty poor on this) please go ahead and if you want reply to me.

    Thanks for reading

    Honey And Slime Chestplate

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 02:57 PM PST

They are crafted using slimeballs or honeycomb. They are the same protection level and durability level as a chain chestplate. They make it so the player wearing it always has the effect of the side of a Honey block where the player slowly slides along the side of the block.

Day-Burning mobs with the Dinnerbone tag have to be wearing boots to not burn

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 08:49 AM PST

The Dinnerbone tag is an Easter egg where any mob nametagged "Dinnerbone" flips upside down. Well for mobs that burn in daylight, they have to wear helmets to not burn. But if they're upside down then that doesn't make sense. Hence, if they are named Dinnerbone and they are a mob that burns in daylight, they need to be wearing boots instead.

    More types of shields

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 01:43 PM PST

Shield is a pretty op thing, lets face it. Shields are very strong but dont need a nerf, because we need something to block attacks like this but are too easy to get(only 1 iron and some wood), so I am suggesting more variants and some changes.

Iron shield Looks like the current shield, when used slows you down, blocks 80% of incoming damage, medium durability Can't block splash potions, explosions Can block melee attacks, projectiles

Gold shield Is round shaped and small, when used slows you down but you almost wont notice, blocks 50% of incoming damage, has very low durability Can only block melee attacks

Diamond shield Heavy siege shield, shapes like a riot shield, slows you by 80%, blocks 100% of incoming damage, high durability, takes 2 second(it is a lot) to rise or lower Can block melee attacks, projectiles, explosions, splash potions

Polar bears should have a chance of having twins.

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 08:36 AM PST

In the real world polar bears most commonly have twins, this is to increase the chances of at least one of the mothers polar bear cubs growing up in the harsh conditions of their habitat. While Minecraft polar bears generally don't have to face this harsh weather in minecrafts snow biomes, I think it would be cool if polar bears had around a 50% chance of having twins when they go to have children. It's not the biggest suggestion but I just thought it would be cool and a little bit different.

Black Nether Fortress biomes and Chars

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 11:13 AM PST

Since the nether is being reworked I was thinking that could be a new easily addable biome available: The Black Nether Fortresses.

    Black Nether Fortress

The black nether fortress would spawn EXTREMELY rarely, on a new block 'Black Netherrack' and is basically the nether fortress but with 'Black Netherbrick'. Black Nether brick would be an amazing block available since there aren't many pure black blocks usable in builds, and black bricks would be huge for builders. I imagine it would look similar to this:

    https://imgur.com/a/3oayAw8

Black Nether fortresses are unique, however, in the fact that they ONLY spawn wither skeletons, as in no piglins, zombie pigmen, or blazes. Instead of blazes spawners, there are wither skeleton spawners. This is to further put this idea of two warring factions between wither skeletons and piglins. However, within the Black netherrack biome, there is an upgraded version of the blaze: 'the Char'.

    Chars

Chars are powered up versions of the blaze that utilize the appearance of mob D from the mob event: https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/article/meet-mob-d . Instead of firing bursts of three fireballs, they shoot more like a minigun, shooting one in a constant barrage. On death, they drop Coal, blaze rods, and 3-6 obsidian.

    Redstone Boots

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 05:10 AM PST

No, they are not just another boot type. They are crafted with redstone in the boots recipe and provide 0 defense. When worn, the player's feet is always giving off a redstone signal. Walking by Redstone activates it. Think of it like a pressure plate that moves with you and that you're always activating. Zombie and Skeleton type mobs can wear them and actually use them.

    Blowgun

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 06:50 PM PST

The Blowgun is a small weapon that works like a crossbow. It uses Darts as ammo. It also fires instantly instead of a charge up, but has less range. The Blowgun has a chance to spawn in Jungle temple chests, buried treasure that spawns inside a jungle, and by trade with jungle toolsmiths. It can also be crafted with one bamboo and one stick.

The dart is crafted with a stick and a fern. It is used with the Blowgun and deals slightly less damage than an arrow.

The Longshot Dart is crafted with two darts together, meaning it travels farther and deals more damage than a regular arrow.

Cocoa Beans and Fermented Spider Eyes can be crafted together to get a Poison Seed, combined with Awkward potion stuff, it can make poison effect stuff. However it can also be used as a material with the Longshot Dart to create a Poison Dart.

The Poison Dart is like a normal dart, but inflicts poison and has a 13% chance to inflict wither instead.

    Curse Of Invisibility

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 08:45 AM PST

The curse is effects weapons, tools, and armor and is simple. When this curse is on an item, all other enchantments and curses are hidden and looking at the item only shows this curse. In order to figure out what is on the item, the player must actually use and experiment with it.
