[Brainstorm] Top Monthly Suggestions for December 2020! This Month's Theme is "The Early Game"!

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 03:05 AM PST

Your monthly reminder that yes, there are suggestions that do get over 200 upvotes from the Minecraft Community. Truly crazy, innit?

In this post are showcased all the suggestions for the past month that have achieved beyond 200 upvotes, as well as the 10 closest stragglers that were just shy of making the mark.

Welcome to the December TMS, and Happy New Year! Even though the pandemic is still around, and may have disrupted your plans, I hope you've had a relaxing and enjoyable Christmas break nonetheless.

We've also surpassed the slightly notable landmark of 275K members! We'll hopefully be reaching the grand landmark of 300K members very soon.

Also, it's not just the Top MONTHLY Suggestions this time; there's a Top YEARLY Suggestions that you probably want to consider checking out. See if you've manage to get a post of yours on both the TMS and TYS!

SO, without further ado, let's take a look at the month of December! To start us off, we have 119 suggestions that made it to the 3 digits, with 30 reaching 200+, 14 reaching 300+ (Luminous!), 11 reaching 400+ (Super Luminous!), 4 reaching 500+ (Brilliant!), 1 reaching 600+ (Fabulous!), 2 reaching 900+ (Magnificent!), 9 reaching 1000+ -- 1500+ (Ascended!), 22 reaching 1600+ -- 2000+ (Legendary!), 13 reaching 2100+ -- 2500+ (Mythic!), 12 reaching 2600+ -- 3000+ (Omnipotent!), and 1 reaching 3100+ (Omnipotent+!). Not too many posts recently, but that's still a solid amount.

And here's a look into what types of suggestions made it onto this list:

    • Blocks & Items:28

    • Mobs:19

    • Gameplay:9

    • Terrain:7

    • Redstone:6

    • General:5

    • Structures:5

    • Magic:5

    • Sounds:5

    • Plants & Food:4

    • Weather:4

    • Combat:4

    • AI Behavior:4

    • User Interface:3

    • Advancement:3

    • High Quality Post:3

    • Monthly Theme:3

    • Dimensions:1

    • Achievement:1

    • Command:0

    • Controls:0

    • Bedrock Edition:0

    • Java Edition:0

[Blocks and Items] has taken the lead over [Mobs] once again! I suppose it's because of all the interesting new blocks such as dripstone, sculk sensors, amethyst, and powder snow. And we have had three high quality posts this month, which is amazing!

    THEME: "The Early Game"

Recently Mojang has added the Bundle, which helps out early-game inventory management. Could there be more items/blocks like this, which help out in the early game? Could there be alternative methods of progression in the early game? Brainstorm your best ideas for improving or changing the early game!

Monthly Challenges January 2021 1. Get a monthly theme post to 200+ upvotes (+35 points and +5 per 50 upvotes more) 2. Come up with a unique functionality for a certain mob/block/item/structure etc. in a monthly theme post (+20 points once) 3. Receive 2 constructive comments on a monthly theme post (+10 points /per)

Steps to participate: * Your post must be in r/minecraftsuggestions. Your post will also automatically appear in the "monthly-workshop" channel of the MCS Discord - however we highly recommend that you join. (Credits for the webhook goes to the the awesome u/TitaniumBrain) * Make sure your post has the [Monthly Theme] flair * Must be posted within the correct month

Also, we now have a Top Monthly Challengers wiki page! This is a leaderboard for all the points you all have accumulated over the monthly challenges. Contribute to the monthly challenges and try to get to the top of the leaderboard! (Note 2: This page is a pretty new addition, so we haven't put it in the menu/sidebar yet, and the name of the page is subject to change. For now, it's only accessible through the link above, but expect it to be more accessible soon.)

    Special Mentions

Congrats to u/NameSyrname for being MVP for the month thanks to their 3000+ post!

The underrated post of the month goes to: "A Unique Rework to Phantom Spawning & AI" by u/ThatOneKirbyMain2568 (once again)! OP has come up with some very interesting ideas about improving the Phantom, and I recommend you take a read through too.

Finally, we have the winner of last month's Monthly Challenges (Theme: Winter Plants and Foliage). Last month's challenges were:

    1. Get 100+ upvotes on any monthly theme post! (+25 points & +5 per 100 upvotes more)
    2. Create an entirely new addition that fits the monthly theme, and include concept art or textures/models (+40 points)
    3. Revamp an existing aspect, mechanic, block, or mob that exists within this month's theme (+20 points & x2 for high quality)

The winner is u/Trigonaut who has gained 55 points, from this post. This means that they are now in 2nd Place on the leaderboard.

    Great job, everybody!

    IN OTHER NEWS:

We have a winter subreddit design!

If you use PC New Reddit (where it looks best), you've probably already noticed that the subreddit has been given a new coat of paint. We've decided to leave Old Reddit as is for now, so if you use Old Reddit, you might want to consider taking a peek over what we've done in New Reddit. Especially with u/ClockSpiral's banner design, New Reddit now looks really cool! I totally didn't steal a fellow moderator's pun so that I can reuse it here

    Moderator Applications

Even though we've already (sort of) discussed about the potential moderators, we're always open for more. If you think you have what it takes, free to apply through this form and we'll have a look at it :)

Note that you must be in our Discord if you wish to become a moderator, as that is where we do all our discussions.

    This month's wiki changes:

    FPS:

    • End islands generate at different heights

    Rejected:

    Implemented:

    High Quality Posts:

The guidelines for a High Quality Post have been slightly adjusted to:

    • The post contains unique, original and decent ideas.
    • The post goes into good detail and has adequate explanations.
    • The post contains textures, concept builds or models.
    • The post contains art or animations.

This is the general sort of guideline we've been going off for the past few months, especially with the increase of decent quality posts, so we figured we might as well update the description on the actual High Quality Posts page.

Also, if you have a Discord account, we'd also like to invite you over to our official MCS Discord server if you ever feel like doing some real-time brainstorming. Or, you know, just put up some memes, we have those too (just keep them SFW and in the proper channels. ;)

    KEEP IT UP, FELLOW SUGGESTORS!

(If there was a suggestion that was missed, please let us know below. Despite our best efforts, we haven't yet reached infallible perfection just yet (we're still trying, impossible as it might be), so some mistakes are still within the realm of possibility.)

    ♦ Beautiful Suggestions 200 and Beyond ♦

And here are the 10 honorable ones:

All Monthly Suggestion Posts are catalogued on the subreddit's TMS Catalog Wikipage.

And finally, you can see some suggestions that have actually been implemented on the Successful Suggestions Wiki Page! Maybe one of these will make it on there someday! If you have a suggestion that actually has been implemented in some form or another, please let us know so that we can update the list. Thanks!

Note: The comments are not for posing ideas unless they pertain to the feedback theme. If an idea crops up in a discussion, then that's fine, but for posting a suggestion for the community and the developers, that is what the "submit" button at the top right is for.

Until next time folks, have a fantastic day/night, and take care! :D

Top Suggestions for the Year of 2020

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 03:36 AM PST

What's this? It's not the Top Monthly Suggestions - it's the Top Yearly Suggestions, this year listing all posts in 2020 which have exceeded a whopping 2000 upvotes.

Welcome to the report for 2020's Top Suggestions! (or alternatively you could call it the Top Yearly Suggestions.) The last time we've had a TYS is at the end of 2018, so it's probably a first for most of you (including me, who joined MCS in 2019).

It's amazing to see how r/minecraftsuggestions has developed over the past year. At the end of 2019 we weren't even at 100K members, and hardly any post managed to exceed the 2K upvote benchmark. Yet here we are now with posts that exceed 4K upvotes, a great deal of high quality posts (it feels like I'm giving that flair out every week!), and quite a bit of developer interaction too! MCS has been going in a great direction this year, and I'm sure it'll continue to do so.

And of course, Minecraft is going in a great direction too. I was thinking that the Nether Update will be the greatest update of all time, but now watching the Caves and Cliffs snapshots arrive, I think I'd be proven wrong. I (and likely you too) can't wait to see the future of Caves and Cliffs and the future of Minecraft. Big thanks to the developers at Mojang!

Also, in case you're wondering, we still have a TMS report for December, which is the usual, and will cover the more recent news and changes of MCS. Be sure to check it out! Both the TYS and TMS will be included in the TMS Catalog. On the topic of the TMS Catalog, I recommend you have a look through the TMS/TYS reports of the past there. From my experience, it's a really good indicator of how much MCS has changed and developed throughout the months/years.

Anyway, without further ado, let's take a look at the most upvoted suggestions of 2020!

This year we have- oops, I completely forgot about doing this section. Sorry about that, but I've counted it up quickly and I can tell you that we have had approximately 2000 suggestions which broke the 200+ barrier this year! (The reason why it is approximate is because halfway through the year, the benchmark changed from 100+ to 200+, so it isn't fully accurate. And there was one month where the total wasn't present. Sorry for any inconveniences; maybe I will fill this in later.)

But I can tell you that the MVP for the whole of 2020 goes to u/TheAverageRedditor23 thanks to their... 7000+ post! This also means it's the top upvoted suggestion of all time - good job!

(If there was a suggestion that was missed, please let us know below. Despite our best efforts, we haven't yet reached infallible perfection just yet (we're still trying, impossible as it might be), so some mistakes are still within the realm of possibility.)

Wearing a Zombie head makes a player hold their arms forward.

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 10:15 AM PST

The title says it all, it would be purely visual, and the swinging animation would stay the normal one handed animation except the arm starts out forwards instead of down.

    Guardians of your base: Eagles

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 07:03 AM PST

    Guardians of your base: Eagles

Eagles are neutral mobs that spawn on mountains with their nest blocks.

    Model

    Nest Block

    Behaviour

    -Hitpoints: 12 hp

    -Easy damage: 2 hp

    -Normal damage: 4 hp

    -Hard damage: 6 hp

Eagles fly in large very large circles above their nests at day and look for prey. They are aggressive towards sheep, goats and salmons. When they see one of these mobs or get provoked, they dive and swoop at their target and fly up again.

    Attack Animation

At night, they land on their nest to rest until dawn.

    Eagle sleeping on it's nest

    Taking off and Flying

What do they bring to the gameplay?

First of all you need to find an eagle nest. If you break the nest, the host gets mad at you. What you need to do is, place a salmon or mutton in the nest. When the eagle notices it, it comes and grabs it. Then starts eating it in the air. You have 5 seconds to break the nest with a silk touch tool at this point to obtain it. Beacause when the eagle finishes, it will start to look out for it's home again.

When the nest is broken while the eagle is eating, a reverberant squeek will be heard and the eagle will fly up in the air and then dissappear. When you place the nest somewhere and leave one of the preffered foods of the eagle there, the eagle will come back and take it. Which will make the eagle stay there. Each food will make the eagle stay there for 3 minecraft days. When the eagle is present, the nest will apply glowing effect to the hostile mobs in a 20 blocks radius. Implying the eagle is using it's eyes to warn you of the dangers nearby.

    Feedback is welcome!

    Placing enchanted books on lecterns

    Posted: 31 Dec 2020 06:31 PM PST

It would be awesome to see a feature which allows you to place enchanted books on a lectern. Instead of clicking on it to read something, it could just be decoration. The pages could move if you got close, and/or particles could apear.

I would definetly use this combined with the new crystals to make an awesome wizards library. Plus it seems so obvious, but unfortunately not.

    Happy new years <3

In Java edition the wither should have an attack known as wither-cloud

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 08:09 AM PST

In Java edition the wither is very easy to cheese and hasn't really gotten many updates since it was added in version 1.4

So introducing the wither-cloud attack. The way this attack works is that the wither stays in place hovering but slowly spreading out black particles that make a sound that sounds a bit like tortured souls breathing. This cloud can also spread through spaces that are at least 2 blocks tall and 1 block wide and the cloud can spread out a maximum of 5 (on easy) 10 (on normal) and 15 (on hard). The wither can not move during this process (which can last a maximum of 30 seconds)

If you step into this cloud it will give you wither || for 10 seconds and that effect will loop (unless you exit the cloud of course)

    Ambient Cave Noises

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 07:07 AM PST

Cave noises should only produce(or whatever the word is) into caves with a light level of under 5.

Players are scared of Cave Noises because they don't know what lurks in the dark caves, but imagine walking into a mine you built and suddenly hear a cave sound, it would not make any sense.

Dispensers with shears should be able to cut vines

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 06:05 AM PST

Since dispensers with shears can cut wool from sheep I think they should be able to cut vines. It makes sense when it comes to consistency and it would also make it less tedious to collect big quantities when you need lots of mossy blocks

    Ice Caves

    Ice Caves

Ice Caves would only generate inside of Snow biomes

    New blocks

    Cold Stone :

Cold Stone would make up most of the ice caves, When Mined it will drop its cobblestone variant, Cold Stone could be made into decorative blocks Ex: Smooth Cold stone, Cold stone bricks, etc.

    Ice Stone :

    Ice Stone

Ice Stone wouldn't spawn as much in ice caves, When mined it will drop itself,Ice stone would not be able to be crafted into any new blocks, the player is able slip on on these blocks.

    Icicles :

    Icicle

Icicles would act like stalactites, if the block above the icicle is broken, the icicle will fall down, dealing massive damage, if the player or any mob gets hit by an icicle, they would take freezing damage (powdered snow)

    New Items

    Frost berries:

    piglin packs

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 08:58 AM PST

like yeah there are piglin packs kinda, like 3-5 grown up piglins and 2 or 1 child piglin

what i suggest is that there should be levels for packs

level 1 the normal 4-7 normal piglins

level 2 7 piglins 1 hoglin (rideable) qnd 1 baby piglin

level 3 4 piglins 2 piglin brutes 2 hoglins (rideable)

this is essentially like pillager raids but less massive. i also think that finishing a pack would give you a banner. and each level would have a new banner design on it

Add Proper Underground Ambience Music and Sounds

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 07:00 AM PST

It fits perfectly with the focus of Caves & Cliffs update. The only sort of underground ambience that we currently have are these scary cave noises, wich technically aren't cave ambience, since they can play in any dark place, I think.

I know that we have Overworld music, wich can play anywhere in the Overworld, even in underground. But these music don't give the proper feeling of being in underground.

So I think that this upcoming update would be the perfect time to improve and add underground ambience music and sounds, similar with how the Update Aquatic made with oceans.

Here is a example of how the underground music should be; I know it don't fits with Minecraft music style, but it gives you the feeling of being underground. Also, for anyone wondering, this music is from a Sandbox game called Crea.

Well, that's it, guys. Any constructive criticism is welcome. Thanks for reading!

    Snow should soften your fall.

    Posted: 31 Dec 2020 05:09 PM PST

Snow is soft right? Well I think falling into snow should soften your fall by at least maybe 10 or 25% and with the upcoming caves and cliffs update, there will be lots of snow. This would make sense right? I think it does. But it should only soften your fall in block form because its bigger but idk. (I'm not good at suggesting anything, this is my first time here suggesting anything so if you dont think it's good... well idk...)

    grindstone but for potions

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 03:16 PM PST

it would be called something like "mineral extractor" or something and you would put a potion into it and it would separate it into an awkward potion and the item used to make the potion (e.g, sugar, ghast tear, etc)

if you did it again you would get a water bottle and a nether wart (used to make an awkward potion) and if the potion was splash (added gunpowder) or if had a longer duration (added redstone) when you put it in the mineral extractor it would also take those out.

An example would be you have a splash fire resistance potion that lasts 8 minutes, and it is separated into a normal fire resistance potion and gunpowder, and then if you do it again it is separated into 3 minute fire resistance and then redstone, again it is awkward potion and magma cream, again it is water bottle and nether wart. Maybe after a certain amount the mineral extractor breaks, but since grindstones don't break then it probably won't. (first post on this sub, please tell me your opinions in the comments)

Ideas to improve the glow squid

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 06:45 AM PST

Sorry if this is the wrong flair tell me and I'll change it.

As of now, glow squids are just another passive mob that won't do much. I feel as though it would be really cool if they would lure the player in similarly to the Mesmer in subnautica. Unlike the Mesmer however, it wouldn't lure the player in to do any damage. If you look directly at it, the glow squid would keep the player focused on it and unable to move their mouse away for 5 seconds. It would also make it so you can't see the oxygen bar while you are distracted. This would make the glow squid not just another passive mob but something to try to avoid while underwater.

Different cave types should have higher probability under certain biomes.

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 02:01 PM PST

For example, Extreme hills should have a higher probability of a large / drip stone cave spawning underneath, jungles would have a higher probability with lush caves. This would make it so the player is incentivized to explore different biomes for caves.

The option to have seperate buttons for croutch and toggle croutch.

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 10:15 AM PST

Personaly this would be super handy. When building bridges or on high altitudes for example, toggle croutch is very useful but usualy not otherwise. This would get rid of the need to switch controls all the time.

When palm trees get added the desert structures should use palm wood instead of jungle or oak

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 09:48 AM PST

It would be a small change, currently buttons and doors in villages and temples have pressure plates it would make sense if they'd be made out of palm

[SUGGESTION] Skulk Sensors Should Scream When Mined, Setting Off Noise Sensitive Mobs And Adding More Danger To The Deep Dark

Ambient sounds should play reversely in the deep dark biome

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 03:22 AM PST

Essentially all ambient sounds(i.e: The cave sounds and ambience) should play in reverse order this will give the deep dark a more eerier atmosphere and a feeling of mystery. Perhaps these sound could also distort when the warden is nearby ?

These fireworks will be in the shape of numbers (0-9) and there pattern will be sold via wondering traders. This would be a great idea for a "New Years" update so people can celebrate the new year with a bang!

    Thankful Enderman

    Posted: 31 Dec 2020 07:46 PM PST

After you kill the Ender Dragon, Enderman on the main island should not attack you anymore unless you respawn the dragon. The reason for this is because after you kill the dragon, Enderman make a distorted "thank you" sound. I think that if they turned peaceful(again, main island only.) then it would show that they are really grateful for what you did

    The wood saw

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 03:28 PM PST

The wood saw would work the exact same way as a stone cutter, but with wood!

You can make a stair or a slab for only a single wood plank

A new villager could be added, maybe a lumberjack? -this villager will give you emeralds for different types of logs, and maybe can give you axes or other wood related items

Suggestion for the ability to toggle large oak tress.

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 05:22 AM PST

Currently, you can get the large oak trees by using a single sapling; this could be changed. If you place oak saplings in a 2x2 square, the sapling that you bonemeal could be the one that grows the trunk. This would avoid having annoying large oak trees be nuisance when trying to get smaller trees. Also, this isn't a new idea due to the fact that jungle trees and spruce trees act like this - i.e. having a small and large variant.

Chainmail Armour should turn invisible if you are also invisible

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 02:12 PM PST

Unless you are trying to get all types of armour for a collection or something, chainmail armour has almost no use. Since Iron armour is stronger than it and usually easier to get, Chainmail armour isn't a very popular choice to wear. But what if it turned invisible after you drink an invisibility potion? One of the main negatives about drinking invisibility is that you can still be seen if you wear armour, but wearing Chainmail armour could still make you appear invisible while also giving you an extra level of protection. Since Chainmail is a somewhat see through armour it would make sense, and wouldn't be too OP seeing as Chainmail armour is pretty hard to get and not very strong.

    Bonemealable Grass

    Posted: 31 Dec 2020 09:43 PM PST

Sorry if I am using the wrong flair, but my suggestion introduces a new aspect into making grass grow faster on dirt.

I was recently playing Skyblock in 1.16 and I was waiting for grass to grow on dirt. I tried to bonemeal dirt next to grass because that seemed logical, but it did not work. My idea basically adds a quality of life feature where you can bonemeal adjacent dirt next to grass to turn it into grass.
