[Brainstorm] Top Monthly Suggestions for May 2021! This Month's Theme is "Structures New & Old"!

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 03:23 AM PDT

Your monthly reminder that yes, there are suggestions and ideas that do get over 200 upvotes from the Minecraft Community. Truly crazy, innit?

In this post are showcased all the suggestions that have achieved beyond 200 upvotes, as well as the 10 closest stragglers that were just shy of making the mark.

Hello and welcome to this month's TMS!

Before we start, we're changing some of the formatting to something new from this month - for the post flair counts and the upvote counts, instead of presenting the data with the usual text, we're going to be using images of graphs! This will: 1. Reduce the amount of characters, making it less likely to reach the character limit 2. Make the TMS look more pretty and easier to read :D

Let us know if you like the new changes!

**edit:* I was going to include the images as embeds, but it turns out when making posts in the Markdown Editor, image embeds are impossible, so you have to use the Fancy Pants Editor, but if you use the Fancy Pants editor, you can't do complex formatting (such as different sized headings), which is a bit of a problem. Nonetheless the image link can still be included - it just means you might need to click on it to see it.*

Also, I can't take full credit for this month's TMS: u/TitaniumBrain massively helped on a lot of the work, such as counting up all the points from the monthly challenges and checking the wiki changes, and this month's theme and challenges were brought to you by u/Planemaster3000! Thanks to you both!

So, let's see how the new upvote and flair data looks:

Upvote Bands of Posts with 200+ Upvotes

Post Flair Data of Posts with 200+ Upvotes

There were a total number of 92 posts which passed the 200 upvote mark, which is less than usual, but once 1.17's released in a week's time, maybe the ideas will start cooking back up again for the rest of Caves and Cliffs! And interestingly this month, the top two most popular flairs: Blocks & Items and Mobs have tied.

    THEME: "Structures New & Old"

Many of Minecraft structures are amazing, and it's always exciting when you encounter one, but sometimes, they can be a bit underwhelming and disappointing. How can existing structures be improved to be more interesting and exciting? Could there be some small tweaks, or a massive overhaul? Alternatively, should the current structures be kept as is and make way for some new and more interesting structures? Get ready to structure your ideas!

Monthly Challenges June 2021 (this month, there's four!)

    3. Come up with a unique idea involving revamping existing mobs or adding a new and challenging one based on the theme of this month (+20 points once)

There are two winners for this month, who are tied with 50 points - they are u/Chris_The_Alligator (for their Skullcrab suggestion) and u/TheTaciturnRogue (for their Whip Scorpion suggestion) , from this post about insect sounds in lush caves, placing them pretty high up in the Top Monthly Challengers leaderboard!

    Great job, suggestors!

    IN OTHER NEWS:

    Moderators

The mod applications have made a return! If you're interested, check out this post for details: [LINK]

And talking of moderators, we have one new full moderator (subreddit + discord mod) and one new discord moderator: u/ThatOneKirbyMain2568 (A.K.A. cherry man Microsoft_PowerPoint on the discord), and u/TheDragonWarrior2284 (A.K.A. The Dragon Warrior on the discord)! The former is a subreddit and discord moderator, and the latter is a discord moderator exclusively. They have been trial moderators for the past month and now they have been promoted to the official status of moderator. Feel free to say hi to them if you wish!

At the same time, we unfortunately saw u/MrOzone2020 step down from moderator for personal reasons this month. But do not fear: he's still very much active on the discord, so he's still available to talk to.

    Custom Awards

Yep, we've finally added some custom awards that you can give out to your favourite suggestions! (though unfortunately only if you have enough coins - they cost the minimum possible amount of 500 coins). If you're on the discord, you might recognise some of these fishy friends...

The custom awards we've decided on are as follows:

    • Poggerfish
    • PufferSax (puffer holding saxophone)
    • Well Crafted Idea (a crafting table)
    • Emerald
    • Nether Star

To hand these out, click on the "Give Award" button under the post, go to the "Community" tab and choose an award.

We'd also like to hear your feedback on these. What are your thoughts on these awards? Do you think there could be more awards? Should we set up a moderator-only award to give for the best posts? Let us know in the comments below!

    This month's wiki changes:

Quite a big chunk of FPS changes this month:

    FPS:

    • Adjustable light blocks and/or invisible light source block (partially implemented in Bedrock Edition as light blocks obtained using /give) [implemented, so removed]

    • Some way to transfer enchantments, or choose specific enchantments (e.g.: a grindstone or new block that takes enchantments from armor/weapons/tools and puts them onto books).

    • Chocolate or chocolate milk/cake (cocoa beans + milk/cake)

    • Shooting stars

As well as that, there's also a new Hot Topics section for ideas that are frequent due to recent snapshots/news, but may or may not stay on the list depending on whether it dies down. The following points were moved to this category:

    • Smelting raw ore blocks

    • Scoped bows/crossbows

    • Torch arrows, or making spectral arrows emit light

    • Glowing ink/dye used to craft glow stick/coloured lamps etc.

    • "Stealth" enchantment/potion or feather falling/slow falling reduces/cancels player noise, making it harder to be noticed by the Warden

    • Wardens get stunned by any source of sound, such as jukeboxes, TNT, fireworks, bats, etc.

And now for another reminder for everyone, please read the FPS List before making any suggestions just to be sure that your idea hasn't already been covered or posted frequently in the past. Also, if you have a Discord account, we'd also like to invite you over to our official MCS Discord server if you ever feel like doing some real-time brainstorming. Or, you know, just put up some memes, we have those too (just keep them SFW and in the proper channels. ;)

    KEEP IT UP, FELLOW SUGGESTORS!

    ♦️ Beautiful Suggestions 200 and Beyond ♦️

If there was a suggestion that was missed, please let us know below. Despite our best efforts, we haven't yet reached infallible perfection (we're still trying, impossible as it might be), so some mistakes are still within the realm of possibility.

And here are the 10 honorable ones:

All Monthly Suggestion Posts are catalogued on the subreddit's TMS Catalog Wikipage.

And finally, you can see some suggestions that have actually been implemented on the Successful Suggestions Wiki Page! Maybe one of these will make it on there someday! If you have a suggestion that actually has been implemented in some form or another, please let us know so that we can update the list. Thanks!

Note: The comments are not for posing ideas unless they pertain to the feedback theme. If an idea crops up in a discussion, then that's fine, but for posting a suggestion for the community and the developers, that is what the "submit" button at the top right is for.

Until next time folks, have a fantastic day/night, and take care! :D

If candles can go on cakes, torches, lanterns and candles can go on bottom-slabs.

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 02:46 AM PDT

With 1.17, a feature was added that allowed candles to be placed on cakes. With the addition of this feature, it sets a precedent for smaller placeable items to be allowed to be placed on bottom-slabs. Now I wouldn't expect fences or walls, but it make perfect sense for candles, torches and lanterns to be placed on bottom-slabs, similar to the Torch Slabs Mod. I feel this is a very vanilla-feeling feature, and should be in the base game.

A new banner pattern that DOUBLES the amount of motifs possible on a banner

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 03:59 AM PDT

The banner pattern inverts any selected motif. Example: instead of a black bar in the middle of your banner, you fill out everything except where that bar goes.

It would be a master trade from shepherds for 6 emeralds and 2 pieces of paper

    Illager mineshaft

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 11:43 AM PDT

This would be a new structure spawning exclusively below y=0 (deepslate layer).

Though it is similar to the abandoned mineshaft in some ways, it is instead made of dark oak, and has no cobwebs or holes. The minecart tracks are complete. There is tnt at the end of some tunnels.

While it lacks a cave spider spawner, illagers generate with the structure. It has lots of vindicators, however most spawn with pickaxes, making them slightly less dangerous. Some regular vindicators spawn, as well as a few Commanders-a new illager wearing iron boots, leggings and a chestplate, with 30 hp. They wield a sharpness enchanted iron sword, and a shield, which they use when too far away from a targeted player.

This structure mostly contains barrels instead of chests. They are filled with resources the illagers have gathered from mining. Emeralds are quite common, with also a lot of redstone, iron, coal and copper, some gold and lapis and rarely diamonds. Mob loot is also present, including slime balls, bones, enderpearls and string. Supplies like bread, iron tools, and tnt also appear.

The structure has some exclusive rooms compared to abandoned mineshafts

-Sleeping quarters: full of lined up beds.

-Smeltery-room with lava pools and blast furnaces, some still containing unsmelted ores.

-Storage-lots of mostly empty barrels, some tnt blocks lying around, minecarts lying in random places.

    Soil Quality Mechanic

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 02:50 AM PDT

    Soil Quality Mechanic

    SOIL QUALITY

Dirt comparisons (Top being normal dirt, bottom being the new level colours of dirt)

Soil quality is a mechanic based upon dirt. Soil quality influences overall plant growth from crops and saplings to grass growth. Good soil quality allows for quicker plant growth while poor soil quality slows plant growth while neutral soil quality is the current growth. Soil quality to be indicated through slightly darker or more orange textures. Soil quality encourages sustainability and good ecological practices. Soil quality is fully interactable. If you mess up the ecosystem by making it a city with no plant or animal life you will see soil quality in the area go down. If you create a biodiverse forest you will see a significant boost in soil quality around the local area.

    Influences

Soil Quality is influenced by the plants, biomes, and animals in-game. More plant diversity allows for better soil quality while lesser plant diversity can slowly degrade the soil quality. Animal diversity is also important in increasing soil quality. Both plants and animals' population has an important effect in-game, if there are too many of one species it can reduce the soil quality. Biomes that are drier are going to naturally generate with poorer soil quality while biomes that are more wet can provide a better soil quality. All these factors together should create semi-realistic simulations of terrestrial ecosystems.

    Good Soil Quality:

Good soil allows for crops to grow much quicker, but it also allows a wider range of bonemeal growth and saplings will require less time/bonemeal to grow into a full tree. Grass blocks will be affected by this and grow more fast. Biomes in good soil quality include generation: Swamp, Forests, Plains.

    Neutral Soil Quality:

Neutral soil is the current growth we have currently in Minecraft. Biomes in neutral soil quality generation: Birch Forest, Dark Oak Forest, Spruce Forest.

    Bad Soil Quality:

Bad soil makes crops slower to grow, while it is not completely ungrowable, it does take much longer than good quality soil. Biomes in bad soil quality generation: Ocean, Badlands, Desert.

    Recognition of Soil Quality

A dirt texture change is very subtle, each level depending on its value will change its colour. If the dirt is more orange, it has a poor soil quality while a darker dirt means it will be good quality soil. You would also be able to identify its exact soil quality through the debug menu (F3) and looking at the block individually.

    Dirt Pickup

Dirt Blocks on pickup, despite being level 1 or level 5 in soil quality, will reset to level 3 when picked up and placed down.

    Social Impact

The social impact of soil quality being added can enable all audiences to think more sustainably about their environment in the real world and how equilibrium in ecosystems is important and should be protected, consider it a pathway towards all audiences learning more about environmental sustainability.

    The Wither needs an overhaul

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 12:35 PM PDT

I personally hate Wither fights. They are extremely boring and easy if you simply put the wither in a small room deep underground. I think the wither is designed to be fought in open spaces, since it can only has a ranged attack and also it can fly. However, most people simply spawn them deep underground in a small tunnel, where it has basically no power. I think this should be prevented since it makes this "epic boss fight" super disappointing.

    My suggestions are the following...

    1. Make the explosion in the beginning bigger. It should destroy up to 15 blocks in every direction. This forces the player to fight it in an at least somewhat big space.
    2. Make it spawn Wither Skeletons. This would make the fight much more challenging and would also be reasonable, since the Wither is basically the boss of the Wither Skeletons. Maybe it spawns about 1 Wither Skeleton every 30 to 60 seconds.
    3. It should also have special wither skulls that are like throwable potions of the wither effect. This would make fighting it in close spaces more dangerous since dodging it is very difficult if you don't have a lot of space and it also restricts your movement even more by forcing you to walk around it.

Please tell me what you think about this!

Void pixels on maps should be transparent

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 11:06 AM PDT

When making a map in the End, the Void is a dark gray color. Instead, it should be transparent. While this doesn't sound like a big change, it would allow players to make transparent bits in map art. I can see players combining transparency with glowing item frames to make neon signs such as the classic OPEN signs on restaurants, as well as rims on cars and better-looking logos for shops. While we're at it, why not make stained glass semi-transparent on maps, allowing for custom colors by layering it on top of more stained glass or other blocks?

    Ender Shipwrecks

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 09:57 AM PDT

I think we should have a new structure called the ender shipwreck. It would spawn around the small end islands, and would be basically broken down versions of normal end ships.

They would have endermites in fearing a few purpur and cracked purpur in each one, as well as a new block called the Ender Cobweb which would be crafted with End Silk (dropped by endermites) and teleport you like chorus fruit when you land in it.

The loot would contain broken tools and armor, as well as a broken elytra

    Regular Deepslate Slabs/Stairs.

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 11:51 AM PDT

I find it weird how there is deepslate tile slabs, deepslate bricks slabs, cobbled deepslate slabs, and polished deepslate slabs, but no just regular deepslate slabs. It would be good for terraforming and adding detail to caves. There is stone slabs for this reason too, but for some reason no deepslate.

Add a way to keep coral blocks from dying outside of water.

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 01:48 PM PDT

Similarly to waxing copper, you should have a way to keep coral blocks from dying out of water to be able to use them on land. Maybe you can "wax" them using a bucket of water on them, and you should be able to make them able to die, (if you want to for some reason) by using something dry like dirt or wheat.

I want this to be a feature so then you can use blocks like the red coral for decorations like for fire, or using the brain Coral blocks for floors, etc.

    DeathPoint

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 05:12 AM PDT

The title says it all but here's what i mean : We've all experienced the painful event of dying in some point of the game and forgeting where we actually died even though we even may have had coordinates on. The idea is to have a command known as: /locate deathpoint This command will give you the cordinates of the last place you died. Now this might not be helpful at all in survival but it could be a pretty useful tool for creative players.

Quazapher - A unique and rewarding guardian of structures in minecraft.

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 09:27 AM PDT

Quazapher - A unique and rewarding guardian of structures in minecraft.

There are multiple kinds of temples in Minecraft, but some need a protector. Quazaphers are a new mob that will do that, has a unique ability, multiple forms, and can even be tamed and ridden.

The Quazapher has 40 health. It may spawn in a few structures which it will protect, and is hostile towards players and certain mobs. When it attacks those mobs, it can eat them, which makes it change its form. Each form has different attacks and behavior, though they're all aggressive towards players.

    https://preview.redd.it/dknaatr33w271.png?width=738&format=png&auto=webp&s=e5d9b6a86c17482162180e68b14251bd13f65d2d

If a Quazapher is in water, it'll look for any water mobs to change its form, and if it's not near water in its swimming form, it'll change to any other form. Otherwise, if a Quazapher is in a form, it won't attack mobs that change it unless stated otherwise.

Quazaphers drops vary depending on their form, plus 1-5 XP.

    https://preview.redd.it/219e1mh53w271.png?width=933&format=png&auto=webp&s=d634686868a9f6e5437c1dfe7d8cd13e54ff5b0d

With difficulty, Quazaphers can be tamed. If a player manages to feed it at least 3 mobs that are named and would make it transform to its current form, then it'll become tamed. When tamed, it'll only attack mobs when the player clicks while riding it, in which case it'll use its non-bite attack unless you feed it, so you can change its form.

As stated earlier, a player can ride inside the Quazapher. While inside, they're immune to drowning and suffocation depending on the form. In its burrowing form, they can hide in blocks and burrow 2 blocks down, as well as move how it does normally. When inside, the nametag will display as:

Lava Chambers in the nether fortresses

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 07:01 AM PDT

    Images

Lava chambers are a new room in nether fortresses. You see that pillar of lava in the center of the room? If you have a potion of fire resistance, you can go in it and descend down the pillar to a new room. This room has 4 chests all with treasures. Not that big of an addition, but a expansion nonetheless.

Add more flexibility to world creation.

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 07:34 AM PDT

Let's have some more options for world generation:
    1. Customizable Bonus Chests
    2. The freedom of choosing which biomes will generate and which ones will not
    3. Get a preview of the world in a map form (radius of the first 10 chunks from spawn point)
    4. The freedom of choosing which mobs will spawn
    5. Cave generation type [Note: This one is for 1.17, if players want it, they can switch between the modes "Original Caves" and "New Caves"]
    6. [Impossible but alteast considerable] Setting custom spawn points: this one will override the purpose of suggested feature 3, and to fix it, we can first both features correlate, meaning if we set spawnpoint to x: 345 z: 211, then we can be able to see a radius of the first 5 chunks from spawnpoint 345 ~ 211

    Molten Caverns Cave Biome.

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 10:20 AM PDT

I'm making this post since I sort of believe the C&C (caves and cliffs) Update lacks content that would make the update feel more "complete", and probably will make more of these.

This biome is exclusive to the caves. They're found between y-12, they're a bit enclosed of mobility, similar to caves before 1.17+ but a bit bigger...ish. The biome is full of Smouldered Stone, Stone, Geyser Blasters, Lurkers, Magma Blocks, Lava Pockets, Lava pools and etc.

Please note that, this is supposed to be a short concept. Please modify this is you want to with more ideas. But this is a small idea that I've thought of now.

Smouldered Stone is a different variant of stone which is found in the Magma Caverns. It's a blacked out, crumbled stone, similar to Blackstone but not quite. It covers a lot of the biome, there's normal stone here and here but that's how it's.

Then we have Lurkers, a mob that borrows between the walls and leaches out of them, back into the wall for a quick and nasty attack. There's a 1 in 4 chance that you would be applied the Venom Affect per bite, which deals 0.5-1 heart of damage per second instead of the Poison. It's a bit similar to the Vex. They're lizard-like creatures with only a two arms, a head, body and tail. Tail's segments are similar to a Enderdragon's. Dangerous, pesky mobs. Try to not dig yourself in, or there might be no way back during mid-game.

Geyser Blasters are a natural block (only found in the Molten Caverns), that consumes the source of liquid underneath it, and spews it out. Lava especially, is dangerous. Once the particles fall back onto the block, it's absorbed and then underneath the block is dropped back into liquid. The particles used are the dripping liquid ones, but many, many of them. They act every few seconds. And if lava is spewed on you, looks like you're in for a bad time!

You've probably grasped the concept so whatever, chest ideas, new block ideas. Come up with them. But I want some molten/hot cave biome minecraft.

Mine Shaft wood type varies based on what biome you are in. That way you can easily tell what biome you are in without using F3 and simply using your underground environment for more immersion and realism!

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 12:59 PM PDT

I always wondered why mine shafts were simply oak planks though now in the cave update they added oak logs and chains which is a good improvement. But mine shafts could be much more unique and diverse. Instead of just oak they should make the wood type change depending where you are in the game. Then people who are doing only underground gameplay in 1.18 can have access to different types of wood without going to the over world.
