Players eat much faster when under the Hunger Effect

    Posted: 23 Mar 2019 10:54 AM PDT

    Something very small for now.

Although your hunger drains much faster, you are able to refill it in a shorter amount of time, allowing you to use food to heal much quicker.
It's a way to give hunger a positive to it's existing negative that can be beneficial in certain situations. I made this post with Combat in mind.

I also want to let you guys know that building Up, Up, and Update: Starlight appears to be taking longer than I expected and I'm not happy with it yet. So in the meantime I want to focus on more pressing issues with 1.15 around the corner. Thanks!

1.15 Speculation: The Combat update Ver. 2 (feat new Cave and Nether features).

    Posted: 23 Mar 2019 05:48 AM PDT

1.9 was known as the 'Combat Update' - But as we all know, it also updated the End dimension. - 1.15 could be the combat update Ver 2. (Kinda hinted at with the devs being more interested in combat recently, and the absence of the Smithing and Fletching tables in 1.14). - I'm going to list each section in chunks so that it's easier to keep track of.

    Combat:

I don't really know what else to put here other than that they will update (and hopefully improve) the current 1.9 combat situation. - I Kinda hope the team at Mojang add in a couple new weapons to go a long with this as well. (Scimitars, Spears, Hammers etc.) - New enchantments are inevitable. - Just your basic "update and improve combat" - I don't want to put much more here for combat because basically everyone knows what they want from the combat.

    The Nether:

First of all, the one thing I can see which will 100% get an update in the future (possibly 1.15 to go with the new combat) is our old friend the Nether Fortress. - These bad boys are in desperate need of an overhaul, since they haven't been touched since 1.6 when chests were added into them. - The structure lacks rooms. - The corridors are fine, but they need a huge revamp to make going to the nether that little bit more exciting. - New mobs are welcome too. - Idk what they could be, but more baddies which maybe have a shield mechanic which roam around the concrete halls of the Nether Fortress. - Also another reason to go to a Fortress would be nice. - Maybe another optional item akin to the conduit (how you have to find the pieces to craft one). - Also those lava oceans need to be explored! - Nobody knows whats underneath them (Nothing... Duh) - but some underlava plants and mobs would be really nice to come by. - A lava eel and freaky plants used for brewing. - Heck even a structure under the lava would be really neat. (maybe its a key area to get that item which is built similarly to the conduit idea I had). - Of course some more freaky plant-life above the lava is welcome in my books. - Also, - Why not split the Nether up into different biomes like the End. - Other than that, I think that new Fortresses, new plants and some content to explore underneath the Lava seas would be 100% welcome.

    Caves:

Moss! - Stalactites! - A couple new alloy ores which are essential to modifying items with the Smithing and Fletching tables! - A couple of new cave mobs and some new unique cave designs would be welcome 100%. - Also an updated Abandoned Mineshaft design and look would be nice too. - Giving players a new updated place to explore. - The last thing I think needs updated are Strongholds. - Much like the Nether Fortresses, they haven't been touched in years. - Although they have more to offer currently, they could also do with an update with a new mob found in the dungeon etc.

    Summary:

    • New combat overhaul (inevitable)
    • A couple new weapons for us to play around with.
    • Smithing and Fletching Table functionality. (confirmed)
    • Nether Fortresses, Strongholds and Abandoned Mineshafts get updated looks and reasons to explore them.
    • New Plant life in the nether.
    • Some new content underneath the lava seas in the nether (an area which could be beautiful, but deadly).
    • Stalactites, Moss, New cave designs!
    • A couple new ores which are used for modifying and upgrading weapons at the Smithing and Fletching Tables.
    • New Mobs in the Nether, Caves, and Strongholds.

Let me know what you think!

Motherload Suggestion 1: The Geological Playground

    Posted: 23 Mar 2019 01:15 PM PDT

    ----- Warning! Long post! -----

Motherload Suggestion 1: The Geological Playground

For a while now I've been scratching my head over the Minecraft underground and thinking of ways to spruce it up a bit, and now with this months theme being ores I've finally put something together.

(A personal comment: I'm an exploration geologist and parts of these suggestions will get geeky, so bear with me and please roast my a** when it gets too geo-heavy).

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The goal with this suggestion is two-fold:

    • Enhance the underground experience in Minecraft
    • Introduce a skill based option to mining as opposed to just grinding at y=10 to 12

Since I want to know more precisely what parts of my BIG idea for the Minecraft underground are liked I will be posting this idea in six (including this post) parts.

    1. Motherload Suggestion 1: The Geological Playground (The post you are reading right now ;))
    2. Motherload Suggestion 2: Banded Iron Formations
    3. Motherload Suggestion 3: Orogenic and Carlin style Gold with Lapis
    4. Motherload Suggestion 4: Kimberlite Diamond Diapirs
    5. Motherload Suggestion 5: Layered Coal Deposits
    6. Motherload Suggestion 6: Redstone Cartography: VES and Mag.

I will, once the idea is tested here, compose the parts you liked (if any) and put together ONE suggestion to post on the official Minecraft feedback site.

I will try to have the five upcoming suggestions out during the next couple days (having trouble uploading pictures, anyone know how?). The suggestions/ideas below are small bits and bobs that make sense in a larger context with the five following posts (please keep that in mind). So, lets get into it:

    Changes to rocks

The addition of granite, andesite and diorite back in 1.8 (2014 guys wow way back) was for me an exciting update to the underground, but I think it's time to take them a step further (note; the way these blocks appear currently would be exchanged for this suggestion):

    • Diorite: As a geologist I think its a shame that all "special rocks" are magmatic, therefore I would like to suggest that diorite be swapped for Marble (sedimentary rock). For the block and item this would really just be a name change, same texture and everything, we'd just have "Marble" and "Polished Marble" as opposed to "Diorite" and "Polished Diorite". The "new" Marble blocks would generate as 2 to 3 blocks thick layers underground (much like terracotta in mesa biomes, you can see clear layering in this picture https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Marble_outcrop_-a.jpg). The marble layered horizons would not be bound to any biome or y-level, so they occur at any depth.
    • Andesite: Not much to change here, but andesite is an extrusive volcanic rock and it would be nice to see it more at surface in extreme hills biomes (the rock is common in the Andes, hence the name).
    • Granite: Here, I suggest granite being generated as plutons (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pluton). They would appear as large upside-down drops at y=0 to y=30. Their dimensions would be about 10 blocks wide and 14 blocks tall. Their insides would be spotted by magma blocks and on the head (top of the pluton) there would be a layer of lava (decreased pressure --> melting (yes I'm a geek)). These new granitic plutons would be more abundant in extreme hills biomes (more volcanically active areas). The final draw to these granitic plutons would be that (in extreme hills biome) they would have a chance to spawn with a pegmatite core (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pegmatite) represented by 4 to 5 emerald ore blocks. Picture of concept: https://imgur.com/a/E8LmGVM

Lily of the Valley new features

This connects to the new Marble block (old diorite). Simply the idea is that Lily of the Valley grows where Marble is found, so if you find Lily of the Valley whilst out on an adventure and dig straight down you would eventually run into marble. The usefulness of this becomes apparent in "Motherload Suggestion 3: Orogenic and Carlin style Gold with Lapis".

    Mantle Plumes

These would be large 10 to 15 block wide pillars of magma and lava rising up to surface, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mantle_plume. This would be a subsurface feature to go with the numerous suggestions on volcanoes and geothermal systems. I believe volcanoes have been heavily suggested so I won't mention more of them other than saying that I really wish to see them implemented.

    Deeper sedimentary basins

This really just means that blocks under deserts, swamps, jungles and mesa biomes would be of sedimentary type down to a deeper y level than it is today. So under the deserts we would see sandstone down to maybe y=30. This topic will be reconnected to in "Motherload Suggestion 3: Layered Coal Deposits".

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have made quick analyses of how the gameplay may change from these suggestions and summarised them here, this list will make a lot more sense once all posts are made.

    Potential effects on gameplay:

    • New intermediate effort play style for finding a lot of ores (see suggestions 2 to 6)
      • For the player that seeks adventure
      • For the player who doesn't enjoy building farms for iron, gold, etc. but still wants a lot of ore.
    • More uses for the compass and cartography table will encourage to bring them along for adventures fighting for inventory space.
    • May affect where players choose to set up a base.
      • New valid strategy to set up a proper mining operation
    • Risk that a player stumbles upon a motherload.
      • Sudden "unearned" ore which may feel a bit wrong
      • This must be balanced by motherload rarity and the size of their reward
    • Players would get rewarded for paying attention to subtle surface features (Lily of the Valley, round lakes)
    • VES suggestion may be OP
      • Balancing is discussed in "Motherload Suggestion 6: Redstone Cartography: VES and Mag."

If you made it this far thank you for reading (I hope to see you in the comments), sorry for the immensely long post, and warning more is coming...

    Give Animals more Personality

    Posted: 23 Mar 2019 02:47 PM PDT

The little things like sheep eating grass or Panda personalities should be added to more Minecraft animals. Some animals just act the same. Pigs and Cows are no different. Also herds of animals would follow each other, and when one is hit, all of them run.

EDIT: Have more of them sleep too

Drowned should receive a rebuff when on land for long periods of time.

    Posted: 23 Mar 2019 09:50 AM PDT

Drowned should receive slowness and weakness when away from water after ~40 seconds. Rain negates the debuff.

Another idea is that they reverse the cycle in deserts. (Drowned-Zombie-Husk)

Behavior changes: After the debuff hits for a few seconds and the player is not nearby, drowned seek bodies of water.

    New Tree: Mangrov

    Posted: 23 Mar 2019 06:46 AM PDT

These Mangrov trees would spawn where jungle meets water. They would be mostly in water and have big roots. These Mangrov trees are not tall maybe the biggest one being 6 or 7 blocks tall.

    The Hall of Flame!

    Posted: 23 Mar 2019 02:17 PM PDT

Hello, this will be my ideas on the Nether. Hope you enjoy. Criticizing and suggestions are accepted.

    Biomes

    1. Tunnels. The tunnels always existed in the Nether, but now they're a class of biomes. There are 3 types of tunnels: Normal Tunnels, High Tunnels and Low Tunnels. The difference between the three are: Normal Tunnels are normal, as the name says. Low Tunnels appear on lower parts of the Nether, making more quartz appear, but more lava will appear too. High Tunnels appear on higher parts of the Nether, has a lower chance of quartz, but lava and fire will appear less. Not non existent, but will definitely appear less.
    2. Lava Oceans. Lava oceans are already in game, but now they're a bit tweaked. The top of the Nether Fortress would be closer to the lava, making appear new buildings, such as the Nether Port, and Nether Boats. Nether Boats and Ports are further explained on the rest of the post.
    3. Nether Kingdom. Welcome to the Nether Kingdom! Enjoy your stay. Here, the land is habitated by Zombie Pigmans! There are three types of Zombie Pigmans: The Civils, the Guards and the Royalty. When attacked, the civils will run away from you, probably atracting guards. Still able to be killed and looted. When attacked, guards will gather up and attack you. Beware that. But try your best to not attack Royalty! Even if they don't manage to get guards, they have a pretty good training against humans. Watch out!

    Buildings

    1. Ghast Towers. Where do Ghasts come from? Now you'll know. These towers are home to mobspawners, who will spawn Ghasts nonstop unless destroyed! But watch out! Zombie pigmans guard the towers and won't decline attacking you!
    2. Nether Kingdom. You're probably thinking: "Didn't we talk about this already?" Well, yes, but there's more! Civil Zombie Pigmans (For now, we'll refer to them as ZP's) have roles, just like villagers! Unfortunately, farmers don't have water to use, so they had to make plants somehow resistant to lava! Now they plant: Pepper, Red Wheat, Tomatoes and Nether Warts. They are all planted on Soulsand, but still can be planted on normal dirt. The Castles are habited by atleast one king and queen. Various other versions of Kingdoms exist in the Nether, each with it's banner.
    3. Nether Port and Boats. The Nether Port is the place where the kingdoms send their guards in missions across the Nether. (The boats actually don't move, but don't tell that to them. They are pretty... sensible.) The loot that you can normally find on the Port is food and weapons. (Golden ones, obviously.) The boats are ocuppied with Zombie Pigmans, who will attack you the moment you set foot on the boat. The loot you can find is golden weapons and equipment and, rarely, the Nether Elytra. The captain of the boat is the boss, so good luck!
    4. Quartz Temple. A quartz temple, hidden in the underworld, home to a great prize of rare ores, illuminated by the glowstone, but you shall only survive, if you deal with the boss you'll find. The boss is the Quartz Golem. A Quartz Golem can be made same way as an Iron Golem, and has the same appearence, but Quartz. It is more powerful than a normal Iron Golem, so watch out. (Also, fire resistent.)

    Ores

    1. Steel. There's new ores in the Nether, and this is one of them. Steel can be turned into Steel Ingots, turned into armor, which is better than iron armor, but not as good as diamond. Can be turned into a block. The equipment and weapons are better than iron, too, but still not as good as diamond.
    2. Platinum. The platinum is very useful if you don't want to make giant bridges around the Nether. Can be used to make Blocks and, believe me or not, boats! These boats can only be used on lava, since if used on water will definitely sink.

    Mobs

    1. Pyrohorde. The Pyrohorde are agressive, fire-resistant horses. They will attack you if you get near, and will try to push you in lava. Can be tamed by feeding Peppers.
    2. Fire Creepers. Even in the Nether, Creepers will be coming for you. And they're even more dangerous this time! When exploding, Fire Creepers will leave fire on the crater, and god help you if they explode on your base. Remember, they can destroy cobblestone. They're not like Ghasts. Watch out!
    3. Quartzfish. The Nether version of Silverfish. They can hide in quartz blocks and are fire-resistant. Watch out for them, specially in the quartz temple!

    Food

    1. Pepper. Restores 1.6 hunger. Gives a Fire Resistance boost for 15 seconds.
    2. Red Wheat. The Red Wheat can be used to make Red Bread. Not much difference from normal bread, just gives a fire resistance boost.
    3. Tomatoes. Restores 1.6 hunger.

    Items

    1. Nether Elytra. The Nether Elytra is a different version of the Elytra. While speeding by, if managing to hit a player or mob mid-air, will make it start burning!

I guess this is the end of my ideas, atleast for now! Thanks for reading. Just like i said at the start, criticizing and suggestions are gladly accepted. :D

this would allow the creation of way better trees, also work as beams and other building uses. a way to improve this even more is to make it possible to put leaf blocks in the same block as them, kind of like water logging, except with leafs.

sorry for the quality of the pictures, I'm not that good of a builder :p

    New enchantment : Double jump

    Posted: 23 Mar 2019 05:34 AM PDT

makes you able to double jump in the air for all those times you couldn't reach the blocks in-front of you, or wanting to quickly jump over a fence.

normal minecraft lets you get a running jump of a 4 block gap, with double jump you can jump 7 blocks. can also get you up 2 blocks.

this enchantment is one of the highest one or could possibly be only found in treasure chests,

( If people where to find this to OP )

There could be an option for it that it can't be combined or put on boots that already have mending on it.

It doesn't automatically double jump you have to hold / or press space twice

every once in a while, whilst you double jump the armour takes extra damage.

Block suggestion: A block that can be clicked through but can't be walked through.

    Posted: 23 Mar 2019 03:26 PM PDT

Very simple block, You can right click on anything on the other side of it, you can mine it, but you can't walk through it. It seems like it would be a subtle addition with many possible uses.

Noteblocks that lack volume by distance.

    Posted: 23 Mar 2019 08:57 AM PDT

It would be cool if we could craft noteblocks that always play at a consistent volume if you were in it's area of effect. (It would also be neat if these new noteblocks had quite a bit of range) This would allow noteblock builds in survival to be far more practical, and would go great with the new tones! :D

Motherload Suggestion 2: Banded Iron Formations

    Posted: 23 Mar 2019 03:15 PM PDT

    ----- Warning! Long post! -----

This is the second part of a six part suggestion, for the first part go to: https://www.reddit.com/r/minecraftsuggestions/comments/b4nopn/motherload_suggestion_1_the_geological_playground/

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Motherload Suggestion 2: Banded Iron Formations

The background to this ore suggestion is rooted in the soon to be change to Iron Golem spawning rules. As we know the days of highly efficient iron farms may be numbered :,(. If we wish to continue with unhealthy iron consumption I suggest that a new rich form of iron can be sourced in Minecraft; enter Banded Iron Formations (BIF), for further reading: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banded_iron_formation.

    Core idea:

Bringing a more a more predictable however rare source of iron to the game large enough to justify setting up a small camp and maybe some infrastructure (rails and what not). Hopefully these kinds of mineral deposits would encourage a new kind of adventuring to Minecraft, prospecting.

    Main highlights:

    • Major iron deposit @ 60-80 iron per chunk (same as average disseminated iron)
    • Occurs as 2 to 4 sheets layered over each other
    • The sheets span over several chunks (5X5? what's reasonable?*)
    • Generates at any y-level (subsurface, never visible at surface)
    • Generates in any biome except extreme hills (mountain forming plutons overprinted BIF deposits long ago ;))
    • Can be located by both compass and VES (methods will be presented in part six)

    * Concerning rarity and balancing: The total amount of iron should be enough to reward the player for putting in effort to find the deposit, yet not too large. With a 5x5 span and 60 to 80 iron per BIF chunk we're looking at 1500 to 2000 iron ore.

    Basic concept picture:

    https://imgur.com/a/SxDJIm9

The picture shows what a chunk sized slice from a Minecraft BIF could look like. The red terracotta represents jasper (SiO with Fe staining (I'm a geek, super geek)). As seen in the picture the iron ores wouldn't occur continuously but be separated by some blocks from each other, however the concentration is by far larger than non-motherloads.

The major benefit of this kind of deposit in Minecraft is that the iron would be easy to mine once found, so it move time spent digging to adventuring the overworld with a compass which at least I would enjoy more.

    Details:

A BIF deposit in Minecraft could also act as a chemical trap for Gold, so elevated gold numbers could also be expected in BIF maybe a few percent higher than the gold average of non-motherload gold.

A BIF deposit is highly magnetic and therefore a compass would deviate from pointing to spawn, this makes bringing a compass on ordinary adventuring more useful since you may then come by a BIF motherload. The degree of deviation the compass shows depends on the size and depth of the BIF. (I will develop far more on this idea in part six).

    Hot Springs

    Posted: 22 Mar 2019 09:17 PM PDT

I think that hot springs would be a great addition to the game. I took a trip to Yellowstone about a year ago and I wondered what it would be like to encounter a natural hot spring while exploring your world. Also, warm water might be a cool addition as well, and it would naturally generate in a hot spring and produce steam. Lastly, maybe even a rare geyser? This is just an idea right now, I'll work on more details later.

    Deep Nether Biome

    Posted: 22 Mar 2019 05:55 PM PDT

I believe along with many other people that the nether is a bit empty, there are the nether fortresses but thats about it, I think that there should be a special nether biome. There could be giant holes that go far down and lead to a much more deadly hellish nether with strong new mobs (maybe nether version of creepers) and there could be tons stuff maybe encluding a partially built nether portals along with chests with blaze rods, quartz, wither skeleton heads and other nether items. There could be a effect where you can get "over-heated" occasionally and get nausea unless you drink a liquid. There could also be a transparentish mob that wears red rags and when it hits you, you get caught on fire. There could could also be lava pools with chests somewhere at the bottom. I really just feel the nether should have another whole new biome that is even more deadly but has great goods.

This just a small suggestion but shields when placed into an item frame should look like a mounted shield on a wall instead of being treated like a normal item.

The reason I suggest this is because I made a Viking Longboat in creative mode and assumed this is how it worked already. Wasn't a big deal I used banners instead but having mounted shields using item frames would add some atmosphere (for lack of a better word) into the game.

    Reinforced Leather Armor

    Posted: 22 Mar 2019 08:50 PM PDT

lets be honest, how often do you really use leather armor? like, at all? maybe its just me, but i practically never use it even in creative. so, how do we make leather armor useful? reinforcement.

Basic Rundown: In an anvil (or, later, the smithing table) combine one piece of leather armor and either an iron nugget (light, think just adding bits of chainmail) or ingot (fully, adding full iron plating) (this is changed in the smithing table by surrounding the leather in the respective material). the light provides more AP (armor points) than leather but less than iron. fully reinforced leather is almost if not just as good as iron.

you may ask "then whats the point, i can just make iron armor" and to that i say: sure, but this is less about overall practicality than it is for customization. this allows you the complete freedom of color choice (which btw, mini suggestion, dye table- allows easier dye mixing to get the exact color you want [only needs red, blue, and green dye; only works on armors and similarly dyeable items]) that leather provides, while also providing worthwhile protection.
