[Brainstorm] Top Monthly Suggestions For February 2020! This Month's Theme is "Mining Mechanics"!

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 02:26 PM PST

Your monthly reminder that yes, there are suggestions that do get over 100 upvotes from the Minecraft Community. Truly crazy, innit?

In this post are showcased all the suggestions for the past month that have achieved an upvote notoriety beyond 100, as well as the 10 closest stragglers that were just shy of making the choice 3-digit beauty mark.

Hello wonderful people of MCS! Welcome to March! Kinda crazy that we're already almost a quarter of the way through 2020. Man, does time fly.

Anyway, sorry about the very slight delay to this TMS, we had a major glitch with the TMS bot and it accidentally sent us every post from February, rather than just the top ones. When we fixed that glitch and sent it scurrying off again to find the top posts though, another glitch happened, this one unfortunately unavoidable:

While we do have a lot of the top posts for February listed here, we are currently missing some from February 1 to February 9, so if you have a post from that time period, please send it here so we can add it to the list ASAP.

SO, without further ado, let's take a look at February, shall we? We have 77 suggestions that broke the 100+ mark. This number is most likely inaccurate, as some of the posts are missing, but with your help we can hopefully push that number up a little higher. Anyway, 9 of those made it past 200+ upvotes (Super Luminous!), 2 reaching 300+ (Enlightened!), 3 reaching 400+ (Ascended!), 4 reaching 500+ (Legendary!), 9 reaching 600+ (Mythic!), 16 reaching 700+ (Godlike!), 1 reaching 800+ (Omnipotent!), 7 reaching beyond our normal naming conventions, with 3 reaching 900+, 3 reaching 1000+ and 1 reaching 1100+.

Special congratulations go to /u/The-Most-Sour-Lemon for being MVP for the month of February thanks to their 1100+ post. Great work! :D

And here's a look into what types of suggestions made it onto this list:

    • Mobs: 18
    • General: 10
    • Blocks & Items: 10
    • Plants & Food: 6
    • Terrain: 5
    • Structures: 4
    • Gameplay: 4
    • AI Behavior: 3
    • Advancement: 3
    • Weather: 2
    • Sounds: 2
    • Redstone: 2
    • Dimensions: 2
    • Bedrock Edition: 1
    • Java Edition: 1
    • Magic: 0
    • Combat: 0
    • User Interface: 0
    • Command: 0
    • Controls: 0
    • Achievement: 0

Mobs once again beat the pants off of all the others. You guys really love your mobs, eh? Hopefully a few of them get in some day. ;)

    THEME: Mining Mechanics

This month's brainstorming theme is...Mining Mechanics! By this we mean gameplay mechanics specific to mining and caving, and how they can be improved or expanded upon going forward. After all, mining is in the name of the game! This doesn't solely have to be for the Overworld underground, though. This can also apply to using any old tool for any block it's meant to be used for (besides bedrock, of course), and in any dimension. Have fun brainstorming!

    IN OTHER NEWS:

We have a new moderator, guys! Say hello to /u/Martijndebakker! He's been a long-time member of the community, and is very eager to help us out going forward. We also have someone else we're currently training, but he will be officially announced next month since he's still a Junior Mod.

Also, we've updated our implemented suggestions catalog with some new ideas that got implemented. Check 'em out!

While this isn't MCS-related, per se, a new snapshot was also released today: 20w10a. I highly recommend you check it out, as it has added quite the gamechanger for hoe-users: proper enchanting!

And finally, here's your monthly reminder to please read the FPS list before making an idea, just to be sure your idea isn't already on there.

    Carry on, suggesters!

    ✨NEW SECTION: "Feedback Posts"✨

What's this? A new section in the TMS? Why yes it is!

In this section, we are putting links to any major feedback posts that we've put up regarding key features in the upcoming 1.16 Nether Update. Because development won't last forever, this section of the TMS is, for the most part, temporary, until the next update starts to roll out. But for now, here are our current major feedback posts for 1.16:

    1. Netherite Feedback

    2. Crying Obsidian Feedback

<>If there was a suggestion that was missed, please let us know below. Despite our best efforts, we haven't yet reached infallible perfection just yet (we're still trying, impossible as it might be), so some mistakes are still within the realm of possibility.<>

    Honorable 10 Suggestions:

<> All Monthly Suggestion Posts are cataloged on the subreddit's TMS Catalog Wikipage.<>

Note: The comments are not for posing ideas unless they pertain to the feedback theme. If an idea crops up in a discussion, then that's fine, but for posting a suggestion for the community and the developers, that is what the "submit" button at the top right is for.

Also also, you can see some suggestions that have actually been implemented on the Successful Suggestions Wikipage! Maybe one of these will make it on there someday! If you have a suggestion that actually has been implemented in some form or another, please let us know so that we can update the list. Thanks!

Until next time folks, have a fantastic day/night, and take care! :D

    Reviving the old idea: Enderite

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 10:39 AM PST

I did a search and most posts talking about an "Enderite" were made years ago (4, 6, etc) and I feel like the existence of Netherite warrants we revisit this idea.

To me, having only one end-game tier (diamond) was a bit boring. That boredom would be replicated in the (definitely flex) Netherite, but we have the chance to invite something different.

Use diamond as the base for all future end-game tier armors, tools, and weapons - each one with a different, competitive focus. Every bonus should, like Knockback Resistance, not be available by any other means - certainly not enchantments or potion effects. Exclusive benefits! Let's start with Enderite?

    Enderite

Armor made from this stuff is almost identical in stats to Netherite, and this material is scattered through the End and offers "Aerial Agility" instead of Knockback Resistance. It should be balanced such that people would never have an easy time choosing between it, and Netherite. Competitive balance!

Each point of Aerial Agility increases your control while jumping or falling, allowing you to drift further on long plummets or make deft fake-outs. Pairs nicely with the Elytra you're trying to get.

It may also get some natural feather-falling effect, allowing you to stack the enchantment for some truly daredevil skydive falls.

    Why?

I think as a concept, having multiple types of comparable endgame armor (and tools?) would be a nice way to reinvigorate player choice and get a bit of that "collector" mindset going. There's no need to stop at Netherite or Enderite, to me, and each base tier (or at least Iron and Gold) could get their own sub-upgrades using other/new/unusual materials.

Spiders should not be able to climb Glass or Glazed blocks

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 10:35 PM PST

Ordinarily, Spiders and other bugs have trouble or difficulty climbing vertical smooth surfaces. I feel this should be reflected in game. This would also simplify spider farms, because then spiders will no longer gunk up in places in the farms, so it will be better for servers to reduce lag for long-term AFK spider farms.

Edit: Post to the Feedback Site is currently pending as I type this, but for the future, the link is here.

    Baby Villagers Studying

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 08:44 AM PST

Baby Villagers should do a behavior called "studying", where they approach the adult Villagers while they are working on their job site block trying to learn something from them. They will approach different Villagers with different Villager jobs every day.

A Baby Villager that's going to be a nitwit will not study at all.

Edit: When it's not a Villager working time, they will play with each other or sleep when it's nighttime.

    Dash/Rush, a shield enchantment

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 09:08 AM PST

Basically it's an enchantment for shields that allows people to dash forward. It's similar to Riptide but here are the key differences:

-First of all, it does not deal much damage or any if it's possible. Instead it merely knocks entities in front of the player back and a little to the side while pushing entities closer to the side even further to the side. Basically creating an opening to escape. It is a defensive tool after all

-Second of all, it does not work underwater. It's capabilities are outmatched when it comes to underwater travel and it make sense. A shield has a larger surface area that'd make it hard to push against something as dense as water compared to air.

-Third of all, it only works horizontally. So you can't launch yourself into the air like with Riptide, but you can perform longer jumps. Perhaps up to 8 blocks, double the amount of the usual longest jump possible.

It will come in 4 different levels, with each level progressively increasing the distance, knockback, and even adding anew effect (if possible). -Level 1: Capable of knock backing entities by 3 blocks and increases jumping distance to 5 blocks.

-Level 2: Increases knockback to 4 blocks snd jumping distance to 6 blocks.

-Level 3: Increases knockback to 5 blocks snd jumping distance to 7 blocks. Adding a stun effect, which basically disables the entities movement and interaction with items for 1 second.

-Level 4: Increases knockback to 6 blocks snd jumping distance to 8 blocks. Stun effect increased to 1.5 seconds.

It would be interesting to have a way to face combat in a more defensive way rather than offensive way.

Edit: The way you activate it is similar to Riptide. You need to hold down right click, charging up dash, before releasing it to be launched forward. It would also only work on while you're on solid block so you won't be able to "fly" with it, but you can jump across long distances. So it will not overtake or be overtaken by the Trident.

Thank you to the people who've reminded me in the comments below!

    Baby Enderman

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 09:52 PM PST

Here's a fun little idea: A baby variant of the enderman. Looks like a baby zombie. ( Big head small body.) They have a small chance to spawn with a regular enderman. However, they are not neutral, they are passive. When looked at or attacked, they make a little scream sound and teleport away. Scaring a baby enderman makes all the endermen in a small radius agressive. When they pick up blocks they look like they are struggling to carry it. And sometimes they go up to endermen and hold their hands.

Edit: Their rarity in the end dimension is based on the game difficulty because startling one makes at least 5 endermen come for you.

Comparators from a Jukebox will output a signal based on how complete the current song is

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 05:17 AM PST

You could make all kinds of contraptions, least of them being an automatic disc player.

This could go along with discs automatically restarting when they finish (suggested elsewhere), but I feel that should be implemented whether or not this idea is.

    Enchantments Unique to Netherite

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 03:28 PM PST

Since netherite is an interesting and unique new tier, I thought it would be really cool if "gentle" enchantments from the overworld were replaced by harsher, more nethery enchantments. This gives netherite a dark, dangerous feel and sets it firmly apart from diamond gear.

    • Smelter/smelting: Enchantment for pickaxes and (possibly) axes and shovels. Replaces silk touch. When you mine a block with a smelting tool, it drops the version of that block that you would get if you smelted it. This has the neat property of replicating silktouch's ability to mine stone, but it differs from silk in a few neat ways. It auto-smelts metal ores, but can't pick up glass. It drops charcoal when cutting down trees and glass when digging sand. (This last one is overpowered, so either don't allow it to effect shovels or have it consume blaze rods/powder from the player's inventory when it is used.) If you mine a gemstone ore such as diamond with a pick that has smelting and fortune, the fortune takes precedence. This also works on Ancient Debris, getting you that scrap right away.

    • Lava Diver (I-II): Enchantment for helmets. Replaces Aqua Affinity and Respiration, and grants the following benefits: You can see farther, mine faster, and hold your breath (even longer than aqua affinity, which shouldn't work in the nether) in lava. Now you can go diving for Ancient Debris (Which I hear generates more under lava oceans) and come back in one piece (assuming you have some fire aspect.

    • Impact (I-III): Enchantment for boots. Replaces feather falling. When you hit the ground, some of your fall damage (up to 66% for level III) is dealt to entities standing near you instead. If you fall from far enough, some of the netherack around you is converted to magma by the force of your blow. Imagine your mate dropping down into a ravine right in front of you and all the creepers and zombies just snuffing it. Coupled with a trident to launch you into the air, this enchantment is equally scary for you and your opponents.

    • Heat Wave/Nether Aura (I-III): Enchantment for all armor pieces. Works like Thorns, but sets people who hit you in melee on fire.

    • Added suggestion I saw in the comments under the snapshot in r/minecraft: Netherite should have a red enchantment glow, rather than a purple one.

    • Soul Fire Aspect (not my idea)(I-II): Works exactly like fire aspects, maybe does a bit more damage, lights the target on soul fire. I suggest that soul fire burn even under water, so that it cannot be easily extinguished.

    • Enchanted books with these enchants (as well as the pre-existing Flame and Fire Aspect) will be found in nether fortress chests. They will appear with a red shimmer and will have a bit saying "can only be applied no netherite" so that new players know what they're for.

Let me know your favorite! Mine is impact.

Harvesting berry bushes with hoes will put the berries directly into your inventory

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 09:03 AM PST

With the snapshot changes, it's clear that the developers want to make hoes more useful, I find this a valuable change.

Berry farms are freakishly annoying. Constantly running into the bushes and getting pricked is my least favorite part of it, but at the same time, it's most probable to put the bushes close to each other for maximum efficiency.

There are ways around it with minecart hoppers and standing platforms, but it is very tedious to set up and difficult to harvest.

Even when conventionally harvesting berry bushes, when they aren't close to each other, you can still very easily get pricked.

This change would make for another farming-related and useful feature for hoes.

    Wither Affect Dropping Rotten Flesh

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 11:40 AM PST

If an animal that drops meat items dies from the wither effect, it will always drop rotten flesh instead of the corresponding meat drop. If the animal has the wither effect, and dies from fire at the same time, all of its drops turn into charcoal.

Dirt and gravel shouldn't be found beneath y 25

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 01:57 AM PST

Considering diamonds can be found at y 1-16 which require at least 1 billion years to form and pressures of 725,000 pounds or 328854.468 kilos. Dirt and gravel should not be present anywhere near it. Not only does it make it a pain to strip mine if you don't have a shovel on you. It makes no sense logically speaking.

When entering the Soulsand Valley, any music playing immediately stops.

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 07:24 AM PST

The Soulsand Valley is constantly compared to the Lost River from Subnautica. If you've played that game, sometimes when entering a dangerous and ominous biome like the Dunes any music playing will immediately stop. This is a great and subtle way of immediately showing the player that this area is dangerous and scary and you will likely regret entering it.

It is Minecraft, so of course the Soulsand Valley isn't all that scary, but compared to every other biome in the game and the fact that it's a network of massive caves almost entirely made of souls, it's certainly one of the scariest. Combined with all the skeletons, Ghasts, lack of cover, and Soul Sand, it's also definitely one of the most dangerous biomes, too.

Perhaps C418 could compose a/some quieter and eerie song(s) for the Soulsand Valley specifically that would play shortly after entering the biome, and stop when entering a new one, or they could keep an eerie silence.

Netherite smithing table needs more flair

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 03:11 PM PST

I know there are SOOOOOO many suggestions for netherite, such as redesigns, visual effects, etc. And the new smithing table feature is what we've been waiting for for a while. But the upgrade of diamond to netherite lacks the exciting impact of making the most powerful gear in Minecraft. I think it would be great to require some sort of consumable item to use, like fueling the forging process with blaze rods lava, or maybe something expensive. Maybe some particle effect would take place? (i.e. Sparks or lava particles)

Black ice and new ice generation.

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 10:34 AM PST

In order to make snowier snow, ice should generate if there are 3 blocks of snow above the area. When snow gets dense, ice is made.

Black ice because I feel like it would be interesting. Maybe make it like snow but with an almost see-through texture.

    Smithing Table functionality

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 12:32 PM PST

Make it the thing to use for everything netherite-y, but in addition to the Crafting Table, so that when using the Smithing table, Enchants from your Diamond gear carry over to the Netherite gear. Also, Netherite could be cheaper when using the Smithing table, something like 3 scraps and 3 gold when using the Smithing table (or somethimg similar, I'm not some god of balancing), while, as preciously said, retaining Crafting table function.

A new metal for the nether - Lead

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 03:50 PM PST

Everyone is going crazy about netherite. I agree, netherite is cool, but is inaccessible until you father diamonds. For the ability to start worlds in the nether, we need an equivalent to Iron. Introducing.... Lead!

Lead Ore is found in the nether in veins of 3-8, and would only require a wooden pickaxe to mine. This is because netherrack is softer than stone (because you are using your wooden tool from the fungi trees. )

Lead Tools all have the same durability as their iron counterparts. Lead Armor has less durability, but also has the knockback resistance like netherite.

Lead is a blueish grey metal, and can have blocks and nuggets. Lead is also able to craft cauldrons, anvils, rails. Generally, if iron is used, lead can replace it. But, you cannot mix iron and lead in crafting, one or another.

Lead nuggets have a chance to be obtained through pilgrin trading, which allows lead to be renewable.

Please, can we please have a new texture for fences and gates??

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 07:30 AM PST

Since they were added, oak fences and gates have always reused the oak wood plank's texture. Then we got different colours or fences and gates, which would have been the perfect opportunity to give them unique textures, but they didn't.

Why not make a texture for fences and gate already?

There should be an option for Bamboo to be placed horizontally, not just vertically

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 01:55 PM PST

You can place logs and end rods horizontally, why not place bamboo too ?

To place bamboo sideways place it on the side of the block you want to place it

Destruction 1 It would destroy itself if you would destroy the bamboo holding the block

Destruction 2 The bamboo floats in the air when you destroy the one touching the block its holding on

So yeah im thinking more about Destruction 1 Sideways bamboo would be a welcome change

    Wandering Trader Huts

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 02:42 AM PST

    https://imgur.com/a/552q1Ud
As they are, wandering traders are pretty useless. They very rarely have very good loot hat is actually useful and seem to never show up when you need them which is not often.

While this doesn't entirely solve that problem, I think wandering trader huts could definitely alleviate some of the issues. Here's how I think they should work and the two ways you can get to them.

    Functionality
Every wandering trader has a corresponding hut. The first way you can find a traders hut is simply bu stumbling upon it. They can appear in most biomes and change their appearance depending on what biome they're found in.

However, if you steal from the chests in a hut. That huts corresponding trader will no longer trade with you and their llamas will attack you on sight so watch out!

The other way you can find a wandering trader hut is if you do enough trades with a wandering trader they will bring begin walking to their hut. The journey may be difficult but following them to their huts causes them to cut all of their prices permanently and will have them trade more items with you. Similar to how a villager upgrades their trades once you have traded with them enough. For example, they may now trade stone and golden tools and have a very rare chance of trading nether items such as netherrack and nether warts.

This is a one time upgrade but you can do it for every wandering trader you find. Who knows what trades each one may give you.

    Appearance
Wandering trader huts are made of wooden planks (or sandstone) and cobblestone slabs. The wood type changes depending on the biome they are found in and so do the resources in the chests. They have a fence post on the outside which has a small chance of having a llama on a leash attached. The huts also have flowers on the outside as who doesn't like some good old decoration?

What do you guys think? I think having both options, either stealing from the wandering trader or earning their respect not only allows more freedom but also adds consequences. You can take the quick and easy route or take the harder one but get more rewards. But let me know any of your suggestions.
