Nether fortresses in soul sand valleys are made of black nether brick

    Posted: 12 Mar 2020 10:07 AM PDT

I won't go into black nether brick itself because it's been suggested a billion times.

My idea is that when a nether fortress generates in a soul sand valley, it is made of black nether brick instead of the normal nether brick block. Nether fortresses, like villages, will never change colour so if a fortress spawned in the nether wastes extends into a soul sand valley it will continue to be made out of regular nether brick.

Black nether brick's colour fits the aesthetic of the biome much better and of course adds a black building option for slabs, stairs and fences.

Typing in chat while sleeping keeps the chat open upon waking

    Posted: 12 Mar 2020 01:01 AM PDT

It's kind of tiring to have to retype everything you just typed because the chat box is closed upon waking and exiting the bed, but you didn't have the time to send what you were writing.

Small fix, since the character limit is already somewhat small. But quality of life, and all that.

Add Reverb to Ghast Noises if they're in the Nether

    Posted: 12 Mar 2020 01:07 AM PDT

Hello! I'm an audio engineer who dabbles with game sound design on occasion. The Nether update has added some nice ambient sounds to bring it to life. However, the ghast sounds feel environmentally out of place.

I love the sound ghasts make, but their voice doesn't match the environment they're in. The Nether is open and spacious, and I think it would be great if the sound design reflected that.

Below is a sample mp3 to demonstrate what I mean. The first two are the current sounds. And the last two is what they'll send like with reverb. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/424021395601620993/687570491682193408/ghast_reverb_before_and_after.mp3

New Type Of Ghast: Soulfull Ghast

    Posted: 12 Mar 2020 09:09 AM PDT

these would spawn in the soul sand valley and would drift around, they feed on the souls in the nether, they would look like this https://imgur.com/a/z0ZpM4p (im not a artist)

their new fireballs will be a ball of souls that they have eaten it would turn all blocks that the explosion touches into soul sand and soil, as well as lighting soul flames.

they would be larger, have more health and the soul blasts can't be punched back.

it would drop Soulful Tears which is actually apart of a *different* idea (Advanced Enchants / Alchemic Tables)

Shift+Right-Clicking an armored horse with a carpet changes the embroidery pattern of the armor

    Posted: 12 Mar 2020 12:38 PM PDT

Just an extension of my idea about giving skeleton horses disguises.

We can customize our cat and dog collars, but not our horses' armors?

Knights would highly dispprove if they were around to see us now! Half of the point of armor designs back then was fashion (no, really!)

    River Update

    Posted: 12 Mar 2020 01:22 PM PDT

Hi everyone, I would like to ask you about your opinion and ideas for a river update which I have put on the Minecraft feedback page.

It is a collection of scattered ideas from the feedback page as well as my personal input. Of course due to the limited character count not everything could be explained or put into it :D so please write comments and vote if you like it.

Whilst the River biome update is not as important as the Cave update, it is a good suggestion for a biome chooser, especially since the biome is pretty much everywhere and easily overlooked.

    The Suggestion was :

Minecraft river biomes are long stagnant lakes which are very overlooked as biomes.

I would like to see the biome to become more life like. Flowing from land to the sea, with its own structures, mobs and features. What more, due to these biomes being everywhere, they could have a biom-couple specific features. Any change to the river biome would change the look of every biome.

    How this could be done:

    • Rivers should have a width variation, from slim 5 blocks to rare 30 block. 30 may seem extreme but some real rivers are extremely wide.
    • Flow from higher altitudes towards the sea to mimic the river flow. It is understandable that the whole river cannot flow due to water flow being limited to 8 block but the river could do so gradually. "Steps" of stagnant rivers at different heights could mimic this behaviour. (30 still, one step down, 43 still, one step down, 20 still and so on)
    • Sub-biomes or parts of river topography such as streams, waterfalls, deltas, fjords, underground rivers and Glacial Rivers. Some of these could be could only in specific river-biomes combination such as the waterfall being only in mountain biomes due to their height.
    • Structures such as "flowing" logs, Mills and farmlands, bridges, small boats. (Mills and farmland could contain 1 to 3 villagers).
    • Villages should be more likely to spawn near rivers as real life settlement are more often found near rivers due to them being a great form of transport, source of water for drinking, lifestyle and farming. This means they village generation should be shifted towards river proximity but overall stay the same (or lowered due to mills and farmlands containing villagers).
    • Biome specific mobs for rivers. Deer (tamable and ride-able with a special saddle) would prefer to stay near rivers. Otters which would hunt chickens and fish. Beavers which would cut down trees and build dams. (each beaver-cut tree would spawn a sapling in its place).

Of course many other mobs could be added for the river biome and these were just some examples. Every river-biomes combination could have a specific mob added in any update because of the variety of biome combination. Some extra suggestions for mobs: jungle - river dolphins, plains - fishing birds, savanna- hippopotamus, desert- crocodile.

    • Hot springs. Not exactly part of a river but fairly connected and wanted feature. The hotspring would have a new type of water (mineral water or hotspring water) which would look similar to warm ocean water and give of light steam. The water would have a small chance to give 5-10 second regeneration. For balance purposes it should not have the ability to make infinite source.
    • New crop: Rice would be a fitting crop to add in this update due to its need for water.
    • New Blocks: Mud block would slow down players if they walk through it (similarly to soul sand) and a chance of suffocating them if deep enough. The mud block could be used to "die" red bricks into brown bricks ( 1 mud block surrounded by 8 red bricks). Brown bricks would be used for the brown brick block, a variation of the red brick. Pebbles could be small features similar to sea cucumber to add ambience (four pebbles would craft cobblestone). Several players desire similar decorative feature.
    • Boats should be able to swim flowing water, they currently sink.

Of course the River Update could be combined with the announced swamp update and together (perhaps with other features) could form the Second Aquatic update. The first one was concentrated on the oceans and seas, the second one on rivers, lakes and swamps.

Please writ your suggestions :D Thank you.

doesn't currently work for some reason... : https://feedback.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/community/posts/360058659052-River-Update

Pig Iron: a new Nether ore (+Textures!) - 2nd UPDATE

    Posted: 12 Mar 2020 08:32 AM PDT

    • Pig Iron

    Images: https://imgur.com/a/KMC3Hj9

Pig Iron is a new ore in the Nether, slightly stronger than iron, (17 armor points to iron's 15, which could be nerfed to 13 armor points). It can either be mined directly in the Nether, or be made in the Overworld by smelting an iron ingot again in a blast furnace. Pig Iron would make a great real world reference to real life 'pig iron', a form of crude iron and Piglins.

This ore would complete two things: Add a new reason to mine in the Nether, and fix the inconsistency between iron textures, with some being lighter and darker. It would replace the iron in crafting recipes for the "Darker" iron blocks, like anvils, cauldrons, etc. while also creating new blocks and tool sets, like new doors, trapdoors, and blocks. This would make hoppers, smithing tables, compasses, etc to require either double-smelting iron or mining it from the nether.

I want Pig Iron to take the current Netherite textures, since they look too similar to the other iron textures and could confuse new players. The textures look so nice though and should also stay in the game. Here's my compromise: if we just make it the Pig Iron texture, we reduce confusion, the nice textures stay in the game, and Netherite gets a brand new texture that allows it to be a bit more unique looking, which is a common complaint with it right now. Win-Win!

The Netherite retexture is just a mockup, just to show what it COULD look like!

    • Pig Iron Items and Iron item Textures

Here is what the textures would look like! I made a mockup of Pig Iron, compared to Iron and the retextured Netherite. I also added closeups of the Netherite retexture if anyone wants to see it in better detail.

    Images: https://imgur.com/a/KMC3Hj9

    Feedback Site: https://feedback.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/community/posts/360058142292-Nether-Ore-Pig-Iron

UPDATE: I took the discussion on the criticisms in regards to the textures and fixed them. I am fairly pleased with how most of them came out, especially the Pig Iron Trapdoor, since we needed a grate-like block. In addition, I've added more clarifying comments to make sure I get my points across. I have also added a possible new look for Netherite, making it look a little more like the Ancient Debris and gold mixed in!

Shift+Right-clicking a skeleton horse with a carpet gives it a shoddy disguise

    Posted: 12 Mar 2020 01:29 AM PDT

It "disguises" as a living horse, but if the living horse's coat was made of wool, its skin too wrinkly in spots, and its eyes were made of buttons. Think what mimikyu from pokemon is in relation to pikachu.

Basically, it looks like it's wearing one big 'ol sock puppet

This is just a way of letting players customize their skeleton horses since they don't get all the fancy coat patterns living horses have

Soul Shard, Potion of Crippling and Potion of Vitality.

    Posted: 12 Mar 2020 08:28 AM PDT

Soul Shards have a 10% chance of dropping when breaking Soul Sand and a 5% chance when breaking Soul Soil.

When brewed with a Thick Potion, it creates a Potion of Crippling, which inflicts a new Effect known as Health Loss, which reduces the amount of Hearts the Player has for its duration.

This, in turn, when brewed with a Fermented Spider Eye results in a Potion of Vitality, which increases the number of Hearts, using the currently unused Health Boost Effect.

    Withering plantlife.

    Posted: 12 Mar 2020 05:38 AM PDT

I was thinking of ways to make the wither boss battle more interesting. What if natural blocks (leaves, wood, grass, sea grass, coral, etc) "withered away" when hit by wither skull attacks?

When a wither skull hits a block, all "natural" blocks in a small radius around the impact would begin to change their appearance. Several seconds after being hit, black growth would begin to cover the block until the entire block was completely charred black. For grass/mercylium/podzol blocks, only the area with grass stuff would turn black.

Once fully charred, blocks like leaves, flowers, and grass would puff into a small cloud of ash particles and disappear. (kind of like the people in the avengers film) More sturdy blocks like wood and coral would stay charred black. However, when mined, they would break instantly and turn into a cloud of dust. Dirt variants would turn into coarse dirt.

This would be make the wither more dangerous, and in my opinion, would just be really cool. It also fits the theme of the wither well.

(nether plantlife would be immune to the withering effect)

    Gold crossbows!

    Posted: 12 Mar 2020 02:35 PM PDT

This here is about nether! I always wondered, where the heck theese piglins found the iron to actually make a crossbow? I see no iron beeing in the nether, but i sure see gold!

It will not stay so far away from working, this is just way faster in reloading, but also faster in wasting durability crossbow.

Also you can fix that with gold nuggets in the smithing table!

It should also have it's unique enchant to make sure this is different and by taking away fast reload enchant (since it already reloads fast)

we shold give heavy arrows enchant, which can destroy weak blocks such as glass, glass panes, pots and all other weak stuff you can think of

It also can go trough the honey and slime block (instead of stopping it, it will just have huge slow down)

Fishing Update: Actually useful for food, not OP for loot

    Posted: 12 Mar 2020 06:57 AM PDT

Fishing is dumb. It's useless as a food source, and it can be exploited to basically ignore ever needing to spend time enchanting something.

Make fishing a useful food source

    Make cooked fish tastier.

Buff fish mobility and AI (like they said they would do back in 1.14) so that hunting with a melee weapon is impossible.

Introduce "large fish" which exist only as items, which look epic in item frames, and which are obtained as a rare fish from fishing only.

    Make fishing more realistic

It's dumb that as of 1.14 you can see fish swimming right under the water, but the fish which bite are always invisible. Make it so that fish spawn nearby when you're fishing and pathfind to the hook. This also makes fishing in a 1-block space waaay slower than fishing in a large body of water.

It's dumb that you can see the bubbles swimming towards your hook and then it turns out to be a saddle. Add "weighted fishing rod", crafted with a rod and an iron ingot, and fish with it in a deep ocean to get treasure. The hook sinks all the way to the bottom, and you get physical jerked around when it's time to reel in, which takes about a second. You can still get fish by fishing with a weighted rod, but they're less likely. "

"Junk" items can still be found normally in the stomachs of caught fish (they are dropped along with the fish item).

    Break AFK fishing

It's so easy. Just rework the right-click priority that allows it.

Zombies should 'roar' when summoning reinforcements.

    Posted: 12 Mar 2020 08:32 AM PDT

As you may or may not know, some Zombies will summon more Zombies when hurt.

Currently, it's hard to notice, and you might even mistake such an occurrence for a bug or glitch.

I propose said Zombies play a 'roar'-like sound when this happens.

Soul Speed keeps your fast pace on non-soul blocks, until your running is interrupted.

    Posted: 12 Mar 2020 08:37 AM PDT

I feel Soul Speed is too specific to the soul sand valley, but what if after gathering up speed on soul sand, you leave soul sand, and keep the full pace until you stop? You'll have to go back to running on soul blocks to gain speed again, so it's not too far removed from its own idea, but it would enable it to be useful outside of that one biome.

Using an enchanted book should give you a regular book back

    Posted: 12 Mar 2020 01:50 AM PDT

When you use an enchanted book in an anvil, the book just disappears, I think it should leave behind an empty book, as if the enchantment has transferred from the book to the item. It would also be nice to get your book back which you can enchant again or use for something else instead of having to make more

    Basalt furnaces

    Posted: 11 Mar 2020 06:03 PM PDT

These would be crafted from basalt of course, and could be used to smelt the nether gold as well as netherrack. This could be crafted with 8 basalt, or with some soul soil. The soil could then make the furnace burn blue when smelting items. This is helpful if you forget cobblestone and don't want to go back to the overworld. Instead, you can just make these furnaces. Also, fuel is available in the nether because of the new wood types, so that wouldn't be an issue for smelting. These may have different functionality and have just cosmetic changes, or the basalt furnaces could have a function where they keep the charge of the fuel from previous smelting. Either way, I think this could be a helpful idea that gives basalt more of a use.

    Soul Speed Rework

    Posted: 12 Mar 2020 12:56 PM PDT

    Suggestion:

In addition to soul speed's current functionality (increased speed on soul sand and soul soil), it should also temporarily increase the player's speed after killing a mob (for a few seconds).

Another layer to it could be that the effect has the ability to stack depending on the level of the enchantment. I.e. if you have soul speed 3, the proposed maximum, it can stack up to three times. Once it has stacked three times, your speed is equivalent to the original effect of walking on soul sand. (Note: the effect of walking on soul sand AND killing an enemy would not stack together).

    Justification:

Although swiftness on soul sand is a previously unattainable ability, I feel the enchantment still isn't useful enough to justify spending the levels and resources to put it on your boots since it probably will only be used in soul sand valleys. This is especially true if the enchantment prevents you from using others (although to my knowledge it doesn't). The functionality I am suggesting will make it more appealing and more useful to use the boots without making the enchantment overpower or detesting from its original feel and utility.
