    Totem of undying improvements

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 05:39 AM PDT

Totems of undying are a magical item that saves you from death. In some cases however, they wont work. Here's a list of improvements for it:

    1. When you die in lava/fire, the totem will give you fire resistance(as it is in bedrock edition)

    2. When you die by drowning, the totem will give you water breathing.

    3. When you fall into the void, the totem will give you levitation V and slow falling.

    4. When you starve, the totem will give you saturation.

    5. When you suffocate, the totem will get you out of the block/wall/whatever you suffocated in(similar to eating a chorus fruit).

    6. The explosion of particles will knock back mobs in case you die to a swarm of them.

Zoglins should spawn in cages inside piglin bastions

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 12:15 PM PDT

Title, as of now they don't spawn anywhere unless you go through the whole nether portal process. it would be fun to to release one and have it rampage through the bastion

The Silica Fields: A New Nether Biome (w/Images!)

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 03:29 PM PDT

The Silica Fields would be a new biome home to Whitestone Speleothems, Charstone Clusters, and Clear Quartz Crystals. Extra descriptions can be found within the imgur links!

    Image of Biome: https://imgur.com/a/M6ZnXvN

The generation of this biome makes heavy use of speleothems. These speleothems spawn from the ceiling and floor of the biome. The opaque speleothems are made of a new block called Whitestone.

    Whitestone and Whitestone Bricks: https://imgur.com/a/MdNqGBJ

The Silica Fields gets its name from the amount of quartz in it. Not only will quartz ore spawn more frequently, but a new block (Clear Quartz Crystals) will spawn!

Charstone is another block that can be found in the Silica Fields. It harms the player like magma blocks, but can also be made into bricks.

Deep Dive: what the New Nether does well, and what could improve

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 11:58 AM PDT

The Nether Update has, so far, greatly improved the dimension to the extent that Nether-only survival worlds are now an option. Almost all of the additions to the dimension have made it more interesting and more useful. In this post, I am going to dive deep into what makes the Nether different from the Overworld in terms of a survival experience.

The New Nether and the way that it has been constructed has led to some very interesting gameplay that you don't see in the Overworld. While the Overworld hands almost everything the player needs to them as soon as they spawn in, the Nether forces the player to explore and be efficient in order to survive.

In the Overworld, survival is never very difficult in the beginning. A player can find everything they need in almost any biome, which is why survival worlds can be created using the Buffet feature. A player can find wool, leather, feathers and food within a hundred blocks of their spawn, and since every biome has the same underground, there is no shortage of iron, stone and diamonds. Survival is easy, if you know what to do.

There's a reason for this. Minecraft in its earliest stages had no biomes. Mobs and resources generated the exact same in any given location. When Notch finally moved to add more variation to the world, he did so without every changing the core gameplay experience, a conscious choice as to not upset the flow of the game. All the ores and mobs were still there, even if things looked a bit different on the surface.

The Nether, on the other hand, was never built for survival. Notch intended it to be a hellish dimension with a multitude of dangerous mobs and challenges for the player to overcome. It was unlivable because that was how it was intended to be.

Come the Nether Update, the Developers decided to change the core nature of the Nether. They were provided, essentially, with a blank slate to alter however they wished. Because no existing infrastructure was in place to make the Nether livable, they had the option to implement these elements however they wished.

As a result, they have created something that is not possible in the current Overworld. Every biome in the Nether is not just useful, but essential to survival.

A player needs three things in order to survive in the Nether: the ability to mine, the ability to eat, and the ability to defend themselves. In the Nether, there are places to find all three of these.

The main source of tools and weapons in Minecraft is wood. In the Nether, this can be found in both Warped and Crimson Forests. Their multitude of 'trees' provides the player with easy access to a crafting table to make wooden tools.

The Warped Forest, while providing as much wood as its crimson variant, has little in the form of food. Crimson forests, on the other hand, house edible Hoglins. However, not only are Hoglins one of the most dangerous mobs in the Nether, but they are joined by Piglins, a common mob that will attack the player on sight. Thankfully, they can be neutralized by wearing gold armor, but Hoglins can never truly be dismissed until the player acquires a shield.

Excluding rotten flesh, mushrooms are the only other edible substance available to the player. While these are sparsely found wherever netherrack touches the air, the main source of mushrooms comes from the Nether Wastes.

If mushrooms are not available, the player will have to get their food from Hoglins. However, even acquiring porkchops isn't enough. Without a furnace to cook the food, the player might find themselves losing more health getting the food than they gain eating it. For this reason players have to seek out yet another biome, the Basalt Deltas. Deltas provide the player with Blackstone, the Nether equivalent of cobblestone, which can be used not just to craft a furnace, but also to make stone tools.

The next step in survival, after food and resources have been secured, is to seek out the next tier of progression, iron. Iron is incredibly sparse in the Nether, and can only be found by trading with Piglins or in Nether Fortresses. The former requires a ton of gold and the latter requires decent equipment. Trading is typically the easier route, but it will require much more time to scour the landscape for ore. Since iron nuggets are a rare drop from Piglins, the player will require stacks upon stacks of gold to fully equip themselves. The most they can expect to get from one barter is 3 ingots. Regardless, iron is necessary to make a shield, which will make Hoglin combat much easier and protect the player from Blazes and Wither Skeletons in Fortresses, which spawn in Nether Wastes and Soulsand Valleys.

The Soulsand Valley is the most dangerous biome in the Nether, and probably the least useful of the lot. If not for its Fortresses, no player would ever need to go there. Unfortunately, Soulsand Valleys are dangerous by proximity due to their high rate of Ghast and Skeleton spawning. The landscape is a mixture of painfully slow soulsand and highly dangerous blue fire which will only pile up in the presence of Ghasts and Blazes. Fortresses that spawn in Soulsand Valleys also tend to have a lot more Wither Skeletons due to the nature of skeleton spawn rates within the biome, so I consider this biome the worst and most hellish of them all.

The Nether is unique in that it makes almost every biome a vital part of survival. Warped Forests for wood and safety, Crimson Forests for wood, food and Piglins, Nether Wastes for food and Fortresses, Basalt Deltas for stone, and Soulsand Valleys for Fortresses and an excuse to rage quit.

If I were to suggest anything for improvement, it would be a way to enchant in the Nether. Enchantment tables require a book to craft and lapis lazuli to operate, two things which aren't available in the Nether. Thus, we need an alternative way to enchant (smithing table, perhaps?). Gold is also the most enchantable material in Minecraft, and it would make sense to have a way to utilize that.

As well, a few more sources of early game food would make the Nether slightly easier. Even if it's a food like rotten flesh that weakens the player while healing them as well, it would be really helpful toward early progression.

Anyway, thank you for reading this deep-dive into the nature of the 1.16 Nether. Despite needing some improvements, I think it's a very interesting experience that will give players a source of fresh, exciting gameplay in the years to come. Thank you Mojang for this wonderful update, and thank you community for encouraging them along the way.

    An annoying slime update...

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 05:58 AM PDT

Slimes can pick up loose items that they jump on but the annoying part would be if you get killed by one it can pick up your stuff and you have to chase it down and kill it to get your stuff back.

You can see your stuff floating inside of it, so you know which one to kill

I don't think magma cubes would do the same thing because they open and close as they jump and they're not transparent

The texture of the logs in Soul Campfires is Warped or Crimson

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 03:55 PM PDT

Currently it is normal, which seems off, with it being very hot Nether fire.

It will be either Warped or Crimson, depending on which is used to craft. You can no longer use logs besides those.

Soul Campfires emit a darker smoke.

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 07:00 AM PDT

Soul Campfires were added in the most recent snapshot, and act as a blue variant of regular campfires.

What I suggest is that soul campfires emit a darker smoke particle due to them using materials sourced in the Nether.

Although there is no 'real' reason that soul soil would emit a darker smoke than coal, I feel as if it would provide builders with more options who use campfire particles in builds.

Nether Winds, dangerous weather in the Nether!

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 04:56 AM PDT

So, cutting to the chase, nether winds are a dangerous weather event that blow through the caverns, adding a new degree of danger to the underworld.

Nether winds come in 3 tiers; Light, moderate and strong. Nether Winds last for 1-3 minutes.

You know a nether wind is starting when the particles in the air begin to move in one direction.

Light: The wind moves somewhat sluggishly, moving only items, but giving entities moving in the wind direction a speed boost and slowing down entities going against it. It also carries elytra in a direction, but they still need to be boosted to stay in the air.

Moderate: The wind picks up, carrying items into the air and starting to move players. Entities are pushed along, but this effect can be stopped by sneaking, standing on soul sand or using a shield. Elytra soar along without needing rockets.

Strong: Now you're in trouble. Items are swept violently away, and entities are carried into the air. Sneaking and shielding still works, but soul sand only stops you from going upwards, you still move along the ground. If you're using Elytra, you get swept through the Nether, rushing through the underworld.

Variants: As per suggested by u/xXnugget25Xx a variant of nether winds are Inferno Winds. During an inferno wind, bits of fire fly through the air, doing damage and rarely setting fire to blocks.

Anyway, that was my idea for Nether Winds. This would add a new challenge to the Nether, and would add easier travel to the nether using Elytra. Please contribute ideas in the comments!

The woodland mansion should have a room with an assembled conduit sans the actual conduit, providing an in game indication on how to build it.

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 11:00 AM PDT

It is currently impossible to figure out that there is an arrangement of prismarine bands needed to activate the conduit. The nether portal can eventually be guessed, as the achievements menu shows obsidian and flint and steel, and the beacon can be guessed from the UI. So, there needs to be some hints on how to build a conduit. Since woodland mansions already have fake end portals, this seems like a good place to put a room filled with water with the prismarine bands inside it. Alternatively, give a hint such as the ones the player gets at the very start of the game when you first craft a conduit.

    Parrot turrets

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 11:56 AM PDT

Parrots have a one slot inventory for seeds which they can use to either heal themselves or spit at enemies. The effect on the enemy depends on the seed.

    • Wheat seeds provide a little knockback and a half-heart of damage. They heal 1HP.
    • Beetroot seeds work like llama spit, they'll deal a heart of damage.
    • Melon seeds work like wheat seeds, but with half as much knockback and fired twice as fast. They heal 1 HP.
    • Pumpkin seeds cannot be shot, but give the parrot 2 HP.
    • Cocoa beans will poison the parrot.

Parrots will search the ground for seeds to pick up to fill their inventory, and will fire them at any hostile mobs within eight blocks. All credit to The Astronomer on the MCS Discord for the joke that spawned this idea.

    Lava Ocean Mod: Snagtooth

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 11:11 AM PDT

The Snagtooth is a hostile mob that combs the depths of lava oceans. It appears is similar of that to an aquatic serpent will charged scales, a long thin body, and a jaw full of razor teeth.

It will hunt down Players and Striders who enter it's territory and similar to dolphins leap out of the lava for a strong bit attack. It's fast and can swim through lava with easy having similar resistance to lava as the Striders it hunts. Because of this Striders will flee whenever the Snagtooth is nearby giving an early warning to anyone nearby, but sadly their usually not quick enough.

When this mob is defeated it has a chance to drop Molten Scales that don't burn similar to Netherite. These scales can be crafted into a pair of boots with fins called Shag Fins. This item when equipped will allow the player to swim through Lava as if it were water, but it doesn't provide fire resistant so be careful

    Wandering Traders should sell mycelium

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 02:43 PM PDT

The main purpose of traders is to sell kinda "rare" and "exotic" items that would be take some time and effort to get otherwise like coral, red sand, saplings, seeds... But what's strange is that they sell almost every single of those items but mycelium. So what I suggest is to simply add it to their trading list, 4 or 5 emeralds for 1 block should be a fair deal considering how easily farmable it is. What do you guys think about it ?

Zombified piglins should have a chance of wielding a crossbow, and piglins with crossbows who turn zombified keep their crossbows.

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 12:22 PM PDT

Currently, zombified piglins can only spawn with gold swords. They can't have crossbows. This means that if a piglin with a crossbow turns zombified, their crossbow is wierdly replaced with a gold sword.

I think that zombified piglins that spawn naturally should have a chance of having a crossbow. It makes sense, since normal piglins have a chance of having crossbows, and it'll prevent that weird quirk I pointed out earlier.

F to move things to off hand

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 07:45 AM PDT

While in your inventory, you should be able to press f while hovering over an item to switch the item with the one in your off-hand. This would match how you can use the numbers for the hotbar, and F is used for moving things to the off hand while out of your inventory. This would just make inventory management easier and more consistent between the controls.

    Copper as a nether ore

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 02:30 PM PDT

My post on minecraft fedback just got removed, because it's "similar" to other posts. The idea is pretty unique so I believe it's just because it has the name "copper" in it. I present to you my post:

Hello everyone, iron is a very important resource in Minecraft, because it's both durable and effective, however there is no iron in the nether. I don't think there should be iron in the nether, but instead a "copper ore" could fill that niche quite nicely while also not being just "another ore". Here's my suggestion:

Copper ore would be rarer than gold and could be found in small ~2-5 netherrack veins and could be mined with a stone pickax. The player could smelt it using a furnace to get copper scraps. Copper scraps, like netherite scraps, could be used with gold to get bronze bars which could be crafted into bronze armor and tools.

Bronze would essentially be strengthened gold. It would give slightly more armor, do slightly more damage, mine slightly faster, but most importantly be more durable. It would still be less durable than iron though. This would make bronze pickaxes, axes, etc. really good and worth to enchant, because they could destroy blocks really fast while also not breaking instantly like gold. Bronze could fill the niche of iron in the nether and be worth mining despite being "inferior" to iron in most cases.

A "bronze block" would be craftable too. It would have a rich brown color. One could also replace the iron from piglins with copper and the one in the nether fortresses with copper/bronze.

    Paintings should be editable.

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 03:20 PM PDT

First off: this would NOT be removing the current paintings. Paintings on default would still randomly generate a picture of one of the current paintings.

You know how the loom works, how it has a simple GUI for editing banners. But what if there was a new block, such as an easel. Personally I don't really care what the block is.

But what the block does is allow users to edit paintings. Paintings (as far as I know) haven't changed much since release. But with this, they shall be modernized and revamped. The block will only work if a painting is put in it, like a banner in a loom. When a painting is recognized, it will open a blank white canvas that has yet to be edited.

On the side you see a color palette of all the dyes. But before editing, you select a size. Once the size is picked, you must put a dye in. You may only paint with a color that you have dye for. I'm thinking 1 dye = 10 or 15 pixels of that color. Then you paint by holding left click on the canvas. Basically just copy MS paint for the painting GUI.

This would replace maps on items frames and make it a lot more accessible and fun to do what maps on item frames make hard.

Any support/ideas in the comments would be appreciated!

    Lava Ocean Update

    Posted: 10 Apr 2020 08:25 AM PDT

With the new Nether Update i think lava oceans deserve update like water ones.

1.Lava will be more transparent ( Less than water )

    Biomes:

    1. Lava Corals- it would have special lava corals which decay outside lava and Coral Striders 2. Deep Lava Ocean- it would be as deep to level 6 and have Hydrothermal Vent that will spread cool particles and can also by smelt to make netherite scrap. Also it would have Lavafish 3.Soul Sea- it would generate near Soul Sand Valley. It floor would be made from soul sand and Nether Fossils will generate too. Lava would be blueish and they will have a Drowned Skeleton with Bone Spear which splint when throwned and have 6 attack damage

    Mobs:

1.Coral Strider- it would be smaller than normal Strider but would be faster and would can shoot poison spikes 2. Lavafish it would attack player and highly damage armor 3.Drowned Skeleton with Bone Spear which splint when throwned and have 6 attack damage

    Blocks:

    1. Strider Eggs- they would generate on the floor of every Lava Ocean except Deep. From them would hatch baby striders. You could obtain them by silk touch and when cooked you would get Cooked Strider Egg which would restore 3 hunger, 3 saturation and would give fire resistance. 2. Blazing Kelp- it would spawn like normal Kelp in every Lava Ocean. In touch with will drag you down and start damaging your armor 3. Lava Corail- they would be 4 diffrent types:
    • Red- From they you could extend fire protection potion
    • Yellow- Near them your possitive effects would end faster
    • Black- Lava around them would be blackish and in this lava you would get wither effect
    • Dark Red- They would have tentacles which would catch you. These tentacles you could add to your sword in the Smithing Table to add durabilty

    Structures:

    1. Lava Ruins- they would generate on the floor of the every Lava Ocean except Deep. They would be made from Crimson or Warped Planks, Nether Bricks or Polished Blackstone Bricks and would contain nether bricks, gold, golden tools, sword and armor and very rarly netherite scraps.
