    Improving Squids

    Posted: 12 May 2020 05:46 AM PDT

I know that this has been posted multiple times now but I have a different Idea on how to do this.

    AI:

Their Ai needs to be improved drastically. This is my concept (visualized):

    if want to move: check:

    1. Block you want to move to is water
    2. Block you want to move to isn't flowing water
    3. Block you want to move to isn't a soulsand water columm
    4. Block you want to move to isn't a magma water columm

These are priorities. It will prefer magma columms over soulsand ones!It should always try to be fully underwater and under y=60 (4 blocks under sea level) They also like beeing deep underwater.

Squids are very intelligent creatures and shouldn't die because of bad AI.

They should also hunt fish and eat them.

you can now breed squids with any type of fish (item or mob)

this means there are now baby squids!

    Spawning

as kind of said before squids like beeing deep underwater. This means higher spawning chance in deep ocean variants (deep_lukewarm_ocean etc.)

So the lower the y-level the higher the spawning chance.

Them spawning in rivers is now way more uncommon

    Drops

so my changes would make existing ink farms less good or even break them. And would make black dye (at least ink) more diffcult to get. So my Idea is that you either get more black dy per ink sack and more ink sacks.

other ideas (not ready thought out)

-Different squid varaint like pandas with different drops, spawning and skin

-squids will pickup dropped fish (items) and breed

-squids can be auto farmed by dispensers with shears

    These ideas are for DISSCUSION

    TL:DR

    -better Ai

    -different spawning

    -breeding

If you downvote please tell my why.

    What do you think?

-about my formatting and the post

    -and the idea?

    Feedback:

    SilverGhost540 had the idea:

maybe they can drop "squid" which can be cooked to get "Calamari"

-Getting food from squids is nice and it would then make more sense to build

    u/Jeli710 said:

We need different species of Squid. The Octopus variant could act very similarly, but be able to change its color depending on where it is in the ocean. The Boltail variant could hang out right at the bottom, barely raising even a few blocks, and at night they could glow. Nautilus would be an extremely rare variant, lives deep in the ocean, amd drops a nautilus shell.

-very good idea just how I imagined different types/skin

Raw Brown and Red Mushrooms should be Edible.

    Posted: 12 May 2020 07:26 AM PDT

Players should be able to eat Mushrooms raw. Though little the hunger points it may restore (2 hunger points/1 hunger icon) and have a small chance of being poisonous, making them edible would be extremely helpful for Miners who get lost in caves, run out of food from the Overworld, and starve to death.

-Red mushrooms can be eaten and has 50% chance to inflict nausea, hunger, or poison effect to the player for 10 seconds.

-Brown mushrooms can be eaten and will not deal any effects.

    • Both will restore 2 hunger points, that's 1 hunger icon.

-They can still be made into mushroom stew which restores more hunger points.

It's strange that the players are able to eat raw meat and even pufferfishes! But not mushrooms. Since Mushrooms grow and generate on small patches of dirt in the dark caves, being able to eat mushrooms without having to turn them into stew would be convenient for players who spend most of their time exploring caves and finding diamonds. This is a cave game after all, so why not make the only vegetation growing in caves edible as they're supposed to be?

Thanks for reading my suggestion, I hope you have a Great and Shroomtastic Day!

Magma Cubes should have a unique interaction with water

    Posted: 12 May 2020 11:27 AM PDT

The other day, I discovered that magma cubes are able to swim in water completely unharmed, which was shocking, as blazes and even striders take damage from water, and although magma cubes could have that same feature, there could be a far more interesting interaction that changes the way you would fight them.

When a magma cube touches snow, water, or ice, it would cause the magma cube to cool off for a period of time, meaning that it's would turn gray, it would stop moving, and it would not hurt the player if touched. How long the magma cube stays frozen for depends on what was used to cool it.

    Snowball: 5 seconds

    Splash water bottle: 15 seconds

Ice and Snow, Forever, as long as it's touching it

Water and rain: Forever, even after the water or rain is gone

While a magma cube is frozen, it can be pushed around like any other entity. The player can also mine cooled magma cubes, which would take less time the smaller the magma cube and the better the pickaxe. When broken, a cooled magma cube drops an amount of basalt based on its size.

    Huge magma cubes: 5-7 basalt

    Medium magma cubes: 2-4 basalt

    Small magma cubes: 0-1 basalt

A cooled magma cube will reheat if it is touching fire, hit by a fireball, or touching lava, but only if it was cooled by snowballs, splash water bottles, snow, or ice. Any cooled magma cube, no matter how it was cooled, can be reheated by right-clicking it with a flint and steel.

Magma cubes have a 5% chance of spawning in cooled, and they would behave like a magma cube cooled by water or rain, where they could only be reheated with a flint and steel.

Finally, to teach players about this mechanic, a new advancement could be added. It would be called, "COOL YOUR JETS!" and the description would read, "Cool down a magma cube with water, snow, or ice."

    Overcast before Rain or Snow

    Posted: 12 May 2020 06:49 AM PDT

I think this should be a good and simple way to make weather foreseeable in Minecraft. Overcast already exists in the game itself but it only occurs in Deserts and other dry biomes. I think it should also occur in other biomes before rain. The sky would turn gray and nothing would change much, the mobs will not burn even in daytime if overcast occurs. It could last 2-4 minutes before rain or snow occurs. This small and simple change in the weather could be useful for Minecraft Farmers out there.

Thanks for reading my suggestion, I wish you a Great and Sunny Day!

[META] Add "Idea already in-game" and "Not a Minecraft Suggestion" as a report reason option?

    Posted: 12 May 2020 09:18 AM PDT

I'm often seeing posts which suggest features that already exist in the game, most likely due to not checking the game. To add to this, you also find a lot of posts that are asking for suggestions about what to do in Minecraft, instead of suggesting a feature, due to misinterpreting the subreddit's definition, as well as the self-promotion types of posts. When I report these types of posts to MCS, I usually go for the "Custom Response" button, but I thought it might be better to have a more consistent option to report these types of posts. I'm thinking something like "Suggestion already in-game" or "Not a Minecraft Suggestion", as I've already put in the title.

However a possible downside could be that they're easy to spot anyway, so perhaps there might not be significance to adding this.

    Thanks for reading!

Firing an arrow onto a bee nest/hive will anger the bees inside

    Posted: 12 May 2020 12:47 AM PDT

This is an interaction shown in the Buzzy Bees trailer, which doesn't exist in the game.

    This basically demonstrates this suggestion.

I've got no idea how to elaborate on this further.

Eyes of Ender should stack to 16, not 64

    Posted: 12 May 2020 07:59 AM PDT

*a similar post was made bu u/celloninja7 about 3 years ago but I feel this should be brought up now.

The Eye of Ender is made using Ender Pearls which stack to 16. So why does the Eye of Ender stack to 64? Doesn't make any sense to me. In my opinion this would be a very small and unnoticeable but logical change.

Zombie Villagers Have a Chance To Drop an Emerald or an Item Related to Their Profession

    Posted: 11 May 2020 07:04 PM PDT

Note: This would only work for Naturally spawned Zombie Villagers otherwise it could be exploited.

I think it makes sense for them to do so. Illagers drop them so why not Zombie Villagers? Surely they would be carrying some stuff around.

Here is what I think each profession should drop (They'd have a 50-50 chance of dropping an emerald or one of the following items).

Armourer - A piece of iron or chain armour, coal or iron ingot

Butcher - Any cooked meat product (Rabbit, Chicken, Porkchop, Beef or Mutton)

Cartographer - Map, item frame or compass

Cleric - Lapis, Redstone, Gold ingot or a Rabbits Foot

    Farmer - Any farmable crop

Fisherman - String, cod or salmon

Fletcher - Stick, feather, arrow or flint

Leather Worker - Leather or a piece of leather armour

    Librarian - Paper or book

Stone Mason - Clay or brick

Shepherd - Any coloured wool, dye or shears

Toolsmith - Stone tool, Iron ingot or coal

Weaponsmith - Iron tool, iron ingot or coal

Trees should be bigger as you go farther in the biome

    Posted: 12 May 2020 06:22 AM PDT

Let me explain. When you enter the biome, trees would be small, like saplings to 3 blocks tall. When you're in the moddle of the biome, trees would all be gants. It could make terrain and forests more realistics

Wither Roses generating in the Soul Sand Valley

    Posted: 12 May 2020 11:17 AM PDT

Wither Roses are really hard to get in large quantities and some players even don't know about it and they are really useful for farms and traps.

I think they should spawn a bit around the soul sand valley, it would make it more rewarding to go there, they shouldn't spawn too often since it would be kinda annoying especially because of all the other dangers around the biome, they should spawn in small patches of 3-4 every once in a while as seen on the picture and the patches sould be very distanced from each other.

It also makes a lot of sense they would be there.

    Please tell me your thoughts.

Soul particles are released when the Wither dies.

    Posted: 12 May 2020 12:48 PM PDT

Since the Wither is built using Soul Sand/Soil, it seems it would make sense. Soul particles similar to the one's freed from Soul blocks when using Soul Speed boots are released in multiple directions when the Wither dies. This would make it more grand and I imagine it would be satisfying to see all those souls pour our of it when it dies. It also sort of tells the player they did a good thing by releasing so many souls.

You shouldn't be allowed to suffocate in bed

    Posted: 12 May 2020 10:35 AM PDT

You are allowed to sleep in a bed with only one block above it, but when you wake up, you stand up and suffocate in the block. This is very annoying and shouldn't be allowed. If there is a block above the bed that would suffocate the player, the bed should generate a warning message like when monsters are nearby or when you are too far away.

Clicking a Note Block with a Sword in Creative Mode

    Posted: 12 May 2020 05:51 AM PDT

Just as the title suggests, a while back swords were changed to be a creative friendly way of left-clicking things, however, they do not work on note blocks.

I only came here to suggest this, because I initially thought it WOULD work, and it didn't.

    Seems like a missed opportunity.

Ambient music for Raids and the Wither.

    Posted: 12 May 2020 01:18 PM PDT

Many don't know this; but the Enderdragon actually has a soundtrack called "Boss", it's quiet, ambient, sad, and unsettling.

The Wither and Raids should also have soundtracks, also ambient, bonus points for an Elder Guardian soundtrack.

The Wither should have an unsettling, quiet, song, maybe with whispers (much like are ambient sound in Soul Sand Valleys) incorporated into it.

Raids should also have a quiet song, with quiet drums and horns incorperated perhaps? I admit I don't know much about music or how to incorporate elements like this into songs. It may be difficult to make an ambient song that's appropriate for Raids, but I hope that Lena, Daniel, Gareth, or any other musicians that might be brought to work for Mojang.

Tridents and axes don't break blocks in Creative Mode.

    Posted: 12 May 2020 01:31 PM PDT

Swords don't break blocks in Creative Mode because it can be annoying when you're trying to kill a mob and accidentally break the terrain around them. Axes and Tridents also shouldn't break blocks in Creative Mode.

    New redstone dust

    Posted: 12 May 2020 12:46 PM PDT

With the new honey block and changes to the redstone dust, I felt like suggesting a new version (It keeps both sets of capabilities)

Redstone paste (This is not the type that was rejected, the rejected type suggested sticky redstone). This doesn't add new content to the game but instead re-adds the functionality the new dust breaks without also removing new machines. It would be crafted via right clicking the dust on water, and could be smelted back into normal dust.

The paste has the same functionality as redstone dust pre-1.16 and has a slight green tint to it

The Pitchfork. An upgraded netherite trident.

    Posted: 12 May 2020 02:06 AM PDT

This isn't really needed, but I think it would be a great addition. Pitchforks would have the exact same functionality as a trident, but with a few extra differences. Obviously, greater durability and damage, just like everything else. Catches any block or entity it hits on fire with it's red-hot tips. Channeling will get an alternative enchantment for pitchforks, called Inferno, since it doesn't rain in the Nether. Channeling will be converted to Inferno when upgrading a trident. Inferno has the same chance levels as Channeling, but rather than summoning lightning, summons either a lava source block, or a 5-5 circle of fire. Riptide will also have a Nether alternative, called Heat Fuel. It's a dangerous enchantment, but it may be worth it to get out of bad situations. If the Pitchfork is thrown while the player is on fire, they will fly in whatever direction they are looking for the entire duration that they are ignited, unless they hit the ground. This goes twice as fast if they are burning from soul fire. If activating an elytra during the time that the player is on fire, the effect will be cancelled. This can also be used to attack ghasts easily, but make sure you won't die when you fall after impact. This enchantment is also automatically replaced. The Pitchfork will not burn in lava, and will be black and grey, with orange where the white usually is.

    A background menu generator.

    Posted: 12 May 2020 04:21 AM PDT

Generating worlds to explore in creative mode is great when i have nothing to do, sometimes i even find gorgeous looking places that i wish i could see everytime i launch minecraft.

It takes time to create a Minecraft Background menu manually, so i'd love to see a way to automatically generate background menus.

Snow should be its own weather

    Posted: 12 May 2020 12:00 PM PDT

This one is very straight forward, snow would rarely occur in all biomes besides the deserts, mushroom islands, and jungles, and would make all natural blocks (grass, podzol, and leaves) have a white tint or be completely white, and mobs like pigs skeletons, creepers, and zombies would all gather snow on them.

    SOUL SKELETON

    Posted: 11 May 2020 07:05 PM PDT

A soul skeleton would be a hybrid of the Stray (snow skeleton) and the blaze. Its would be found in the Soul Sand Valley. It would be on fire like a blaze, but the flames would be blue, like the soul sand fire. it shoots flaming arrows, but again, they are soul fire. they would take damage when thrown a splash potion of fire resistiance. also, if hit with fire aspect, or set alight with normal fire, then it gets the weakness status effect.
