Minecraft Up Up and Update: Sunshine Edition

An entire update suggestion to bless the skies of Minecraft. Yes, this IS at least one update's worth of content. While making this, I was very careful and took great consideration of balance, what would really fit in the game, and what Mojang would reasonably add.

I put a lot of work into this. It isn't another "pls add the aether" post!

Feel free to start from anywhere, Hope you enjoy the Mock-Up-date!

Shackles (kinda like leads but for hostile mobs, villagers, and players)

    Posted: 23 Feb 2019 11:42 AM PST

These would be crafed with iron ingots and nuggets. They can be used on any mob by right clicking them and unlike leads wont break. These would make the mob unable to attack and would have to move with you like a lead. To use it on a player you must shift right click (sneak+ place/use function) on them while they are standing still and they too will be unable to attack and be pulled along with you. Shackles can then be attached to iron bars or fences and wont stretch like leads and instead will give 2 blocks of slack. You can hamg the mib or player from a block in the air and will just hang 2 blocks beneath it. If left hanging long enough the mob/player will slowly take damage but will not take damage if hooked to something 2 blocks above it if it has a block beneath its feet.

[Concept Art] New sign variants: Stone tablets and metal placards

    Posted: 23 Feb 2019 12:10 PM PST

Have you ever been making a build that a wooden sign simply wouldn't fit on? Stone monuments, modern buildings, and grand capitol buildings simply look weird with a crappy wooden sign stuck on them. However, the only signs in the game are made of wood. With the diverse palette of blocks available in Minecraft, there should be more alternatives to signs. Below are the different ideas for sign variants with sample textures to better illustrate the point.

    The Tablet

The first new type of sign would be called a 'tablet'. Crafted out of cobblestone, it would be suitable for monuments, bunkers, prophecies, and anywhere with carved stone. Its use would be identical to the sign, however when placed on the ground the body of the tablet would extend all the way down, similar to a headstone.

    The Placard

The 'placard' would be another variant of sign. It would be craftable out of iron or gold (the iron one is shown in the concept texture) and it would be good for commemorative plaques, more modern buildings, and fancy settings. Its use would be identical to the sign, although when placed on the ground it would have two legs instead of one, like a yard sign.

Thank you for considering my humble suggestion, feel free to suggest feedback additions to the suggestion below.

Holding the sneak and attack should be a kick

    Posted: 23 Feb 2019 10:59 AM PST

This would be for combat or breaking. It would do more damage than a fist and cause a small knock back, but you cant do it as often, it also would do more damage with boots. When used on a block it would be slower except for things like doors, trap doors, glass, ect. Edit: if you dont like the idea please just explain your opinion, honestly I didnt expect to get ANY upvotes so maybe people will like it more than I thought

    Pine Trees!

    Posted: 23 Feb 2019 09:27 AM PST

Right now there are 2 types of Spruce trees which generate in the world. Maybe the trees with high canopies could be Pines and the ones with lower canopies could remain as Spruce trees? We already have the composter, which has a pretty unique color; that could be the color of Pine planks! (my quick recreation of what Taiga with Pine Trees would look like)

    The Nether needs an update

    Posted: 23 Feb 2019 11:36 AM PST

When you think about it, the nether is pretty empty. And I don't mean just structure wise I mean item wise as well. I mean you go to the nether to find a nether fortress, you get some warts, you collect some items so you can make some potions and that's it. In my opinion the player should be given a reason to stay in the nether for longer. Maybe their could be variations of fortresses, some can be more harder to get into. Maybe a new ore, a new mob, biomes, new items to acquire etc.

I would love this option. I have been using Jack o Lanterns under bushes to provide lighting in my new base. The new shears update has made it so I have more seeds than I would ever need so it would be nice to turn them into food!

    Why not birds?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2019 07:13 AM PST

You guys have already created some flying creatures in minecraft, so why not add some birds. They would spawn like any other passive mob and would vary depending on where they are spawned. (Ex. White birds in snow biomes or brown birds in forests) And if you got to close to some, they would fly away. One last thing, they would spawn in flocks because real birds are normally in flocks. The size of the flock would be from 2 to around 6. Hope this is a good idea!

Small features in the Zombie Village

    Posted: 23 Feb 2019 07:49 AM PST

Here's just a bit of a list of small features and tweaks I would make to the zombie villages:

    1. Make zombie horses spawn in zombie village stables (Yeah it's over-suggested to death but I figured I'd put it in anyway)

    2. Make some of the wool in the village destroyed (Like remove a block of wool or 2 from buildings will wool)

    3. Make the farms dry of any water

    4. Small little tombstone structures around the town

(Idk, just adds the spooky tone to it?)

    1. Collapsed structures

(This May be a big one, but some buildings should look like they collapsed from years of neglect and rotting)

    1. Vines on buildings

(Not sure if this is a feature already)

    1. Empty cauldrons at tanneries and other buildings with cauldrons

    2. Any trees that spawn with the village should be void of any leaves

(Make the village feel neglected and more sinister)

These would just be more for aesthetic reasons. Not really for big use reasons.

    The whip

    Posted: 23 Feb 2019 11:27 AM PST

This would be crafted from 2 lead and a stick diagonally. It would be a longer range weapon that does probably 3 damage but you can add 2 iron nuggets to the whip in a crafting table to do more.

Setting A Grass block on fire turns it into a path block.

    Posted: 23 Feb 2019 11:17 AM PST

Setting A Grass block on fire turns it into a path block. I think this would be a small detail that would make forest fires look more deadly.

Foxes should be tameable through selective breeding!

    Posted: 23 Feb 2019 07:55 AM PST

You should be able to tame foxes through selective breeding of the ones least scared of players! Similar to the russian domesticated foxes experiment. Minecraft is a great teaching platform and this would be a really good way to teach kids (and grown ups alike, why not!) about domestication and evolution.

I commented this suggestion when foxes were first introduced, but now AntVenom made a great video about pretty much the same idea, so I recommend watching it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVb7LtSueAo

    The golden seal

    Posted: 23 Feb 2019 02:06 PM PST

For this post I used flameoguy's idea for stone tablets with his permition, so please go check out his post here

Use- The golden seal is placed ontop of an active beacon to create area restrictions. Once placed ontop of a beacon right click to get a GUI with several slots. Putting certain items in these slots will create restrictions for the entire area the beacon covers. Sword= no combat Pickaxe= no breaking Creeper head= no mob spawning Instant health potion= no healing

Crafting- This would be crafted like bellow (st=stone tablet. gp=golden preasure plate. be=bottle o enchanting)

    [ ] [be] [ ]

    [ ] [st] [ ]

    [ ] [gp] [ ]

Dear Mojang: Red Sand smelted should make dark green stained glass

    Posted: 22 Feb 2019 04:19 PM PST

I mean, I'm lying in my bed, almost 2 am, I'm watching How To Make Everything on YouTube, I see in his videos how gets frustrated by making green glass instead of clear because of iron impurities in the sand. Then I see him salvaging iron oxide sand for another video project. And I was all like: "Yo, that looks like Red Sand in Minecraft". Giving a more technical analysis to this, sand usually turns green green because of iron or chromium impurities in sand and because of sulfur which gets to the sand through the combustion process of the fire. It's 2 am now as I'm writing this and I think that I got pretty swell hook on some logic here. The funny part is that I don't even play Minecraft. I don't have an account (though I used to play on my friends account 6 years ago), but not like I could even run it (my laptop only supports OpenGL 2.X with no chance of an update to the graphics chipset driver) and blam, this idea pops to my head. Yeah so red sand smelted should make dark green stained glass imo

    A Complete Trident Overhaul!

    Posted: 23 Feb 2019 02:13 PM PST

Tridents are a very versatile weapon. They can be effectively used in Travel, Combat (Like I proved in my post Discovered a very deadly Trident Attack!) and lots more. The problem is that, as Cubey proved, aen't much better than a Diamond Sword. The Diamond Sword has better durability, enchantments, damage output (Because it has a faster attack speed) etc. In this post I will show ways to improve the Trident.

    Damage and Attack Speed

The Trident shouldn't really have more damage. If its Melee Damage is increased by just half a Damage Point, it will become a Two-Hit Weapon on most unarmored players and mobs. As Polearms were effective in combat in reality, I feel that the Attack Speed should be increased to 1.3 to 1.6. The Trident should also be able to hit further than a sword, maybe a few blocks longer than a sword.

    Enchantments and Durability

The Trident's durability feels off. I don't think it should be on par with an Iron Sword. Instead, I think it should be somewhere in the thousands. Not the same as a Diamond Sword, but near it. Maybe around 1000-1300 Durability?

Enchantments are also a problem. All the current Enchantments are good, but the problem is that 3 out of the 4 Enchantments can only be used under specific circumstances. The Trident needs to have more Enchantments that can apply to all circumstances. I already posted something on Trident Enchantments in this post, so I'll share my idea for my favorite Enchantment I had in that post.

This Enchantment would be called Coral Corruption and have 2 Levels. What it does is when attacking in either Melee or Ranged, the hit mob/player will get a Debuff named "Coral Corruption" for 5 seconds. On Level 2, it will deal more damage and last for 10 seconds instead of 5. The debuff will act similarly to the Withering Effect, or a faster but weaker version of the Conduit's Hostile Mob Attack, dealing a bit of damage every second. Armor would actually affect how effective this is, but Protection would not. This Enchantment would give the Trident a new Item Sprite and Model, showing Coral growing on the Trident.

    Obtaining the Trident

Similarly to SimplySarc, I dislike the fact that Tridents are dropped by just a Zombie Variant, not to mention that they're extremely hard to fight when they DO have a Trident. What I think is: The Trident will be found in Ocean Monuments every time, Buried Treasure 9.5% of the time, and Shipwrecks and Ocean Ruins 1.5% of the time. When found in an Ocean Monument, however, each piece will not be dropped by each Elder Guardian: It would be found in a chest inside the Monument. It would have a 5-10% Chance of being Enchanted in every one of these ways.

TL;DR, The Trident is good but not much better than a Diamond Sword and I list ways to improve it.

Now I want to know what YOU think. I will be posting this on the Feedback Site soon, but as we wait, How should this post be improved? Do you appeal to it? Do you have questions or concerns? Do you hate it? Please comment down below!

    The Elder Ravager

    Posted: 23 Feb 2019 01:43 PM PST

This post contains a new miniboss idea for the overworld aswell as a new structure to house it. Please share any ideas and opinions in the comments and if you like it than make sure to upvote. (Also, I call it a miniboss throughout the post though it might be considered boss)

New boss- This is what the entire post revolves around so you need to hear this first. This new miniboss would be like the Elder Gardian of Ravagers. It would be bigger and stronger and have a new texter with a duller color scheme. The Elder Ravager will have 300 hp

New structure- This structer (The Elder's Cave) will be the home of this new miniboss. Its a above ground cave entrance sloping down into a large open cave. This structure will spawn in biomes like gravelly hills.

The fight- This fight is going to be difficult and in the limited space of the cave. Sheilds will definatly help because it will charge at you, though arrows dont do much. The Elder Ravager also shares the scream ability but to a greater extent. When used the ability will knock you back and cause gravel to fall from the ceiling.

Custom "Options Menu" Backgrounds/Overlays for Resource Packs

    Posted: 23 Feb 2019 01:26 PM PST

Before you go in the comments and say " OH THERE ALREADY IS, ITS THE DIRT TEXTURE YOU CAN EDIT!", hear me out. I loveeeee old versions of Minecraft. Infact im creating a resource pack based on those versions called "PreJava". And in the version "in-20100201-2" is when the title screen and the options menu was first added to the game. While the background was scrolling dirt blocks, this was the options menu:

    https://i.imgur.com/Uls9yPk.png

Instead of just plain dirt blocks like the title screen, it was its own texture. A gradient in fact! I know many people might not be as fond as i am about this sort of change, but think aboutit like this: If you could change the options menu to any picture you want instead of a limited, grid compilation of a simple block, would you do it? I sure would!

So if i wanted it in, how would it even work? the most logical thing that might come to mind is the same grid system, except of the new picture. But i have a better idea. Resource packs contain the "gui/title/background" folder for the panorama the game uses in the title screen. What i found to be super cool, is that you can replace the background to a 2d image of anything you want by naming the picture "panorama_overlay". Mind you this is only for the title screen at the moment.

If the menus could have the same overlay system as the title screen background, I'm sure many resource pack creators would be very happy. Personally, I'm not too happy with how limited the options menu is now.

Good job if you managed to read all this. and thanks if you support my idea.

    Mushroom ideas

    Posted: 22 Feb 2019 06:08 PM PST

In the 1.14 snapshots, Mojang added the wither rose, corn flower and lily of the valley. They are pretty neat flowers, but there are already like, 19 flowers in the game, but only 2 mushrooms (4 if you count giant ones)

    White Mushroom

These mushrooms were inspired by White Button Mushrooms, they grow in clusters, and they are white (duh)

    1. you can put 5 white mushrooms into one single block, like sea pickles, but instead of 4, its 5
    2. They can be eaten raw are cooked, raw white mushrooms give you almost no saturation and only half a shank, but it can be eaten in one gulp; cooked white mushrooms give you 1 shank but it gives you 6 saturation points, same with a baked potato
    3. while spreading around, they will also add more mushrooms to their own clusters if there is less then 5 in one single block

    withered mushroom

withered mushrooms only generate in the Nether, they are a poisonous type

    1. they give the wither effect when eaten, like spider eyes but more deadly
    2. they can be brewed into potions of decaying, which gives the victim the wither effect
    3. they spawn rarely in patches of 4-6 around the Nether, like wild pumpkins, but not as rare

    glow-shroom / glowing mushroom

only generates in roofed forest biomes, they are pretty blue mushrooms, there can't be eaten

    1. these mushrooms generate a light level of 5 enough for monsters to spawn
    2. they spread REALLY slowly, and they stop after there are more than 3 glowing mushrooms nearby
    3. they aren't dangerous themselves but they attract hostile monsters. If you want this mushroom in your house/base as decoration, you better get it quickly
    4. wandering traders sometimes trade for those

    tropical mushrooms

they are like tropical fish, they have colour combinations for their spots, stem size and cap colour

    1. their cap could be red, blue, yellow and very rarely, pink
    2. spots could be green, black, purple and blue
    3. they can by big, normal or small. Small is like one single white mushroom, normal is like the mushrooms we have now, big mushrooms are almost one full block big
    4. They generate in abundance on mushroom islands, and sometimes in groups in normal biomes

    All mushrooms

    1. mooshrooms sometimes eat mushrooms
    2. big tropical mushrooms don't pop out of the ground in high light levels, but they don't spread

NOTE: I am still learning English, so sorry if there is bad grammar

Note 2: I don't know which flair is the best for this, so I chose blocks and items
