[Brainstorm] Top Monthly Suggestions For April 2019! This Month's Theme is "Nether"!

    Posted: 16 May 2019 08:09 AM PDT

Your monthly reminder that yes, there are suggestions that do get over 100 upvotes from the Minecraft Community. Truly crazy, innit?

In this post are showcased all the suggestions for the past month that have achieved an upvote notoriety beyond 100, as well as the 10 closest stragglers that were just shy of making the choice 3-digit beauty mark.

(Clears throat, opens mouth, is immediately pelted with a pie.)

    sighs

Okay okay, we get it. We're late.

    Again.......

However, we have a plan this time! Since this TMS report is so late, and since this feedback theme wasn't actually provided by Mojang (we had to think of one ourselves since there wasn't an official theme given), we're not keeping this one up for very long, only until the end of the month. What does this mean in the long-term? It means that we can finally get back on track with these reports and put them in the beginning of the month, rather than the middle. You know, how it's supposed to be.

With any luck that plan will actually work for once.

SOOOOO, ANYWAYS... this month we've got a good show to put on for you folks, in the form of 42 Beautiful Suggestions, with 17 of them being super Luminous 200+, with 6 as Enlightened 300+, & even 5 reaching above 400 to the unprecedented level of ASCENDED! Not quite as many as March, but clearly a lot more higher-leveled ones, which in my books balances things out nicely! :)

And here's a look into what type of suggestions we have here today:

    • Gameplay: 2
    • AI Behavior: 1
    • Blocks & Items: 7
    • Mobs: 6
    • Plants & Food: 1
    • Sounds: 2
    • Terrain: 1
    • Magic: 1
    • Structures: 7
    • Combat: 1
    • Controls: 2
    • Redstone: 1
    • User interface: 0
    • General: 8
    • Weather: 0
    • Commands: 1
    • [META]: 0

Well, it seems General, Structures, and Blocks and Items were the most popular topics to suggest about this month, and Terrain, Magic, and Redstone were the least suggested. I guess the recent 1.14 update with all its crazy new blocks and general gameplay features really showed people just how cool those things really are! As a builder, I love seeing a lot of the new block suggestions! :D

    THEME: Nether

(Ensure that Mojang hears you by amplifying your voices with Ghast lungs! ...Or something, I don't know!)
Every month, we ask the community for suggestions on a specific theme so we can all brainstorm together. This month's theme is "Nether"! Please use the comments & give all your ideas, big or small, that have to do with the Nether! Do you guys want massive obsidian spires reaching out of the lava? Or perhaps a new dungeon to loot? Oooo, how about a special new giant mushroom that generates on soul sand? The choice is yours! (Just no pigmen villages or friendly pigmen please, those are rejected.)
We're looking forward to seeing your ideas!

    IN OTHER NEWS:

April was a slow month for us in terms of news, but we do have one major thing to announce: our Discord server is partnering with the r/MinecraftAbnormals Discord server! Get ready for lots of cool brainstorming sessions, bigger/better ideas, and maybe, just maybe...a podcast or two! Or more! ;)

Stay tuned for more info on this! Lots of good stuff coming our way soon(tm)!

We'd also like to remind everyone to please read over the FPS list before making any suggestions, just to be sure that you're idea hasn't already been covered.

Also, if you have a Discord account, we'd also like to invite you over to our official MCS Discord server if you ever feel like doing some real-time brainstorming. Or, you know, just put up some memes, we have those too (just keep them SFW). ;)

[Slowing down on suggestions doesn't necessarily mean that the subreddit is dead! Sometimes people just need a break and require some relaxation in order to get their creative juices flowing again. My advice: take a walk, read a book, or watch a few good films. Take in everything you see or read, and try to imagine them in Minecraft. It's helped me a lot. And remember to stay positive and to stay beautiful! :)]
    KEEP IT UP, FELLOW SUGGESTIONERS!

<>If there was a suggestion that was missed, please let us know below. Despite our best efforts, we haven't yet reached infallible perfection just yet (we're still trying, impossible as it might be), so some mistakes are still within the realm of possibility.<>

♦ Beautiful Suggestions 100 and Beyond:
    ============================

    ♦ Honorable 10 Suggestions:
    =====================

<> All Monthly Suggestion Posts are cataloged on the subreddit's TMS Catalog Wikipage.<>

Note: The comments are not for posing ideas unless they pertain to the feedback theme. If an idea crops up in a discussion, then that's fine, but for posting a suggestion for the community and the developers, that is what the "submit" button at the top right is for.

Also also, you can eyeball some suggestions that have actually been implemented on the Successful Suggestions Wikipage! Maybe one of these will make it on there someday! If you have a suggestion from 1.14 that actually has been implemented in some form or another, please let us know so that we can update the list. Thanks!

Until next time folks, have a fantastic day/night, and take care! :D

The Mammoth Spider - A Bulldozing Miniboss (+ Community Discussion Prompt!)

    Posted: 16 May 2019 08:09 AM PDT

    Meet the Mammoth Spider

This beastly mom is a Miniboss spawned by giving a spider 150 points aka 10 levels of EXP (I'll explain later). It can also spawn naturally at the center of abandoned Mineshafts. The spider attacks in a few different ways using both it's massive jaws and it's ability to spit spider eggs at you.

    Behavior

    • It will dig and eat blocks.
It will only do this if it's trapped and can't move. It can't eat through bedrock or obsidian though. If left idle for long enough, the Mammoth Spider will dig itself a hole and sleep until woken up again. Technically making itself a dungeon.

    • It will periodically spit up egg pouches.
When they hit the ground or a player, they explode and summon 1-3 baby spiders (Sometimes a cave spider too). These tiny versions of the normal spiders have very little health and don't deal any damage. But they grow up in 60 seconds and you'll have a bigger problem on your hands.

    • It has a massive bite.
When in biting range, the Mammoth Spider will widen its jaws and snap them shut every 5 seconds. This attack deals 6 hearts of difficulty on normal. It's a risk getting those melee hits in and dodging the jaws.

    • It can spawn Wrappeds.
When a spider egg hits a zombie, it immediately turns into a Wrapped. Just a little extra challenge from adding zombies to the mix.

    Drops and Rewards

When the Mammoth spider is killed, you get back 550 points or 20 levels of EXP. That's another 10 on what you invested. You will also get 10-20 Spider Pouches.

    • Throwing on Its Own
Spider punches aren't very useful when thrown on their own. They function just like the Mammoth Spider's projectiles. They spawn baby spiders that grow up soon thereafter. The difference is that when you throw them, they will attack anything.

    • Webbed Fireworks
Craft Spider Pouches into your fireworks and shoot them from your crossbow. They will place webs where ever they explode. The amount of pouches you use determines how many webs are places. The webs will decay after several seconds. Good for capturing running targets!

    • Explosive Spider Nest
Craft 8 spider pouches with 1 TNT to get the Explosive Spider Nest. It acts just like TNT, but when it explodes, it replaces the blocks it's destroyed with permanent cobwebs. And it spawns 20 baby spiders.

    Reddit/Discord Discussion

So the Mammoth Spider is just a simple mini-boss with a small reward. But this boss was made using a prompt that I thought of a few days ago. And I reckon its a good topic point for some quality talk and brainstorm for the community.

    Suggestion Prompt

Every mob in Minecraft spawns with a 10% chance of being able to pick up EXP like the player. The more they pick up, the stronger they become. But if they collect a certain amount of EXP, they will transform into a beastly version of themselves. When killed, you'll get a full return of your exp plus an extra reward. So pick a mob! What does it evolve into? What does it do? Is it a friend or a foe?

If you have some ideas, you can start engaging here or on the Minecraft Suggestions Discord Server. I hope you guys come up with some really good ideas.

    Chickens should molt

This would be useful for feathers. So you don't need to kill any chickens.

[Combat] Explosions should disable the shield for 2 seconds

    Posted: 16 May 2019 11:09 AM PDT

Explosions should disable the shield for 2 seconds. This would mean if you decide to tank a creeper explosion, it will leave you vulnerable to other attacks for 2 seconds.

I think this would be a good small nerf/balance change.

if lightning strikes while the player is falling asleep, it should have a small chance to wake them up.

    Posted: 16 May 2019 09:22 AM PDT

and dogs should stand if sitting and start barking as well, and cats should run around in circles. Since the developers seem to like adding small details like this, figured it wouldn't hurt.

    Quartz Dungeon

    Posted: 16 May 2019 12:29 PM PDT

    Quartz Dungeon

This is a rare dungeon that can be found in the Nether. It's a very simple structure that is made of various quartz blocks with a wither skeleton skull in the middle. But you might have to fight some blazes in order to get to it.

But that might not be such a bad thing since it would allow the player to set up a blaze grinder that is not linked in the nether fortress.

I would suggest for it to be as rare as finding a fossil in desert and swamps.

Here is some images of what the structure may look like: https://imgur.com/a/6sLJ2Qg

But besides that, this is something that mojang might do. But I would like a much bigger variant with new blocks and mobs in the scale of a nether fortress but bigger.

    Scarycrow - Miniboss Idea

    Posted: 16 May 2019 02:40 PM PDT

See a cute parrot? Feed it a Wither Rose to turn it into the Scarycrow.
This miniboss has 70 hearts, so it's not that strong.

    ATTACKS
Alright, first, it will peck at you. Yeah. Thats it. A peck does a heart and a half with no armor, so its not that

strong of attack. Next, it will spit poisonous seeds. They will do 1 heart with 7 seconds of poison II, remember,

this is supposed to be a easy boss, but this is where it gets tough. This next attack is very deadly. It will turn all nature (leaves, vines, flowers, grass, etc) around the player into Wither Roses or Wither Bushes. Finally, it will summon in hostile parrots (1-3) at given times. It can also summon Phantoms at night.

    BEHAVIOR
It will heal 2 hearts every 10 seconds, it can heal up to 50 hearts, (again, this is supposed to be an easy boss.)
It will eat Wither Roses and Wither Bushes (not the ones they summon of course.) to gain 2 hearts and a small increase in

speed and damage. They will attack other parrots (other than its summoned minions) and damage them in any way. It will also eat seeds to heal half a heart. They will sleep after 2 in-game days of no combat with other parrots or the player (anything really.) It heals while its sleeping and can take alot of damage when sleeping, but it will awake when hit. The player can tame a Scarycrow by giving it a stack of Wither Roses (or 64 Wither Bushes) while its attacking the player, a tamed Scarycrow acts like a normal tamed parrot, but it will spit seeds at anything who dares to lay a finger on its owner.

1.15 Idea: Illusioners finally sneak in

    Posted: 16 May 2019 03:32 PM PDT

Although the Illusioner didn't get in 1.14(Thanks a lot Cory), 1.15 gives them another chance, they can be a mob for players to fight against in the combat update V2. I'd like for their weapon to change to the crossbow or something else. If they get a crossbow, they can be like a Pillager, but on their own, and with tricks up their sleeves. What do you think? Also, does anybody know why Illusioner's did not get in 1.14? I wonder why...

Giving gifts to villagers for increased village popularity

    Posted: 16 May 2019 06:08 AM PDT

I am aware that I am a bit late to 1.14, but I just wanted to throw this idea out and see how you'll react

When opening a villager's GUI, there could be another tab for donations/gifts, you have gift villagers free items in exchange for some village popularity. Each profession has different values for different gifts.

Gifts come in 3 tiers: nice, good, and useful

the higher (highest tier is useful) the tier, the better that villager gossips about you.

    Farmers

these are gifts that farmer villagers accept

    1. emerald (good)
    2. bonemeal (nice)
    3. Any food they farm (nice)
    4. golden carrot (useful)

    Fishermen

    1. emerald (good)
    2. fishing rod (based on durability and if it is enchanted)
    3. any type of fish, excluding pufferfish (nice)

    Shepherd

    1. string (nice)
    2. any wool (good)
    3. emerald (good)
    4. shears (depends on durability and enchantments)

    Armorer

    1. emerald (good)
    2. iron ingot (nice)
    3. iron block (good)
    4. diamond (useful)

These are some examples, may or may not create a second post

Rain should be calming unless there's a thunderstorm.

    Posted: 16 May 2019 03:06 PM PDT

Right now, all rain is fast, loud, and drops with so many bits of rain at a time. I think this should be kept for thunderstorms where the rain is supposed to be aggressive, but other than that, I'd like calming rain - less loud, less frequent in particles, and not as many bits of rain per stretch of texture (essentially, less rain, but with the same effect of "hey, it's raining"). It would act just like rain does now, but it would be so much more calm. Take a note from Terraria - whenever it's raining, you feel... different. When it rains in Minecraft, you just feel annoyed. If Minecraft is getting all of these overworld updates slowly, I think it would be important to take note of what's coming out of the sky - and I don't mean phantoms. TL;DR, calm rain would be nice in Minecraft.

The sound made from walking on grass should sound squishy and wet for a few moments after swimming

    Posted: 16 May 2019 12:53 AM PDT

When ice melts, you should be able to see vapour particles rising from the block

    Posted: 15 May 2019 09:07 PM PDT

Gives more realism and impression, but should be able to be turned off.

Only happens in humid biomes, like jungles, and warm oceans.

Enchantment colors depend on the enchantment’s effects

    Posted: 16 May 2019 01:56 PM PDT

Beneficial enchantments could give a blue glow, curses could give it a red glow, and "enchants" (such as the Nether Star) could give off a white glow. Maybe if there are curses and beneficial enchantments applied, then it could glow purple to signify the mixture?

    Posted: 16 May 2019 11:12 AM PDT

Some people enjoy the music a little TOO much. I'm guilty. Instead of having just music volume, there should be a frequency slider to how often you hear music in the game, for some who really like the Minecraft music, or some who enjoy it only some of the time

    Flowering deserts

    Posted: 16 May 2019 01:04 AM PDT

Based off of the real-life Atacama Desert (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flowering_desert), this would be a ludicrously rare desert biome with flowers that only grow in said biome. These flowers would (obviously) grow on sand, but can also be placed on grass/dirt if the player so chooses to.

Minecraft Java Edition should go open source

    Posted: 15 May 2019 04:29 PM PDT

This is something I started thinking about as soon as Minecraft 1.14 got released. It was one of the most unstable releases of the game, with performance issues so bad they made the game nearly unplayable. When 1.14.1 got released, some of the biggest performance issues were mostly addressed, however it also introduced game-breaking bugs.

Minecraft is a MASSIVE game. It's the result of 10 years worth of accumulated features... and bugs.

Adding content to the game without breaking a lot of things in the process is a huge undertaking for such a small team of developers.

If Minecraft was open source, thousands of experienced programmers could help Mojang find and fix bugs. This has the potential to improve the quality of the game astronomically.

TL;DR: Java Edition should be open source so the community could help Mojang fix bugs much more quickly.

    "Condition" setting for command blocks.

    Posted: 16 May 2019 09:05 AM PDT

Currently, command blocks have a setting called "conditional" You set this to true or false, if it's false the block will run regardless of the state of the previous block in the chain. If it's true, it will only run if the previous block returns true. There should be a new setting that changes the condition. So you could set the block to activate only if the previous one is false.

    Bouncy Target (Ricochets arrows)

    Posted: 16 May 2019 07:22 AM PDT

'Bouncy Target' is a new placeable item/block.

When you shoot it, your arrow ricochets and bounces in the opposite direction, and gains some momentum.

It can be oriented in many different angles. Horizontally it can be angled to either face directly forward, or at an angle to the left or right. It depends where you standing and looking at, like with stair blocks. Vertically it can only face directly up and down.

When powered with redstone, it will change where it's facing, and when repeatedly triggered, it goes through all the possible angles one by one.

Use: I came up with this idea to use it for cool puzzles, mini games, target practice and redstone stuff.

It's like that classic 'mirror reflecting light' type puzzle common in puzzle games.

    Ice Chest (and Food Rot.)

    Posted: 16 May 2019 02:51 PM PDT

Alright, so food should rot after around 10 in-game days, into, well, Rot. Rot should be used as a fertilizer, but when eaten, you'll get nausea, poisoned, and you'll feel slow and heavy. Don't eat it. But, a saving grace to food is the Ice Chest. Crafting with 8 Ice, Packed Ice, Blue Ice, or Snow. This will make food rot in 100 in-game days! But some food, like Dried Kelp shouldn't be able to rot, so its a bonus to making the food (speaking of Dried Kelp, make it give you 1 hunger bar instead of half like huh-) I feel like features like this should be added into out beautiful blocky world, to make it a little more challenging.
