We need a rail travel overhaul

    Posted: 24 Jun 2019 01:19 PM PDT

As it stands, rail travel is the worst form of travel in the game. To travel far distances, elytra, nether portals, and even horses are a much better alternative to rails. Even if you lay out your powered rails in a conservative manner, because making a train track is so darn expensive, it's hardly faster than running. All of this is very unfortunate, because I love the idea of taking a railroad somewhere and seeing your world as you travel somewhere, and right now the only practical use for rails and minecarts are some Redstone machines. I think in this Age of Reform in Minecraft, rails should be a priority to fix. So, here are some suggestions to make rail travel more viable.

    1. Make rails cheaper! Even if every craft makes several rails, a long railway is going to take stacks and stacks of iron, redstone, and gold, and that's just not worth it compared to the other travel option. Maybe have each craft make even more rails.
    2. Make rails faster! Even if you have an extremely expensive all powered rail line, it's still not ridiculously fast or anything. Increasing the speed could either be through simply making powered rails more effective or adding something similar to the furnace minecart that connects to a regular minecart that uses fuel to move crazy fast. This can be used with chest minecarts and possibly hopper minecarts
    3. Make rails more convenient! I know rails are pretty simple as they are, but just improve the quality of life while using them. Change how minecarts mess up when the chunks unload for instance. Maybe also make switching rails to diverge tracks in different directions.

One cool integration I thought these improved rails could have would be adding a train station to villages, and some villages would even have rails connecting to other villages like in old westerns.

I sincerely believe that there's a lot of possibilities for cool builds like bridges over canyons or changing villages into western towns, but nobody wants to do anything with rails right now because they stink (and have very little practical use)! With these improvements may bring about an update of abandoned mineshafts because, as Mumbo Jumbo said in one of his recent videos, those things are pretty dated looking. And, with these new features, comes new redstone possibilities.

Thanks for reading, feedback would be appreciated, especially any new suggestions!

P.S. I had a hard time picking a flair. This could also be under 'redstone' or 'structures'.

Baby mobs have less health and do less damage (if applicable) than their adult counterparts

    Posted: 24 Jun 2019 12:25 AM PDT

Both a quality of life and balance change. Why should a baby zombie be equal as an adult zombie except smaller and faster? This applies to other hostile mobs as well. Baby animals will have less health to be more vulnerable. Opinions?

    Seagulls

    Posted: 24 Jun 2019 06:36 AM PDT

Other than phantoms we don't have many flying mobs. I think seagulls would really spice up beaches and ocean themed builds like docks

Seagulls would be neutral mobs that spawn only near oceans in big groups. They glide around in circles similar to phantoms when in the air, and can also glide along the surface of the water. They obviously gawk like real seagulls, making the oceans more atmospheric. These guys will sometimes dive into the ocean and grab a fish to eat. When they are on the ground, they just sort of walk around near the ocean. These birds will also make nests for their eggs on rocks/trees, similar to turtles. At night, they will fly to a nest and go into a sleeping position.

When attacked, they gawk and fly off.

When killed they drop 1-2 feathers. On a rare occasion, they will drop one raw cod.

They would have a flying animation in which they flap their wings a few times to go up/take off. They will also flap their wings when they land/ and then take a walking position.

They will spawn and fly around shipwrecks near the surface, and other ocean ruins near the surface, making them a helpful indicator when searching for treasure.

    Guardians eye and Guarding Block

    Posted: 24 Jun 2019 12:18 PM PDT

When killed, a guardian has a 10% chance of dropping a Guardians eye.

Using 4 Prismarine blocks, 4 sea lanterns, and 1 Guardians eye, you can craft a Guarding Block.

This block looks similiar to a Prismarine block, but it has small sea lanters on each side, and an eye, similiar to a guardians eye, moving between the lanterns.

The block will fire a laser like a guardian, at anything that's hostile torwards the placer of the block. It can shoot trough glass blocks, and the laser will change colour if the glass is stained.

If there is a redstone input going into the block, it will shoot into the opposite direction non-stop. When powered by the input, the block can be clicked to switch between damaging, and not damaging.

In order to collect a placed Guarding Block, you have to use an iron or diamond pickaxe.

    New weapon---Cleaver

    Posted: 24 Jun 2019 06:03 AM PDT

Cleavers would be a new weapon mainly used for combat. It is crafted using 4 mineral/materials and 2 sticks

    Example of iron cleaver:

iron ingot iron ingot iron ingot
    stick iron ingot
    stick

    Attacking

unlike swords, a 180 degrees swipe attack would always be used, no matter if yours falling/running/swimming, etc. The overall damage of cleaves would be lower than swords, but cleavers can be used for a better crowd control weapon.

    Comparison: (1 hp = half a heart)

    Material: Swords Cleavers
    Wooden 4 hp 3 hp
    Stone 5 hp 4 hp
    iron 6 hp 5 hp
    gold 4 hp 4 hp
    diamond 7 hp 6 hp

    Enchantments

Strikethrough I---has a 5% chance of ignoring 20% armor and shields

Strikethrough II---has a 15% chance of ignoring 30% armor and shields

Strikethrough III---Ignores 30% armor and shields

Armor should appear broken down when it is almost out of durability

    Posted: 24 Jun 2019 05:46 AM PDT

Similar to elytras, armor when it's being worn or simply just held as an item, it has holes in it when the durability is really low.

You should be able to fish up more things.

    Posted: 24 Jun 2019 11:12 AM PDT

Alright, so fishing up only fish most of the time makes no sense. Fishing for a while gets you more fish than fishing twice. That makes no sense. So here are some things you should be able to fish up:

Leather and chain mail armor, because nobody really crafts leather, because in early game you don't have a lot and your going to get full iron in 10-12 minutes. So fishing it up would honestly be good. Also you can't get chainmail in game, so that's that.

Fishbones, so this is just a item idea. You can get fishbones from fishing or eating fish (not guaranteed, and you can't get them from pufferfish.) Putting them in a crafting table gives you 3 bones.

Garbage items. Some times you don't get lucky when you fish, so that should be reflected in Minecraft. Sticks, glass, cobblestone, leather, seeds, etc.

Books. Fishing up books and messages are in a lot of movies. And especially the "note in the bottle" thing. Fishing up books with funny stories in them like "Today I woke up, ate breakfast and went back to sleep." Or just something stupidly funny would be really cool to see.

Note in a bottle. I know I mentioned it already, but why not. A note in a bottle, when right clicked, will give you a bottle and Paper, a treasure map, a map, or a empty map.

Packages. They're kind of like shulker boxes but you can only store 4 items in them. Fishing one up will give you 2-4 random items you get from fishing. You craft them with 1 string, 2 paper, and 2 wood planks.

Gold. People throw pennies and dollars into wells and fountains, but now people do that with any water source. Also you find gold by panning the water. So you should be able to fish up gold nuggets, gold ingots, and gold ore.

Swordfish. You can eat them and cook them like other fish, But hitting a mob with it will do +5 damage. This thing is a stone sword and your food in one. Amazing!

Drowned. Fishing up a drowned would keep you on your toes and would be really surprising. You could also doing really good trolls with them.

Prismarine shards. What more do I have to say?

Crown of the Sea. This is a crown that is obtained by fishing or can be crafted with 5 Prismarine in a Minecart shape, then add 1 diamond in the middle and 2 gold on the top corners. It gives you water breathing 2 and Sea Seeing 2 (night vision but only underwater) forever and also Luck 2.

Goggles. You can put them on or craft them with 2 glass and 1 gold. But they don't do anything. They look cool though, so that's a plus. If they did something it would give you 1 armor bar and night vision.

Ink sacs and black dye. Squids produce ink, and squids live in the water, so getting some ink sacs wold make sense.

Grass. Just Grass, not Grass Blocks, just Grass. Also vines.

And these are the things that you should be able to fish up.

Bonemeal can grow specific flowers by combining it with that flower.

    Posted: 24 Jun 2019 09:07 AM PDT

Bonemeal grows a combination of grass and flowers when used in dirt or grass blocks.

My suggestion is that by confining bonemeal with plant or flower in a crafting table, then that bonemeal will grow that plant or flower.

For example, combining bonemeal with a sunflower in a crafting table will cause to grow mostly sunflowers when used on grass, with some tall or short grass mixed in.

This would work for every flower. Combining bonemeal with ferns or tall grass will cause it to only grow that.

However, combining bonemeal with a Wither Rose will convert any grass or dirt blocks it is used on into coarse dirt.

/give without item argument copies main-hand item

    Posted: 24 Jun 2019 03:43 PM PDT

The /give command's item argument should be optional when used by a logged-in player. If I just use

    /give @p

that should give everyone a copy of whatever is in my main hand. (This could also work with command blocks if an item slot was added.) Performance would be better when giving an item with NBT data, since it wouldn't have to be converted from a string every time.

ETA: This could be done for /fill and /summon too, for items that become blocks or entities when placed.

Add a new dimension that changes everytime you enter it

    Posted: 24 Jun 2019 08:54 AM PDT

I think the portal/shrine(I'm not sure how to get there) should be made of uncraftable blocks and should spawn naturally in the world. By natural I mean in a dungeon much like a stronghold, this new dungeon should only spawn in taiga, ice spikes, ice plains, mesa, and extreme hills.

The other dimension would basically be auto generated around the portal in the other dimension, but while the portal is active that dimension will not change if you leave.

What auto generates should be the interesting part, like nice grassy plains in a cave system until bedrock or a massive maze of a dungeon floating in void or under water or under any other block. There could be a mini boss with an environment the player can use to defeat it or an enemy so strong that the environment does nothing. There could be permanent effects only in that dimension or a condition that if you touch the floor you take damage so there could be a way to permanently fly with an elytra there. These are just some ideas for different property's of world's, they can be taken individually or combined.

Everytime you enter one of these it should feel like an adventure, so maybe in some worlds there could be npc's you can talk to that will direct you in some way.

You can break the portal and move it somewhere else, but there needs to be a ritual thing you do before it activates, that could also determine what kind of dimension will generate. You could learn how to do this by finding other gateways, but maybe you shouldn't know everything about it.

Let's talk about the charged creeper.

    Posted: 24 Jun 2019 03:50 AM PDT

I am pretty sure that from all of the things you saw from this subreddit this one is the easiest one to do, i mean, im pretty sure it alls only needs one line of code maximum.

My idea is this: While there is storms, there should be NATURALLY charged creepers, they are WAY TOO HARD to get in survival without creative without commands without mods without anything you want.

Please for the love of the Aether take one little time of your schedule mojang to just change one thing:

When there is storm, Lightning can spawn a creeper (i suggest 1/10), end)

Well there you go ! One line off code ! One hour maximum ! And you made me happy, thank you for reading !

    Teenage Villager

    Posted: 24 Jun 2019 02:48 PM PDT

Imagine if villagers had a bit of a hostile and rude side to them? villagers have a reputation for being peaceful, but what if some young villagers defaced and destroyed things? well, enter the world of the Teen Villager, lets start with the basics:

    Appearance:

Teen Villagers are really just villager children with acne on their face, nothing much has changed

    Behavior:

Teen villagers, like most teenage children, their' brains are re-wiring for adulthood, causing various mood swings, when angry, their face flushes red and they go into a tantrum of chasing and attacking other villagers, they do hit the villager, but it does not do any damage, they just slap them,

Teenage villagers will also play naughty pranks, like stealing from other villager homes, dressing up like pillagers or zombies, scaring the villagers, but the golem will not attack illager or zombie-costumed teen villagers, because they know it's them in disguise

Their main part is their Vandalism, they will break blocks of villager houses and replace them with dirt, sand, or wool, angering villagers, if you put a painting near them, they will deface it,

    examples of teen villager defacing:

Wanderer: the man in the panting will be given a curly mustache and glasses

Sunset painting: a green, godzilla-like monster will be seen walking through the mountains

Bust: The Marcus Aurelius bust will be given a nose ring and an eyepatch

any more ideas for them? put them in the comments!

They should add a new dimension.

    Posted: 24 Jun 2019 12:53 PM PDT

But one that's not super dangerous. Just slightly more than the over world. I'm kind of tired of the incredibly scary dimensions where you are constantly threatened with death. There could be another boss too. Maybe like one that's above the over world. I read one about pigs that is a little extreme but I think a new dimension is overdue. We've been stuck with the 3 for years. It would be freaking awesome.

If food is left to cook for too long on a campfire, it should burn

    Posted: 24 Jun 2019 12:49 PM PDT

If you leave something, say, a porkchop, cooking on a campfire for too long after it has been cooked, it should burn. The burnt food would still be edible, but only give a fraction of the hunger points.

Chickens and parrots should nibble bread

    Posted: 24 Jun 2019 12:44 PM PDT

Bread should lure chickens/parrots. It s hould also, when right clicked on a chicken/parrot, change it's durability (with 3 to 4 uses). After you've fed it, if you want to eat it, You can! But it could cause hunger or nausea. This would add variety to the game's birds because all Minecraft birds thus far eat seeds. Pigs eat three different crops. So why can't chickens and parrots at least eat two?

    Dipper

    Posted: 24 Jun 2019 08:24 AM PDT

A fishing pole attached to an axle. Functions similarly to a crane.

Inspired by the Drinking Bird https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drinking_bird

It has two states, which can switched via alt-clicking or redstone pulse.

State 0 - Idle State - The fishing pole is in 45 degree position, float reeled in. Default state.

State 1 - Fishing State - The fishing pole dips down by 90 degrees, then releases the float. This state maintained by holding down alt-click or giving the Dipper a constant redstone pulse.

State 2 - Limbo State - The state that the Dipper enters when State 1 conditions are cancelled. The float is stuck in whatever position it was in State 1. State 2 can be exited if State 1 conditions are met.

During State 1, the float goes down 1 block per 0.5 second, for 15 blocks. It will stop prematurely if it hits water, a block, or an entity.

Then, it will reel up for the same amount of time, unlike a fishing rod in hand, subsequently returning to State 0.

Entities that are caught will take fishing hook damage. They are stuck on the hook until struck or pushed.

Blocks cannot be caught. When the float hits one, the float will stop until the Dipper thinks it has reached the 15 block point. The float will go back up when the Dipper's measurements are caught up with the float's actual position.

    Fish can be caught. However:

    • The Dipper cannot have enchantments.
    • Can only catch fish in mob form.
    • Slower catching speed.
    • Non-automatic, in other words, the Dipper doesn't know when a fish bites.

Items tossed at the Dipper will be used as the "bait" on the hook. Affects mob behavior, depending on the item.

    • Cows react to wheat.
    • Villagers react to emeralds.
    • In water, no bait will attract salmon and cod.
    • Paintings used as bait will randomly show a picture of an illager or a villager. This can fool real villagers and illagers.

A redstone pulse can change the state of the Dipper to State 1. When the pulse stops, the float stops moving.

Comparators can also measure the position of the float relative to the Dipper block and proportionally output a signal.
