Be able to buy bamboo from wandering traders

Sometimes you have to travel 7000 blocks for bamboo but it seems like something that a wandering trader could sell to you.

Introducing the Badlands Temple (including a complete design, mobs, loot, and plenty extras!)

    Posted: 24 Jun 2021 09:05 PM PDT

Introducing the Badlands Temple (including a complete design, mobs, loot, and plenty extras!)

Something new to find in Badlands

Currently there's just fancy mine-shafts, red sand, terracotta, and more gold everywhere. This has been requested in various ways for quite some time, but now I have a fleshed out version of what it could be!

    Entering the Temple:

The tall entrance welcomes you in

It can be partly buried or cut into the landscape.

It should be pretty noticeable from the right angles, and will always tower above the sandy terrain, probably not spawning on the tops of badland hills. I kept the outside design mainly simple, I think it looks really good sunk into the side of the hill. I also made the roof look a little fortified, for whatever lore you might think of.

    Inside the Temple:

There's two small wing rooms with ladders up, and a main room.

Once inside you'll find 3 small rooms and a main hall, all in all 3 chests and 4 blocks of gold. There's also likely to be clay pots, perhaps filled with a few treasures if you break them, or maybe with collectible designs. You will also encounter the "Terracotta Harbinger", a new golem like mob which will roam the temple, staying within bounds as much as possible (more details further on in the post!).

The main hall. Contains 2 blocks of gold, a special chest of loot, and fire on both sides infinitely burning. (pro tip, you can use magma blocks for this effect)

If you look closely you may notice that the chest in the main hall is trapped. What will happen? Who knows, I kinda wanted to do something unique but I'm not sure what it could be aside from TNT

Both wings have 1 block of gold and a simple chest of temple loot and some flower pots.

    Secrets:

You'll probably discover the secret room when you mine the block of gold in the floor, look out!

The floor of the main hall, and a block of pure gold.

    Be careful, don't

A possible design for the hidden lower room

    Loot:

    (examples, could be changed)

Normal chest (3-5 draws) Weight (draw rarity) Amount (per draw)
    Red Sandstone 5/30 4-12
    Terracotta 5/30 5-9
    Dead bush 5/30 3-5
    String 4/30 2-5
    Bones 4/30 1-3
    Rotten flesh 4/30 2-5
    Gold ingot 3/30 1-5

In addition to a Whirlwind Gourd [New, details further down] in the main hall chest, the treasure chests give the following loot:

Treasure chest (3-4 draws) Weight Amount
    Gold ingot 20/71 3-7
    Copper ingot 10/71 3-9
    Iron ingot 10/71 1-4
    Diamond 8/71 1-2
    Enchanted book [random] 12/71 1
    Golden Armor [random] 5/71 1-2
    Golden Apple 5/71 1
    Enchanted Apple 1/71 1

    Terracotta pots!

There could be some pots around the structure with a few bits of loot in them, or maybe just collectible designs exclusive to the Badlands Temple. All in all these pots would be a solid addition to making this structure amazing!

Possible look based on Minecon Live 2020

    New mob: The "Terracotta Harbinger"

You'll find a few of these lurking in the temple, and they are neutral to curious adventures. However, anyone who tries to damage the temple or steal the loot will find these surprisingly fast and towering creatures right behind you. These mobs tower at around 3 1/2 blocks tall, but are meant to be rather slim.Don't let size fool you though, they don't have a lot of HP for how big they are (60HP), but have very extended "invincibility frames" between heavy damage as they crack. At 2/3rds HP one of the side heads breaks, and the second one at 1/3rd, each time the creature will deal more damage.Be careful of their speed and long reach, but once you've beaten them, the temple loot is yours. As an easter egg, or added challenge, players who have beaten a wither, and haven't died since then, will agro the Terracotta Harbinger on sight!

Whirlwind Gourd: (a new treasure item)

A simple item (no texture but imagine it's like an odd shaped vase with a swirl around it), which can be used to release a gust of wind that will propel you and anything in your direct vicinity up into the air. The longer you use the item the higher you go, up to around 24-32 blocks high. And it will slowly recharge, about 1 full minute before it can be used again I'd say is fair (cooldown would be a blue bar like bundles, and it wouldn't have durability). Multiple could be used at the same time to go higher or not have to wait since the recharge is per item.

    TL;DR:

A new temple for badlands with fun traps, new mobs and challenges, a good haul of loot. There's 2 side rooms, a main room and a hidden lower room. It's fairly uncommon, probably appears a little more than mineshafts in badlands. The Terracotta Harbinger is a tall new mob with three strange heads that defends the temple if you try to break it or steal the loot. The Whirlwind Gourd is a new item found in the main chest of the temple as unique loot, which allows the player to propel themselves and anything nearby into the air!

if you put a renamed name tag in a dispenser and connect it to some sort of redstone it should rename the mob

with this you can make mob farms and with this feature added you can make it so the mobs dont despawn

    Wandering Traders Gossiping to Villagers

    Posted: 25 Jun 2021 12:43 PM PDT

People hate wandering traders because they sell mostly useless stuff. This needs to be improved. Wandering traders should give local villagers positive gossip about the player the more the player trades with them. The gossip won't last very long, but it would be a major discount from the local villagers. That way, the trader will be a welcome sight, because it is an easy way of getting discounts.

If the trader is killed after giving gossip, the local villagers will give you bad prices. This is to encourage the player to use boats or other strategies to get the leads instead of killing.

Lapis should be more common in deserts like how gold is more common in badlands

    Posted: 25 Jun 2021 04:47 PM PDT

This would be a good idea because in the real world, lapis is associated with ancient Egyptians who lived in the desert and used lapis as they believed it had magical properties.

This would add more strategy to mining, because it would give players another reason to go to the desert beyond mining for sand. I feel like it is good for different biomes to have some sort of ore variance, also kind of like how emeralds are only found in mountains.

This would also be more convenient for players who wanted to make a big build out of lapis blocks, compared to traditional mining or trading with villagers.

    More Paintings in Minecraft!

    More Paintings in Minecraft!

As of right now, paintings and music disks feel rather neglected - left to the wayside, if you will. We just got a new music disk in 1.16 - hooray! But the last time we got a painting was in 1.4, back in 2012. I'd love to see new paintings reflecting the themes of recent updates, and I even mocked up a few just as a proof of concept.

These paintings are all entirely OC - all using photos I have taken as a baseline, and then a few are edited a bit beyond just shrinking down the photo

    Anyway, here goes:

Here is a lionfish I photographed. This is to celebrate 1.13

This fish is also for 1.13

    A jellyfish!

Here is a gator which I put to an oceanic background for 1.13

This is a monkey, for 1.2.4 which never got a jungle-themed painting!

These here are flowers, in honor of both 1.7 and 1.15

This here is a mountain range in honor of the upcoming 1.18 update

This is a beach in honor of Beta 1.8 which replaced gravel beaches with sand ones. It can also represent 1.13 since this beach is close to a turtle nesting site IRL (Playa Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica)

Lastly, here is a bastion in the Nether, for 1.16. IRL this is actually Augustus' palace in Rome, but I've obviously put my lackluster editing skills to the test to improve upon it.

Obviously, these are just possible additions. In reality, I'd just like to see new paintings in general, and they don't necessarily have to fit the theme of recent updates, though that would be nice. A palace or a castle would still be neat!

Crafting calcite and making it renewable

    Posted: 25 Jun 2021 01:12 AM PDT

Considering how calcite is a pure calcium carbonate mineral, I believe that smelting bone blocks should create calcite. This would not only make it a renewable block, but also make it much easier to get large quantities of it. Let me know what you guys think.

    Gold birch forests.

    Posted: 25 Jun 2021 07:14 AM PDT

Birch forest variants with gold leaves. These leaves are their own block, so you can take them and use them anywhere without depending on the biome. I think this can just add some variety.

    Altitude variable rivers

    Posted: 25 Jun 2021 10:44 AM PDT

Currently rivers only flow at sea level, so they are basicilly just long thin oceans. I think it would be better if rivers began from lakes that are above sea level, and then they flow down to the ocean. It would add more water at higher altitudes and make river systems more realistic.

Render Distance should be temporarily increased while zoomed in with a spyglass

    Posted: 25 Jun 2021 04:57 PM PDT

Title. When you zoom in, your field of vision gets greatly reduced, and thus the game loads less chunks. Why not use this extra memory to load the chunks the players may actually want to look at?

Currently, it's very easy to see the edge of the loaded chunks with a spyglass, which look very ugly. This will fix that problem as well.

    Chainlead and fence attachment

    Posted: 25 Jun 2021 09:13 AM PDT

Chainlead is a new leash that is made of chains. It is crafted like a lead, but instead of string its chains. You can attaching it to mobs. If you attached the chainlead can be attached to lightning rods, which zap mobs when lightning hits the lightning rod. Chainlead is twice as long as normal lead and doesn't break when it's stretched to far.

Fence Attachment: add it so you can attach leads and chainleads to fences and walls without having an entity attached to it. And you can attached leads to one fence to another.

    Make Calcite craftable

    Posted: 25 Jun 2021 12:39 PM PDT

Calcite is a very nice looking and hard to obtain block. It would be really nice to be able to craft it. My suggestion is 2 amethyst shards and 2 diorite = 2 calcite. It makes a lot of sense because of how similar diorite and calcite are, with calcite also being amethyst-themed. Unless it's meant to be a rare block?

Parrots and chickens ‘eating’ seeds animation.

    Posted: 25 Jun 2021 10:05 AM PDT

Parrots and chickens should, when near any grass or fern variety, should have an animation similar to sheep where they 'eat' seeds off the plant. When the animation is complete, pixels similar to breaking the grass will fall onto the ground around the plant.

    Carpet and Moss carpet relationship

    Posted: 25 Jun 2021 04:52 AM PDT

My idea is that you could water-log carpet (of any variant/colour), it would be found naturally spawning in shipwrecks, but when a carpet block were to be waterlogged for a certain period of time (2-5 Minecraft days), it would convert to a moss carpet block. I think that this would add a nice touch to the game, and make the world feel more alive and constantly changing. This feature would be added alongside a new command that would let players decide if they want their carpet to become moss carpet or not.

    simplified NBT editing/obtaining data

    Posted: 25 Jun 2021 08:10 AM PDT

F3+H allows to see advanced tooltips, but it only says the item ID (for example minecraft:stone) and the amount of NBT tags (NBT: 2 tag(s))

maybe shift+F3+H could show those NBT tags, not just say how many of them are there

in terms of mob data, i think hitting a mob with debug stick could run "/data get entity" command, that would simplify getting that data since selecting moving mobs is really hard

maybe even add the NBT editor block or stick (creative mode only), those would just be an easy way to edit item/mob parameters

imo the hardest thing in editing NBT is memorizing what letters have to be capital, which brackets (or "...") should you use, or what data types do you have to use (for example 10s, 0.085f, or just 1 without any letters), using commands doesn't suggest any NBT tags at all, being able to get that data much easier would help with that

    Posted: 24 Jun 2021 08:00 PM PDT

Protecting aura would be an enchantment that blocks all potion effects while dealing damage to the armour. The damage dealt would be 4% of the total health of the armour and for each piece of armour enchanted with protecting aura the damage dealt would go down.

    Portal velocity

    Posted: 25 Jun 2021 03:15 PM PDT

    I don't know how hard it would be to implement, but I was thinking earlier about trying to make a london-underground like minecart build in the nether, and I got to thinking how much it'd suck by having folks manually go through nether portals first and do that swirly, when I had this idea;

Depending on how fast you hit a nether portal you'll get teleported instantly (eg creative nod, so you still have to deal with load times), and once in the nether you keep the same velocity you had going in.

It could lead to some fun puzzle scenarios for side ways portals which can launch you into the air, or a separate people launcher for people with Elytras.

Could be a simple, useful and fun addition to the game.

    Abandoned Cave Towers

    Abandoned Cave Towers

Hello! I would like to see some more structures in the new caves. Perhaps in larger caverns, we could see the generation of the occasional watch tower?
Here's my idea on how it could be designed:

    https://preview.redd.it/4fdjeop2ib771.png?width=2560&format=png&auto=webp&s=c895cab029a2a786184613c73328d4630b0d4b2f

I would definitely like to see more structures in parts of the Minecraft world, as even after all these years it sometimes still feels barren.

Mushroom Jungles - a new rare biome

    Posted: 24 Jun 2021 10:54 PM PDT

Mushroom Jungles - a new rare biome

Hey all! I came up with what I believe to be an awesome biome idea while I was messing around in creative mode. I found a mushroom island and started building a Tropicraft-inspired jungle and some mountains which turned out (in my opinion) beautifully. I blended it with the biome I started with and ended up with a unique-looking jungle with large, pretty trees and mushrooms strewn throughout. I would love to see some variation of this as a rare alternative of a mushroom island. I think mushroom islands, while super cool the first time they're discovered, can be a little boring after several encounters. This post seeks to revitalize and reimagine them.

    https://preview.redd.it/4m3fufw2nc771.png?width=2560&format=png&auto=webp&s=392064a8bce6931946b336f3b9a8a3a8057d2c52

The main trees would be Mahogany, and the planks would be a deep red - not the orange of acacia or the light red of jungle wood.

Alternatively, the wood could just be stripped dark oak, as I used here. It looks great.

Perhaps when Mojang adds the palm trees they promised, they can add them to the shores of this biome, too.

This biome would have a heavy canopy which would blot out the sun, just like real-life new world jungles. Under the canopy, gigantic and large mushrooms (not to be confused with giant mushrooms, the current big mushrooms in vanilla Minecraft which are in between these other two in size) would grow, like so:

These gigantic mushrooms would glow dimly. Why? It looks cool. Next to it are two large mushrooms.

This biome would have several layers of flora, from underbrush:

The underbrush would consist of small conifer-like plants along the sunlit edges, and oak-leaved plants in the darker interior

    To the understory:

The understory contains both jungle trees and wispy oak trees

    To the canopy:

Notice that, in this shot, I used podzol instead of grass. Maybe podzol in the interior and grass along the edges?

All these layers come together to make what I believe to be a majestic and aesthetic biome. It looks cool and it is cool. Tell me what you all think!
