[Brainstorm] Top Monthly Suggestions for August 2021! This Month's Theme is "The Skies"!

Your monthly reminder that yes, there are suggestions that do get over 200 karma from the Minecraft Community. Truly astounding, isn't it?

In addition to some MCS news, this post showcases all of the suggestions from the past month that have achieved beyond 200 karma, as well as the 10 closest stragglers that were just shy of making the mark.

    https://preview.redd.it/pbgpibnsqdl71.png?width=1500&format=png&auto=webp&s=2d40bb5706c51e80e87d80ce7e5eafb1224afc5d

Salvete! The final third of 2021 begins!

Aside from the usual affairs of the TMS report, we have some rule changes for the one and only u/ThatOneKirbyMain2568 to talk about! Given that, let's head to the Special News section.

    https://preview.redd.it/mn9t4kfqrdl71.png?width=1500&format=png&auto=webp&s=1fd5dad47776e068fbe91b8b95545fd114ca0e78

    New Rules!

A while ago, we redid our rules. The 10 old rules have been amended to 12, with some reformatting and reordering. You can read more about it in this post.

The main change was moving things from the Miscellaneous Removal Reasons list (which was found in the FPS list) to our main rules. They fit more there, and people are much less likely to ignore them.

    https://preview.redd.it/xofmrxlrrdl71.png?width=1500&format=png&auto=webp&s=6a67a73b2a60cd36a21b0af9b94a0ab55e35fe74

    Back to your scheduled report.

This month, we have 128 suggestions that got 200+ karma, a bit more than July. Take a look at these graphs:

There aren't near as many posts with around or above 2000 karma. July's max was the 2600s, while this month only reached to the 2000s.

Mobs and Blocks & Items are still standing strong, though Structures and General have taken quite the hit since last time. There are a lot more Redstone posts with over 200 karma, which is interesting, and we have more top suggestions with the Monthly Theme flair.

    https://preview.redd.it/daiybrrsrdl71.png?width=1500&format=png&auto=webp&s=c885ea14324a7aae390bab0a3b0db174545b0965

September 2021's theme is "The Skies"!

Minecraft's skies are pretty empty, and this month's theme is all about giving 'em content! No aether please.

Here are some potential ideas to consider:

    • Currently, the sky is devoid of fauna, leaving it feeling barren, desolate, and static. A few creatures could do a lot to liven up the place. What mobs would you add to the sky? Would they simply be there for atmosphere, or would they have a reward for players in some way?
    • Aside from mountain peaks, there aren't really any places to go to above the clouds. A common idea to remedy this is floating islands, though suggestions for them are often vague or ill executed. What's your unique take on floating islands? Try your best to your execution from those of others, perhaps with unique biomes and creatures.
    • The night sky is near the same throughout the player's playthrough, with the only change being shifts in moon phase. What would you add to the night sky to add more variety and make it more interesting to look at? Constellations? Special moon events? Something more fantasy-driven?

As stated before, we removed the MRR list and put the stuff that was there in the rules.

Regarding the FPS list, we recently made a new addition:

[Blocks] Icicles, or an ice variant of dripstone

Additionally, we moved the following from the Rejected list to the FPS list due to not having sources:

[Blocks] Colored light, using colored lamps, stained glass, etc.

[Blocks] Using Silk Touch on a spawner picks it up

[Utility] Obtaining white dye from white flowers (e.g. white tulips, etc.) instead of light gray dye

[Mobs & Mob Behaviors] Dragon taming

[Mobs & Mob Behaviors] Changing witch texture/skin color to be more in line with illagers

As a reminder, here are the links to the FPS, Rejected, and Implemented lists.

Finally, you can see some suggestions that have actually been implemented on the Successful Suggestions Wiki Page! Maybe one of these will make it on there someday! If you have a suggestion that actually has been implemented in some form or another, please let us know so that we can update the list. Thanks!

Here's to another month of great suggestions! Valete!

Remove Pixel Paradise from the featured servers list

    Posted: 05 Sep 2021 01:23 AM PDT

Pixel Paradise is a recently added featured server on Bedrock Edition created by InPvP, and right as you join, there are several reasons this server should be removed completely.

    1. Out of 5 games, only 3 are free. Considering the other servers like Mineplex, CubeCraft, Galaxite etc, 3 free games are not enough.
    2. Even if you paid for the two extra games, you wouldn't get a great experience. One of the paid games is a prison server, and the other one is skyblock but on an island.
    3. The lag on this server is terrible. Compared to the rest of the servers, it is 5 times worse. You can just see every Steve skinned player teleport around because of how bad the ping here is. Why pay for something so laggy?
    4. The server probably breaks Minecraft's EULA. A rule within the EULA is that you're not allowed to sell and distribute something that was made by Mojang. Remember the two paid games? On the prison game, you can pay to use different pickaxes. ONCE. On the skyblock island game, you can pay to make automatic resource generators. They are distributing and making money out of non-cosmetic items, and the fact that this server was accepted is just ridiculous.

TLDR; 40% of the 5 games are paid. The experience is cheap and laggy. The server is distributing non-cosmetic items. The server is a complete cashgrab just living off of hype, hoping that kids will beg their moms for their credit card to buy stupid one time use items for $10+ dollars each.

    Tamed Cats should attack phantoms.

    Posted: 05 Sep 2021 10:17 AM PDT

In case you don't know, cats actually audibly hiss at phantoms when they come near. They also sometimes bring you a phantom membrane (3.22% chance) as a morning gift. The fact that they bring you a phantom membrane implies that they killed a phantom to get it, but we never see it in action. I think we should. This would make cats more useful, and give them a use other than just sitting in front of your house eternally to scare away creepers. I'm envisioning the cat having an attack animation similar to this. I know cats pretty much already prevent phantoms from attacking you, but I think this would just be cooler. It would also be more useful if you're looking for Phantom Membranes.

    New types of clouds

    Posted: 05 Sep 2021 12:09 PM PDT

I know this may sound boring, but i think it would be cool if they made different shaped clouds instead of just squares. like, cirrocumulus clouds.

    Sea level coordinates

    Posted: 05 Sep 2021 09:06 AM PDT

So with new up coming caves and cliffs pt.2 aka (1.19). I think with new world height changes should also include a revised coordinate system. So the current Y axis level 0 is where the old world height level zero is which made sense back then but doesn't any more because the bedrock is no longer there. So I think level 0 on the Y axis coordinates should be at sea level rather then a random point deep under ground. I feel as this would make things a bit easier for navigating and also just make it easier for new players to understand.

Snoring and letter Z particles when sleeping

    Posted: 05 Sep 2021 04:00 AM PDT

When a Player, pet or a Villager is asleep, they have their eyes closed, and they have particles that are a letter Z come out of them, slowly rising for a few seconds before popping away. Adult villagers and certain pets like dogs may have a chance to get a special trait when bred, which makes the, snore while sleeping. Cats can get the snore trait, but this is rare, about a 5% chance per cat that is bred. The chance is different depending on the animal bred, but for Villagers, it is random. Players cannot snore.

    Mountain Blueberries and Frost Resistance

    Posted: 05 Sep 2021 11:55 AM PDT

In the meadows, there should be a special kind of berry: The blueberry. You can eat it by itself. You can make it into blueberry jam, which when crafted with bread, makes the bread heal more and saturate as much as a steak. Instead of just killing cows, you would actually have to find blueberries and grow wheat. You could also make blueberry pie. Minecraft does need more pies. You could also brew the blueberry into a potion of frost resistance. Frost resistance 1 would just prevent you from freezing, while frost resistance 2 would allow you to melt ice and snow just by being near it. You could also feed them to bees and make bees faster and stronger. It would also make bees pollinate more. Bees will follow you if you have them in your hand.

Nether wart blocks and warped wart blocks should decay when the tree they are attached to is broken

    Posted: 05 Sep 2021 10:42 AM PDT

This would make fully chopping down the nether fungi a lot more convenient and easy

Treehouse villages in Tiaga (redwood big forest biome sorry)

    Posted: 05 Sep 2021 02:25 PM PDT

Just like a normal village but in the big trees of either the redwoods like one or the jungle. Could have bridges going from tree to tree and different houses.

    Slime biome

    Posted: 05 Sep 2021 09:38 AM PDT

In this caves and cliffs update they should add another Biome to the caves. A new cave biome called Slime Caves should spawn in the slime chunks since that the only way to find slime chunks is the boring brench mining underground or using a website. The cave should have an high slime spawn rate and other slime plants/blocks

    Improved turtle helmets

    Posted: 05 Sep 2021 01:46 PM PDT

At the current moment turtle helmets are a very niche item to have. They are also difficult and time consuming to produce. The value that you currently get out of one is not enough for the time that you go through trying to get it (for most people).

I propose an improvement to the turtle helmets so that they would become more useful. Turtle helmets should reduce damage from falling objects such as dripstone and anvils and should reduce the speed of suffocation and drowning damage.

This change would improve them in the oceans along with underground use. I know this is still for very niche uses but at the moment the turtle helmet is bad and any improvements would be good.

    Or

If Mojang only wants turtle helmets to be good for water then the turtle helmets should give 20 seconds of water breathing and give you night vision when under water. Plus it should also include the reduced drowning speed. It could also give you extra speed when under water.

If either of these still don't feel like enough then they should both be added. However, the turtle helmet should not become very powerful. It should not be more powerful than netherite and should probably be slightly worse than diamond. Therefore the player can choose if they want to keep diamond or switch to turtle to have those niche uses.

Any suggestions or feedback can be left in a comment

Desert biomes should have sandstorms during rain

    Beavers!

    Posted: 05 Sep 2021 04:06 AM PDT

A mob that will spawn at rivers that pass through taigas.

They will debark wooden logs of nearby trees, similar to how sheep eat grass.

They will pick up any dropped wooden block, store it in their "inventory" and place the block on any flowing water to stop it from flowing.

Wandering traders should sell a potion.

    Posted: 05 Sep 2021 03:31 AM PDT

This would seriously make them more valuable.

They only ever trade potions with level 1 and a short duration, they also only sell one random potion type at a time. (A drinkable one)

This wouldn't even come close to rivaling the brewing stand, as it doesn't give the player stronger/longer potions and gives the player very limited options.

But it still allows the player to get potions before going to the nether, which would make wandering traders very useful for early to mid game players.

    Updated cobbled deepslate mob spawners

    Posted: 05 Sep 2021 08:02 AM PDT

Since there hasn't been any say on updated dungeons it's safe to assume they'll be staying the same. A tiny and little detail they can add is to add an alternate dungeon. Under y=0 the dungeons should use cobbled deepslate. There really isn't much stone that low, so it doesn't make sense to have the dungeons out of cobble.

It would be a refreshing get simple change to such an old feature.

PLEASE add a scroll feature to bundles

    Posted: 04 Sep 2021 05:40 PM PDT

As it currently stands, bundles are annoying and time-consuming to use. The fact that you can only take out the last item you put in makes inventory management even WORSE than before when using bundles. The simple solution to this is to add a feature where when hovering over a bundle, using the scroll wheel would switch through the items inside the bundle, allowing you to pick which item to take out.

The reason why we need an item like bundles in the first place is that the Minecraft inventory has stayed the exact same size since it began. But the amount of items in the game has increased massively. There should be no "too op" when it comes to something like inventory management.

So, why is gunpowder still GUNpowder?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2021 04:49 PM PDT

We all know Mojang's stance on guns so why is this left in? Just because its been around for a while? Blackpowder is ambiguous enough and more fitting with the themes of the game while not being so weirdly conflicting with their other values, right?
Some other explosive or creeper related material name would be good too.

    Invisible Squid

    Posted: 05 Sep 2021 12:39 PM PDT

Invisible squids are another variation of squids that can be found in deep cold and frozen oceans. They're transparent everywhere except for the eyes and organs, and they have a white glass-like skin texture.

They drop invisible ink sacks, which can be used to make invisible item frames, which also have a glass-like texture, making it hard to see unless you have something in the item frame.

The invisible ink sacks can also be used on leather armor in a crafting table to make the armor mostly invisible, even if it has enchantments on it.

Desert Dunes similarly shaped to the new stony peak biome

    Posted: 05 Sep 2021 04:08 PM PDT

Super simple suggestion. This could either accompany the sort of rocky buttes we have, replace them, or even have their own "Desert Dune" Biome. If the last option is gone with, it would also help to make deserts somewhat flatter so the dune seas stand out more.

In design I feel linear dune shapes would be the most fitting. Long parallel dune chains similar to these ones in Oman.

Sweeping attacks should hit mobs even when you click right next to them.

    Posted: 05 Sep 2021 09:22 AM PDT

Currently, the sweep from a sword only applies if you're aiming directly at a mob, even though the swinging motion of your sword implies that the vertical position of your crosshair doesn't matter as much, since your sword would hit a mob next to your crosshair anyway.

So I suggest that the sweeping attack of your sword doesn't require for you to be aiming directly at a mob in order to damage the mobs within the "sweep area"

To demonstrate why this would make sense:

If a player has two zombies right in front of them, and the zombies are close enough together that hitting one of them would make it so the other one gets hit by sweeping edge, then aiming right between them should also do the trick.

Those are just my thoughts, let me know what you think.

    Pitcher Plants in Lush Caves

    Posted: 05 Sep 2021 02:20 PM PDT

They could spawn in Lush caves and be buried with only their top showing. Their top would be a drip leaf and if you stood on it too long you fall inside. Once inside you get poisoned. You can break it but it is very slow without a hoe. You can't pick it up without silk touch. You can feed it a glow berry to make it spit out whatever is inside (including you). Also, phantoms are attracted to it but do not drop membranes when killed by it.
